Where is the midwest?

I think it's time to take a break from fake band names and raise this perennial question: What are the boundaries of the midwest? If you're in Cleveland, say, you can drive to NY City in a little more than 7 hours. I really just wanted to post a link to this classic of Indiana punk rock. I just remembered that my first live gig involved opening for Dow Jones and the Industrials. They also played at my HS. I gave my copy of this record to Goodwill, along with all of my albums. It's right here.

I've had big arguments with people about this. If you live in my midwest, you think it's everything between the Ohio and the Missouri(ish). If you live in, say, Nebraska, you think it includes eastern Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, maybe even the Dakotas, and not really Ohio or even Michigan.

Or... it's where corn is grown. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_production_in_the_United_States#...

    Ever see the Gizmos, Danny?

  • @rayboneor  Jan 31

@downburst No, I don't think the Gizmos played much in Indiana. They went off to NYC to try to make it or something. I did have a copy of the album they shared with Dow Jones and the Industrials, but I gave that to Goodwill as well. Now that I think about it, they had a midwest song on that album. As a big Vulgar Boatmen fan, I was a little disappointed when I finally got to hear the Gizmos. But still, mediocre Gizmos is better than no Gizmos.

Strangely, I've never heard that Gizmos song! Pretty good, and it's so on topic.
