Following the seasonal theme from last time (autumn leaves)… I now have a winter-themed song to share from my time in Japan. Sound effects for the atmosphere include people talking in the streets, some wind, and other various sounds that I recorded in Shirakawa-go.
I stayed in the key of D for this piece, and used my bass guitar as a drone by utilizing my primary reverb effect, Valhalla Shimmer. I set the reverb’s dry/wet parameter to 100% so only the reverb from the strings is heard, not the initial plucks.
My Volca FM synthesizer backed up the soundscape and bass drone, prepping the song for the lead guitar. This time, I used my electric guitar rather than acoustic (standard tuning) and had fun looping guitar sections while adding new lead elements.
By the end of the song, three guitar parts are playing simultaneously, and I also thought it would be fitting to add backing vocals towards the end, as well. Aware of where my strengths lie (not vocals) I spent some time pitch correcting my voice and using Valhalla Shimmer on my vocal track in almost the same way as the bass guitar, but the dry/wet setting seemed about right at 93% rather than 100% wet (reverb only).
That’s about it for this one. I hope you enjoy it.
