Songs about books
@mariekevinkmusic Feb 19
I know there is a thread about what books people are reading and I have come across a few songs based on books. I am interested in hearing more.
Please post any links in this thread. It may even give us something new to read.
I have found these two (well, I found more but I can't remember how to find them again!!)
@andygriff Rebecca (Rebecca) (https://fawm.org/songs/119456/
@tukayandryan The Yearning (Wuthering Heights) https://fawm.org/songs/113997/

I've seen a few too, and here's one by @eas3637 that reads like a story and involves a book, highly recommended: https://fawm.org/songs/117141/
I've run across Ulysses, Canterbury Tales, LOTR and a few more... good stuff!
Like this one about a book about a book by @majordanby called Ulysses Contract: https://fawm.org/songs/112361/

Aw shucks. ☺️ Thanks, John!
Just listened to the other one you recommended. Beautiful and actually brought a tear to my eye!

Well, oddly enough my two latest songs this year. Not planned that way, just happened.
“Mr Boffin”, a character from Dickens’s “Our Mutual Friend”:
And “Gower Street Penguins” about a bookshop and the closing of a library:
Thanks for starting this thread!

This one is from last FAWM, it was inspired by KM Herkes' Rough Passages: https://soundcloud.com/deirdre-moira-murphy/old-riffie

I did nearly an entire album like that... it's called Bibliophile. 2 Shakespeares, 2 Harry Potters, HP Lovecraft, Hunger Games, and a little known book of horror stories for kids about age 6-8 are all covered. If you're interested, here it is... https://chanticlaire.bandcamp.com

I wrote one dedicated to Alice In Wonderland four months ago:
And during FAWM back in 2011 I collaborated with Constellation of Thieves on one I wrote dedicated to Naked Lunch:

The first ever song that I wrote for FAWM back in 2009 was called "Anathem" and was about Neal Stephenson's epic science fiction novel. It may still be lurking on MySpace somewhere, but it really wasn't very good (my song, not the book).
@franniezest Feb 20
one of the first few songs i ever wrote was about a book 1Q84 by Murkami.

The first song I wrote and performed in public was about Piers Anthony's Ogre, Ogre. I think I was 11, and I sang it at my summer camp (Sierra Mountain Choral Camp), with accompaniment by another camper. Someday I'll find the piano score again. I was planning to record myself singing it after FAWM and upload it to Songcraft anyway for my own purposes, so I can link it here if you like.

Just found this thread again. Going to have a listen to everything and see if we can get 14 songs for a World Book Day compilation on April 23rd. (See the other forum with this title.)

I'm happy to create music if it sounds as an interesting idea. Maybe there are other songwriters interested in creating a song for a World Book Day. I would be happy to submit the piece I've mentioned: Pages from the Book and something else I could create about a specific book 😀
