Because I didn't wait for inspiration

I decided to write a song-a-day project as soon as 2019 began, and it's been going strong. 8 songs down so far, and you're welcomed to listen to them all. I have no idea how long I'll last, but maybe long enough to participate in this year's FAWM fully as well.
(please note that all the following links contain explicit images as the pictures I chose to include with each song)

By the way, the reason you haven't seen me around here in the last few years is because I found myself getting addicted to the feedback so much so that I stopped writing in the off seasons (when FAWM and 5090 are all said and done), so I had to cut the habit.

Cheers and have a good FAWM y'all,

I had some serious writers block to contend with today. It was just not going anything like I wanted it to, but eventually (after like the 6th time I was gonna give up the song-a-day project today, and then felt shitty about that fact, and then tried again) I managed to write the 9th song.
    Here it is:

Listening through a couple now. Glad to see you around.

Thanks for listening TC Elliot. Hope you like them. πŸ˜€

I got the 11th one done just now:

Really impressive layering and nice production, @psyt. I'm too new around these parts to recognize your name/music but this is good stuff. I'll keep an ear out in FAWM!

  • @quork  Jan 11

Pretty impressive stuff, @psyt. The songs I listened to are instrumental. Do you sing or otherwise add vocals? Could be some great opportunities fo collaboration.

  • @psyt Jan 12

Thanks @metalfoot. I did FAWM back in 2010-2011. My name is Melody, by the way. πŸ˜€

And thanks @quork, I do vocals pretty rarely. Out of this batch of songs so far, I only sang in the sixth track (The Unbeliever). I've also done a bunch of collaborations back when I was actively participating in FAWM & 5090, but have since kinda steered clear of collabs, mostly because I'd rather put all my music on my site, (and who knows what else in the future), and the more collabs there are, the trickier it gets to keep up with all the other artists who are due their credit and whatnot to let them know about what I wanna do with the music we've done together and get permission and whathaveyous.

@psyt very cool vocals, love the electronica feel. I would love to have your facility with synths and software based music. Something I’m trying to move into, but it’s a long way from my guitar-based singer songwriter style. If we were ever to collaborate (which I have never done) I would happily sign over any rights.

Are you Psy-T from KVRaudio forums?

  • @psyt Jan 12

Yes @scottlake, Psy-T was my artist alias up until some 7-8 years ago, and I'm unaware of any way to change my nickname there and here (other than maybe creating a new account), but I've changed to using my real name as my artist name.

Thanks @quork, and I appreciate the sentiment. I guess we'll see if I have any creative energy left by FAWM time, and maybe we can collaborate on something or other.

I finished my 12th song for the year earlier today, and as I was doing my backups, I realized it's my 300th song overall. Wow.
    Anyway, here it is:

  • @psyt Jan 13

I'm thinking of taking a break from the songwriting for the rest of the month, just for the lovely round number of total songs written (though on the other hand, taking a break at 303 songs would be more appropriate for me), and then doing FAWM for another 14 songs (which'd bring the total up to 314, another nifty little number 😝).
I'm not sure, there have been days where the writing had been a serious struggle and I almost threw in the towel, which was accompanied by feeling terrible about it. This could be a good idea because I don't feel a twinge of failure accompanying the writing pause.
On the other hand, I haven't burnt out yet, so maybe I should keep taking advantage of my creativity and productivity.

Oh, and I had a great (and very challenging) idea for my 303rd song: I'll use 303's for everything. No other instruments (but plenty of effects to shape it into the different roles it'd need to fill). 😝

It's really hard to keep up a daily habit like that. I lasted 10 days last year when I tried for a daily songwriting habit. It provided a good warmup for FAWM, but even after FAWM I didn't go back to doing stuff daily.

I pretty much universally lean in to the feelings driving the block. Do I feel like my songs are poop? Then I sing about poop. Over 50/90 I had enough that I released a whole crappy album, "Putting the Crap back in Crapcapella." On one of those tracks, I sing: "Some people say it's singing, I suppose. Some people say it's pooping with my mouth! But I am doing this thing!"
