The It's Always 8:00 pm Somewhere Skirmish

It IS always 8:00 pm somewhere right?

So I though we could do a little bit of time travel together and do a Skirmish at 8:00 pm today wherever you are. For me that is GMT Tuesday 5th Feb but for some it is already Wednesday. 😀

The usual rules apply, in that you make your own, the non-existent FAWM Police will ensure that the non-rules are adhered to. Basically it's a bit of fun so enjoy or not. 😀

TITLE/PROMPT/THEME: "TIME" Since this "skirmish" somehow transcends time I thought it to be the most appropriate theme.

Song tags: TIME, skirmish, songskirmish, feast

WHAT: We'll have a 1 hour song skirmish and it will go something like this:

.1) All participants write, record and post a song within an hour. Lyrics-only posts are also absolutely fine. And if you take longer than an hour or start late, PLEASE post anyway. If you start late, again no problem...go for it and post in an hour!

    2) Be sure and tag your song and also post a link to it in this thread.

    3) If you participate, please listen to (or read) and comment on the songs of all the other skirmish participants!

Haven't done a skirmish for a while, but this sounds like fun, I'm tempted.

  • @mishykatz  Feb 5

Love your idea! I may try this if I don't get dragged into other stuff!

  • @calumcarlyle  Feb 5

Technically it's only 8pm for a split second every hour or so, though I think that happens more than 24 times a day since some local times are a half hour or even a quarter hour out from their geographical timezones.

It would be interesting to know how many times 8pm does actually come round each day across the whole world, especially if that information came in the form of a newly written song...

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 5

Absolutely right but it was too complicated to take all 38 time zones into account. 😀
Maybe I should have called it "The When it's 8:00 pm in your house skirmish" . 😀

  • @francessmith  Feb 5

The thing I rely on for time, when I'm not using the internet, is about 6 minutes slow. I have corrected it a few times but it slips back into bad habits.

Do I have to be bound by the rigidity of some atomic clock somewhere, when deciding if it's 8 pm in my home?

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 5

The big bang theory, ok only a theory, suggests that happened 14 billion years ago so I doubt if six earth minutes means much. Of course 8:00 pm in Frances' house happens six minutes later than in mine. 😀

  • @auditasum Feb 5

I might try to do this later.

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 5

Even if this is the only entry I'm happy, I wrote a song!

  • @timfatchen  Feb 5

That's now! I'm in! can I do this while feeding the bears, I wonder...

  • @timfatchen  Feb 5

And done. And the bears are fed too.

  • @vgenfan Feb 6

I'm in....scared but doing it anyway. I'm a newbie FAWMER and this will be my first SKIRMISH!

  • @janeg  Feb 6

    Here's something totally silly

  • @takc Feb 6

This is my first skirmish song, and I'm really quite pleased with how it turned out! I did go a little bit over though. This song was written in 50 minutes and then it took about 25 minutes to get it recorded. I liked it enough that I thought it merited a take with minimal flubs.

  • @porrectus  Feb 6

Accidental skirmish, started at 7:30 done 8:15. And the burgers were eaten. Went to upload and saw this post, looking forward to listening to the others.

    Time’s Running Out
    Time To Begin
    Time’s running out
    Time to begin
Time she’s a friend of mine
    She makes no excuses
Time she’s a very fine wine
    gets my internal juices
flowing - Time she’s got no patience
She just moves on without you
And when it comes to wastin’
    I promise I really don’t want to
    Time she’s a trickster sometimes
You might get caught in her spell
Time takes some things we love
And throws them down the wishing well
    She won’t apologize
She won’t give you back what’s gone
    Maybe she’s very wise
    ‘Cause she keeps carryin’ on

  • @auditasum Feb 6

It took 2 hours, but mine is finally up.

  • @ggallagher Feb 6

Took 2 hours. I technically started at 7pm my time because I had already seen the suggestion 😉 but I"m very happy with this. The suggestion was like a perfect anchor for a bunch of themes I had swirling around.

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 6

Did it! In like exactly an hour! My first Skirmish. Feel like it took 15-25 minutes to write and getting down the playing/singing and then recording took much of the time.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 6

I'll be back in the am to listen around.

  • @complexissimple Feb 6

I didn't make it! . . . But now I have lots of bits and pieces that might add up to *half* a song about young Doc Emmett Brown. I'll keep fiddling with it as FAWM goes on.

  • @hazzard Feb 6
I kind of succeeded and kinda failed! i started one song but it took too long, so i started one i thought would be simpler but fell into the same trap! so this is the one i ended up recording but it took about 2 hours. not in the spirit of a skirmish where you pour it out and don't let perfectionism bog you down! but i'm really happy with both songs (second one coming later) so this was a very productive theme for me, thanks!!

  • @timfatchen  Feb 6

Ha! I just realised I misread the entire thread as 8am! Shoulda gone to specsavers. oops.. I did...@zxcvbnm thanks for firing this one up, so far it's been the best skirmish output I've seen! Must be that none of us are as panicked as usual.

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 6

Chances are it was 08:00 pm somewhere else, and does it really matter? Thanks for participating
