Can't Add My Youtube Link To My Profile

In "Edit My Profile", I paste my youtube web address into the youtube bar, (everything except ""), then click save. When I then click on the youtube icon on my profile page, it takes me to "Channel not found" on the youtube website. I've tried entering the entire address, I turned it into a Tiny URL, I tried posting it in the website bar but I can't get the link to work. Frustrated!

    Enter your user name only

  • @julieann Jan 18

    Okay, will try that

  • @julieann Jan 20

Entering my user name only didn't work๐Ÿ˜•

  • @pipewrench67  Jan 20

Hmm I checked my link and it works and all I have in there is my you tube user name.

  • @metalfoot  Jan 20

Might have figured it out @julieann ... check your wall?

  • @pipewrench67  Jan 20

    Try removing spaces, maybe.

  • @pipewrench67  Jan 20

Ok nevermind mine isn't working either now. @ericdistad @jendistad any ideas?

  • @downburst  Jan 20

My URL looks like . They seem to use /channel/ instead of /user/. Maybe they changed their format?

  • @pipewrench67  Jan 20

@downburst can you get it to work from the link button on your profile?

  • @downburst  Jan 20

@pipewrench67 no. The button builds in the assumption that Youtube URLs have the format but they don't, as far as I can see.

  • @jendistad  Jan 20

Yeah, @downburst seems to be right about the /user/ vs /channel/ dilemma. I suspect that @ericdistad or @burrsettles will need to give this a look in. Have some people successfully used the youtube link on their page?

In the meantime, you should be able to add the link into the short bio section of your profile (instead of the "Social Links" section of your profile).

  • @ianuarius  Jan 20

    @jendistad Works for me.

  • @downburst  Jan 20

/user/ is for legacy custom URLs. They don't create them anymore, and make them hard to find. Nowadays (since several years back) users get /channel/ URLs as the default. You can also get a custom URL that uses /c/, but only if you meet certain conditions.

  • @burrsettles  Jan 21

Huh. OK, I don't use youtube much. But apparently my account is old enough that I've been "grandfathered" in to the legacy username deal.

I'll look into this, but if it's non-obvious and too involved, we may simply disable youtube links on profiles for this year...

  • @pipewrench67  Jan 22

@burrsettles not a huge deal for me, I may or may not post something via u tube , linking by alternate means isn't that difficult.

  • @burrsettles  Jan 22

@julieann @pipewrench67 i ended up disabling youtube profile links, since it would take more time than we have to figure out how to make things forward/backward compatible....

however, you should still be able to post fawm song demos here via youtube and they will embed on fawm pages, etc. it's just that your profile pages here won't include links to your youtube profiles/channels.

Oh okay thanks for letting me know!๐Ÿ˜š
