Fender acoustasonic - Anyone have/like?

I played one briefly in the store, and was intrigued, but they are hella expensive. I also like the look of the guitar, but for the price I'm not willing to pay for a look.

I haven't ever owned any semi-hollow-body guitars. Was curious if any folks here had/liked/disliked the fender acoustasonics?

  • @mardeycranbleson 7 weeks

I think I played one of the really old versions I liked it. Considered getting a Chinese knockoff I saw one for like 350 and they’re usually decent.

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

@siebass - Seems like every single YouTube music channel got one from Fender... 😉

  • @gm7  7 weeks

Yes I have one. It's a Fender Acoustasonic 100...is that the type you are referring to? Great sound I put my Martin D16 thru it and mic with a SM57...nice tone.

  • @siebass  7 weeks

@gm7 Oh, I didn't even know they had an amp as well; I was talking about the guitar specifically. I added a picture above to reflect this.

@zecoop Yeah, maybe it's just a marketing blitz, but I have been curious since they came out, and I when I sold some gear to get the studio ready pre-FAWM, I tried one out in the store and liked it.

@mardeycranbleson If there's a Chinese knock-off might be worth a roll of the dice. I played my SX Jazz bass (fender jazz knockoff) for years...do you know the brand?

  • @mardeycranbleson 7 weeks

I’ve been buying guitars off dhgate for the past year, they don’t really have brands you just look at the seller reviews and roll the dice. Bought 3 so far and all have been decent to excellent .

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

@siebass - from what I have heard, I really like the versatility they have with all the different settings. Sounds they play really, really nicely too. I like that they have nylon strings

  • @dzdandcunfsd  7 weeks

Personally I'd never pay that much for a guitar, and they did seem to give one to everyone with a YT channel 🤣 I think everything it does could be done with a decent acoustic/electric nylon string and a modeling amp that would cost about 1/4 of that price, but if you love the look of them then by all means. Again just personally, but if I payed that much for a guitar I'd hate it as soon as one little fret wasn't absolutely perfect or had any flaw whatsoever, which I've never seen a non-customshop Fender anything come out flawless. I estimate in probably 6 months or less you can get a Bender Acousticsonical or something for probably under $500 USD. That will be pretty exactly copied, and will need maybe some fretwork and new tuners and be just as nice.

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

@dzdandcunfsd - Yeah, I can't see myself ever having a guitar of that price. 😁

  • @dzdandcunfsd  7 weeks

@zecoop they gave so many away to "reviewers" they have to make up the difference somewhere 🤣 Quick search after you mentioned that and there were hundreds of them. I think I'd have to have one of Jimi's old guitars and him to play it for me for that price though, but I am ridiculously cheap especially on the guitar front. Those do sound pretty nice though and I bet are super comfy to play with the nylon. I might be interested once someone else gets ahold of one and starts copying them, and sure wouldn't of turned one down if had been given a freebie I'd be singing its highest praises too LOL

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

@dzdandcunfsd - "Dear Fender - I am completely happy to receive a free Acoustasonic for review and am absolutely ready to post a very honest glowing review!. Appreciatively, ZeCoop"

  • @dzdandcunfsd  7 weeks

@zecoop You never know! It might work 🤣

  • @headfirstonly  7 weeks

£1500 is crazy money for a guitar. And I say that as someone with a guitar collection in double figures.

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

    @headfirstonly - Unless it's a Parker Fly... 😉

  • @headfirstonly  7 weeks

@zecoop Didn't even pay that for the Fly. Nowhere close.

  • @quork  7 weeks

It strikes me as a niche guitar with some great advantages and some drawbacks. It can be played unplugged, but given the narrow depth probably won't have much acoustic volume or sustain. When plugged in, it has a wide variety of acoustic guitar/amp tones, but not much on the electric side. The electronics run off a rechargeable battery, so if it runs out of juice not just a matter of putting a new one in. Also some people are complaining of construction issues after owning it for a year. I like the idea, but it seems pretty limited in what it does. Just my opinion without having played one, of course.

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

@headfirstonly - Good man - and just to be clear, an instrument is worth whatever it is worth to the person buying/playing it. I do love a good bargain, though. And the Parker seems like a stellar axe. 😀

  • @johnstaples  7 weeks

@zecoop exactly! Back in 2007 I got an American Fender Vintage Hot Rod Series '57 Stratocaster (in Candy Apple Red of course!) I could have bought a decent Mexican Strat or even a knock-off but apparently I'm going for quality over quantity! 😁 Or maybe I just already spent all my electric guitar allocation! So I now have a "collection" of solid body electrics that consists of the aforementioned Strat and a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard. Collection complete!

  • @zecoop  7 weeks

@johnstaples - ooh, purdy!! And I bet the Strat screams (if it wants to) with that bridge pickup. Sweet!!

  • @johnstaples  7 weeks

Back on topic, @siebass that Fender Acoustasonic looks amazing! I may just have to trot over to the local guitar store and play one a bit! I'm still wanting a semi-hollow and I have always kinda had my eye on the Epiphone Casino, you know, because of those Beatles!

  • @siebass  7 weeks

It's worth a play, @johnstaples at least. I really liked it (not $2 grand liked it, but still). @zecoop and @dzdandcunfsd, guess we just gotta start a youtube gear review page. We need three "review" units to never return....I bet we can make this happen.

  • @mikeb 7 weeks

Way overpriced, in my mind. I know a couple of people with them, and they don't sound all that 'acoustic' when plugged in. The Taylor T5 does similar (with a piezo) and I think it sounds better. I haven't heard the Acoustasonic as full-on electric, so can't comment on that. They just released a Jaguar-based acoustasonic.too.
