Inverted Melody anyone?

I have a note in my Trello cards of FAWM 2020 song ideas to give this a try

This reminds me of something. Take the chords from a known song, or song you’ve written, then put them backwards. But with a completely new groove.

    Pretty good advice, thanks!

I just watched a video on this the other day... I forget the piece of music, but it was beautiful.

I think the Rachmaninov example in the YouTube video is ace. It has a Satie-esque mellow feeling that just makes me think of impressionist paintings; Seurat in particular.

Tommasi is a great teacher, been on my back burner to try out.

  • @scottlake Jan 16

Here is an article on how to do this in midi.

@scottlake that is fascinating. I would love to incorporate this, but i'm not sure if I will for FAWM. If you use the inverse, does it change the key to the point to where you cannot sensibly use it within one song (I know I can do whatever you want) ? I sometimes inverse rhythms, but not melodies or progressions. Could be cool for a series of songs....

Ha! I've heard both the Paganini and the Rachmaninov but never heard or realized the clever connection and the story there. I might try this.

    Hmmm....interest peaked.
