Famous Painting Title Challenge

  • @tamsnumber4  Jan 20

I collect info and do prompt challenges for our Songwriting Group each month. This was my newest idea and thought you might like to give it a go. I will post a list of some famous paintings and of course, if you don't like any of these, you can go search for some more. I always stress that they can be inspiration, a hook or used as a line in a song, hope this can help take you somewhere and bring on another song. I am not assigning any to anyone, you have to choose one that brings on your next song. Have Fun! #famouspaintingchallenge

Thx @tamsnumber4 i will have a go for sure!

  • @ampersandman  Jan 20

I immediately had to think of this song: The Weakerthans' "Night Windows", John K. Samson's brilliant take on Edward Hoppers' painting. That guy is a master lyricist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDB64nF6rts

  • @oddbod  Jan 20

I had fun trying to match the artist to these
I knew quite a lot in the top half but very few in the lower

  • @celineellis  Jan 20

One of the titles I have written down for this years FAWM is 'Mona Lisa' after i tried to write it last year but stumbled. so its in my list for this year!!

  • @andygetch  Jan 20

Good challenge. I wrote a song based on 'The Old Guitarist' (and an interview with Guy Clark) in 50/90 about 7 years ago. It was also helpful to me to use the painting content as inspiration.

  • @rayboneor  Jan 20

The only painting that's ever inspired me is René Magritte's Treachery of Images, also known as Ceci n'est pas une pipe. (It's a painting of a pipe, with the caption: "This is not a pipe." A good number of my songs really aren't songs, so I feel they should be titled "Ceci n'est pas une chanson"

  • @tjeff  Jan 20

Thank you! Some great titles there.

  • @gubna Jan 21

My father was a visionary painter. I thought of using a bunch of his painting as song titles. Cause a lot of them are not only trippy paintings, but trippy titles. I recognize a bunch of these in your list. The Gulf Stream . I read two books on that painter.
    Great idea!

  • @barbara  Jan 21

    "Only Ophelia Knows" https://fawm.org/songs/115811/

  • @scottlake Feb 10

A nice reproduction of Cafe Terrace at Night hangs on my studio wall! A print of Kadinsky’s Farbstudie gangs on another wall

  • @estebanlartigue  Feb 10

    Nice

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 11

More wonderful songs and lyrics inspired by famous paintings!! I am so happy that this challenge is working for some and I will try to give all attempts at this a listen!

  • @gubna Feb 12

Oh, this one is pretty weird. The painting is weird, but incredible, and about a weird event. But here it is. Belshazzar's Feast.

I went off-piste and ended up just using the title of the painting ‘paradise’ rather than writing about anything related to it - i just couldn’t get a picture of the beach out my head 😂 thanks for sharing the challenge - was fun!

  • @conorg Feb 28

I've been drawing scrabble tiles for song titles and lucky enough got a painting title! The painting is Franz Kline's Cupola:
