Coronavirus 5 challenge!!

  • @guatecoop  Mar 15

Since many of us will be at home a great deal more over the next 3 weeks or more, @zecoop and I have decided to do our own musical challenge that you may be interested in. What we decided for ourselves is to collaborate on 5 songs in the next 3 weeks. It could certainly be more, but that’s the number that we decided on. We will post our songs here and will be sure to include the fawmer’s name(s) when commenting on their songs so that the comments show up on their page. Who knows how long this will last, but we can make the best of it!
You don't have to collaborate with anyone, of course....We just decided to collaborate with each other because we have the chance to do it. So, whatever song that you write, just include who was in on it.....

  • @andygetch  Mar 16

I wrote this to our Facebook Song Skirmish prompt 'Gathering The Music'

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 16

Cool idea! 5 songs in 3 weeks. I am happy to share lyrics or co-write if anyone would like to collaborate!

  • @timfatchen  Mar 16

I hafta get home first (tomorrow), get the FAWM backlog out, then head for the hills (splendid isolation) which the 2 of us +Macci the Bushfire Refugee Dog Home At Last..will reach Friday night. Then it becomes possible!

  • @chipwithrow  Mar 16

@andygetch - that is a cool song! Listening now in headphones as I write this post.
I sort of accidentally wrote a song last week, so I might as well do a few more.
I'm also going to have more time to start posting short Instagram and Facebook music videos again.

  • @siebass  Mar 16

I'm game; let me know what I can do to help/participate @zecoop @guatecoop

  • @cicpisces Mar 16

  • @siebass  Mar 16

I play guitar, bass, "midi controller" and "Logic Pro". Currently no drums b/c home renovations. Also do lyrics, but singing is also limited due to home renovations, a toddler and an infant. LET'S BREW SOME CORONA SONGS!!! I still want to come up with some kind of "viral" marketing campaign for Corona, like people using super soakers to spray corona in each other's faces from at least 6 ft away.

  • @zecoop  Mar 16

@siebass - I think we are hoping others will write or collaborate together on five songs (or however many) for a Corona EP as well. Rob and I are writing together because we suddenly have some time, but we are looking forward to what other people come up with too!

  • @siebass  Mar 16

@zecoop sorry for misunderstanding. I think I'll probably get at least one COVID song done in this time.

  • @robynmackenzie  Mar 16

    Oh yes please!

  • @guatecoop  Mar 17

@eargoggle : i know that you said that you’re in on the other thread, so here is the one we will use.

  • @eargoggle  Mar 17

@guatecoop Oh awesome, this is great. I'm away from my studio until....uhhh, who knows? But, have phone, have dobro, so, I'm in.

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 17

just wrote and recorded and filmed a video of a brand new song for this whole corona thing, called 'someone's laughing while humans plan'.. video at

  • @berni1954  Mar 17

Suitably downer sounding music for those lyrics @andygetch

  • @risbon  Mar 17

I’m in! Have new ideas and some time

  • @zecoop  Mar 17

I'm digging it @andygetch - Really dark and full of interest and intrigue

  • @guatecoop  Mar 18

@mikeskliar that tune is sooo good! I’m always impressed when someone is playing a song like that, as it just flows so well, but you have all kinds of things going on with your voice and playing! AND it’s a new song! The words, melodies, and playing fit perfectly. I could see a whole band arrangement of this. Well done!

  • @zecoop  Mar 18

Good one @mikeskliar - You definitely have the knack for topical songs. Really great and fun to watch you play it.

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 18

thanks @guatecoop and @zecoop ! and @andygetch - really interesting track there, really thought provoking and inspiring! (one little thought, a little cut-the-low frequency eq would make it sound even better)
rock on, everyone, i suspect more tunes to come for many of us! hang in there!

  • @driftwood1  Mar 18

@andygetch the dark chaotic sound captures today's mood perfect, but the song has hope. I like it.
@mikeskliar excellent lyric. I like the video too. Always nice to get to see folks doing their thing.

  • @driftwood1  Mar 18

    Here's my first track

  • @zecoop  Mar 18

Nicely done @driftwood1 - Really good to hear a positive song, I must say. More light and warmer weather is certainly helping my moods (tempered with the C19 stuff, of course). Thanks for sharing that!

  • @metalfoot  Mar 18

I wrote a song for @tamsnumber4's birthday yesterday but not counting it toward the challenge.

  • @ustaknow Mar 18

Aha, I see, me confused like some others too.

So, you-all are posting them here?
    --> Well, alrighty then:

    Track One of

    Things to do,
    "Don't Give Me Vodka"

    A re-write of @arthurrossi lyrics, and even re-titled (how rude aye 😉 )
    - Thank you Mr. Rossi, whomever you are! 😀

I hope you like it, if not, oh well 😀 ... maybe next time! 😉

  • @ustaknow Mar 18

Oh, and I propose, but do as you like - to "comment/feedback" on that persons SoundBoard... I'm having a hard time fishing through these. Well, with mine, feel free if comment at all, - do it on my soundboard. (That's what I'll do anyway, myself; when can figure out, fyi's from imma gonna to the actual posts 😀 )

    - Just say'in, just say'in

  • @cynthiawolff  Mar 19

I’m in ...Fawmily United to make this world a better place..
    Stay well...stay happy...remain positive...

  • @cynthiawolff  Mar 19

    Loved your video @mikeskliar
Great to see you playing in your space!

  • @timfatchen  Mar 19

I'm not able to get back to recording until Sunday still. But hey: I'm just dying (oops) to include this sparkling new FAWMling in a coronavirus song, it'll clean everyone out!

  • @guatecoop  Mar 19

@cynthiawolff I’m glad that you are in!

  • @ustaknow Mar 19

    Track Two:

    === === ===
Again, for me, if care to comment at all, - don't krappe up this thread, and make it hard to go through concerning all my greatness 😉 - put it on my Soundboard, I love having that krapped up 😀 there.

All the best to all, be well, - I hope.
(My hayfever made this "interesting" but hear others dealt with that too! O M G!)

  • @zecoop  Mar 19

@ustaknow - I'm just starting to notice my seasonal allergies ramping up... Ugh. Time to take the Zyrtec again.

  • @ustaknow Mar 19

    @zecoop I have to wear a blaze orange T-shirt:

  • @timfatchen  Mar 19

Allergies. T-shirt. Now THAT'S an idea. (Pass the polaramine)

  • @ustaknow Mar 19

    @timfatchen 😀

  • @ustaknow Mar 20

    Track three:

    === === ===
Again, for me, if care to comment at all, comment on my SoundBoard, not here. Thank you! 😀

  • @ustaknow Mar 20

    Track four:

    === === ===
Again, for me, if care to comment at all, comment on my SoundBoard, not here. Thank you! 😀

  • @driftwood1  Mar 20

Here's my second write. A tune about going to the supermarket.

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 21

song number two, after hearing a certain person say 'chinese flu' too many times...

  • @ustaknow Mar 21

This is Track 05 and the last of them; a fitting way to wrap these up, indeed!

As with all of mine, read the liner notes, - yes the last four are currently Lyric only due to the seasonal Heyfever. Actually, singing "can" clear it up, as well as kick off a coughing fit, - all that stuff cleaning out from the nasal cavities! 😀 (And so, spared "siebass" and the rest last night 😀 hahhh! Also, where I was, - couldn't do it. Siebass did a flawless job!, BTW, as if doing it with great experienced! many times prior!; not a first run pilot/test.)

    "His Laurels a Nations Gain"

  • @ustaknow Mar 21

    - Only Track one of these is musicated and a collaboration, again, with arthurrossi. So, I start with a drinking song, what else! 😀

  • @ceilidh  Mar 21

Just posted a COVID-19 2020 reboot of the Bob Dylan classic:

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 22

giving this thread a bump, song three (for me) has been written, but I need to record it, as with songs one and two, will probably be videos i'll upload to youtube... not sure if its related to this, but theres a 'new' fb group for this,?

  • @ustaknow Mar 22

@timfatchen So, ~ Oi! Setup yet? 😀 WhatchaGot?

    You still in Die-er/dyer/dryer need?
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
    Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me

  • @timfatchen  Mar 22

"I lift mine eyes up unto the hills. From whence cometh my help?"

Got the dog home, missing a cable or two but studio should be ready to roll tomorrow. At a mile high, quarantined , trauma trip across, borders closing behind us, lockdowns following us, blowouts, repairs enroute, feel like okies from the Grapes of Wrath. Wasn't at the beach! It's autumn....

  • @ustaknow Mar 22

@timfatchen isn't it all beach in Oz? Like our Arizona/NuMex, it's all good 😀 Little salted water dripping over a swamp-cooler fan... just like being there.

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 22

    song number three...

    'empty taxicabs'

    hang tough, everyone!

  • @ustaknow Mar 22

Well, this here is Track 06, one more than 05, just how it goes 😀

    "I Shall Not Fear"

Like the others, other than Track One, - got recorded, this one, - no audio:
A quick, 5 min write, - just came to me while waiting for lunch and finished just as the wife was serving 😀 - yeehaw! So, hearUgo!

    - No audio, no... - maybe come July, who knows..., maybe sooner.

  • @pipewrench67  Mar 22

Working on new stuff (instead finishing the FAWM stuff). Got one music mostly done, working on lyric, taking a little extra time trying to do something in 5/4 but not make it sound like it's in a weird signature. Hen I started another last night that is almost done so i could have 2 in another day or so.

  • @zecoop  Mar 22

First song of our "Corona Five" EP...
@zecoop - wrote the initial guitars (on the L&R) and bass
@guatecoop - added drums and another guitar (middle)
@helenseviltwin - added the lyrics and vocals

    Social Distancing

    When we've got to eat
    Yeah, we're staying home
    Want something to drink
    And we're staying home
    Got to see our friends
    But we're staying home
    And calling them instead

    Got a job to do
    But we're staying home
    Set it up so we
    Can just stay at home
    Work on the VpN
    Stay at home
    And not bother getting dressed

    Want to sing and shout
    But we're staying home
    'cause we're still allowed
    If we stay at home
    Got to see the sun
    But we're staying home
And go out in the garden

    No one can free me
    From this plague's prison cell
    So I will be here
Until it ends; until it ends

    Getting lots of rest
    While I'm staying home
    But my hair's a mess
    'cause I'm staying home
    Food cupboard roulette
    While I stay at home
And can't get to the shops

    Watching TV
    While I stay at home
    Catch up on my reading
    Stay at home
Still get to see my family
    Over video

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 23

about to check out that social distancing song zecoop! looking forward to hearing! meanwhile, here's song number four for me on the subject, 'stir crazy'

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 23

to @zecoop @guatecoop and @helenseviltwin what a blast! 'social distancing' is quite a ride, really captures the energy and craziness- excellent all around by everyone! looking forward to the whole ep!

  • @timfatchen  Mar 23

Got the complete studio set up on location, music starts tomorrow...

  • @timfatchen  Mar 23

@ustaknow just read I shall not fear". Good stuff. Right now, so exhausted and bouncing back from the mad scramble of the last weeks and just wholly relieved that we reached our daughter's place before they banned non-essential travel and closed borders despite blowouts and losing things: I'm in happy thoughts at present which really don't fit. But I think we're here fora loooong duration, so I could try things along the lines of "500 miles", tho it's actually 990km from home.

  • @zecoop  Mar 23

Caught up on your EP @mikeskliar - good stuff! I like how you are really mixing up the styles. I left all the comments on your page. 😀

  • @metalfoot  Mar 23

@zecoop @guatecoop @helenseviltwin Great power and energy to the song. Love it!

  • @kanareczek Mar 23

@andygetch dark songs for even darker times

  • @ustaknow Mar 23

Hey thanks @timfatchen - I'm thinking since the challenge is for 05 not 06 I may move it to my "Easter" challenge, so to speak, such as it is.

In my mind it's the time of "Trial", and scouring - or, that's a stretch (not in my mind, - Context). I kind of see these "Collections" as, well, like "Plays" possible, each track a scene.

Funny, I was watching the "extras" on a movie, "Black Snake Moan", prior to the movie, -- and that's what that Director/Writer/Orchestrator said and I got to watch that movie again, in a very different light.

Rhetorical, but if have any thoughts, feel free, I know your good with "Methods", so to speak, if you get that... ?

  • @psyt Mar 26

To say I'm late wouldn't be an understatement, but I finally started on my batch of six monthly songs, this is the March edition.
The cover is not *as* nsfw as most of my covers, but still something you probably wouldn't want displaying on your work screen. The vocals are a touch suggestive too.

  • @psyt Mar 27

And a new one for today...

  • @timfatchen  Mar 30 with @ponygal1961 I appear to FINALLY have everything working in exile. Sort of.
    Still bad internet connection tho.

  • @berni1954  Apr 1

Powerful piece you have created there (Polishing the Chrome) @andygetch

  • @berni1954  Apr 1

I wrote a song for the Seasons of the Ukulele last week which would fit right in here:

  • @berni1954  Apr 1

@ustaknow Just listened to your (Don't give me Vodka) collab with Arthur, who I worked with on a song during FAWM.

Great production. There is a real Robert Wyatt feel to that track and that is high praise indeed in my book.

  • @mikeskliar  Apr 3

Here's an adaptation of a traditional Passover song, about the subject on everyone's minds... enjoy.

  • @ustaknow Apr 6

Hey @berni1954 - thanks for that. I didn't realize you listened from a thread, this thread. Thank you again!
    - Right now, since we are all working from home, - do have a significant bandwidth issue, online speed to do any of this as I had been. Some of the stuffs used are pigs (bandwidth hogs, so to speak), with how they run on-line. All grinds to a hault and imporant work-work even gets booted out, timed out grinding the cache but new data feed.

Then, when bandwidth opens up, I'm to busy with IRL-work-work so keep missing to have a look (at other peoples work/music). Text (forums) is usually OK, so was sticking with that and tiny mp3's.

I'll know I'll get to it all eventually. So, just a note this active thread folks too, - even a T3 can get jammed up 😉 hahhh!
    - Skype, Zoom (not to bad via Browser), VPN's double varification, the real pig called FaceBook 😀 and all doing *HD! Max Res., ?OMG! and etc.

    - Good luck to all!

  • @zecoop  Apr 6

Rob and I have about 9-10 songs that are in various stages, but here's the second Corona EP song that we have finished with @helenseviltwin

    Waking Up

    Music: @zecoop and @guatecoop
    Lyrics/Vocal: @helenseviltwin

    Waking up

Waking up at God knows when
And I don't know what day it is
But I do the same as every other day
Waking up, but God knows why
Clocks go forward; I don't know the time
Don't recall feeling any other way

    And I keep existing
Not sure there's more to life than that
    I keep on drifting
    Through the days

Lost track of how long it's been
Since I've seen another living soul
Wonder if I remember how to speak
    Playing with the internet
Maybe the computer is my friend now
Wonder how long until it can really feel

    And I keep existing
Not sure there's more to life than that
    I keep on drifting
    Through the days

Oh, I'm longing to see your face
I'm longing to hear your voice

    Wake up; it's another day
Fight my way through more of the same
And I guess that has to be enough
But there will be better times
When I can call this life
And not just a brain and a pulse

  • @guatecoop  Apr 9

I think that this challenge is dead. Not enough people or interest. @helenseviltwin, @zecoop , and I have a bunch of songs for this, but we will probably just put them up or out all together at some point. Thanks to those who did it! We’ve certainly turned this situation into a songwriting boon.

  • @mikeskliar  Apr 9

@guatecoop @helenseviltwin @zecoop - you should by all means assemble the songs you've created and post together as a bandcamp album (or something similar, i find bandcamp to be useful). I'll probably do the same with my four or five songs (maybe will keep writing another song or two and it'll be a kind of "corona ep"). its weird to be writing about this stuff in a way, but perhaps weirder to write about anything else, maybe? anyway, best to everyone!

  • @zecoop  Apr 9

@mikeskliar - Yep, that is definitely the plan. We are just working on getting them completed... (and we need to figure out a band name, lol) 😀

  • @chipwithrow  Apr 9

@guatecoop @zecoop @helenseviltwin - Listening to Waking Up now. What a great song! The line about remembering how to speak really resonated - I'm diligently practicing my Spanish everyday, but I have no one to practice speaking it with.

  • @mikeskliar  Apr 13

here's a brand new little song about the subject at hand... a quick one..

  • @dzd  Apr 13

@chipwithrow I was once upon a time fairly fluent in Mexican....can't really call it proper Spanish.........was similar to saying a thick Texas/Okie accent same as proper queen's English, It appears to be one of those things if you don't use you lose though, I still understand mostly what's being said, but that's about it

@zecoop I know of a thread that has a lot of suggestions 😉

  • @chipwithrow  Apr 13

@mikeskliar - Charming and topical in that way you do so well! I dig your harp playing!
@dzd - I have friends from various countries - Guatemala, Argentina, Chile, El Salvador, Costa Rica - whom I practice Spanish with regularly. But of course I haven't seen them for weeks. (I texted one yesterday to wish her Felices Pascales.)
Of the nine songs I've written since FAWM ended, four are related to these strange times we're in. Here's one:

Also, I keep adding to a poem/diary that I started about three weeks ago. I'm up to 27 couplets now, such as:

Morning birds are singing, I can hear ‘em before dawn
but it don’t much feel like spring without baseball going on

I was inspired to do my poem (I try to add a verse or two of observations daily) by the new 16-minute long Bob Dylan song "Murder Most Foul" (topic of another thread here).

  • @guatecoop  Apr 17

@chipwithrow that’s quite a variety of Spanish dialects that you have with your friends!!! That will serve you well. I love how you are singing in Spanish.

  • @berni1954  May 2

My latest opus dealing with the lockdown:

  • @ustaknow May 2

    @berni1954 - love the track.

And love your machine. Well done!
-- I just gave a nice one away; - then the person who had it (maybe just prior to all this, - providential?!), anyway,
--their daughter (in all this...) said, "hey, I wanna play the uke", and was told, sure, -- here's one! Her eyes popped out, purely dumbfounded and speechless that her parent would have such a thing, -- right there! 😀 and on request. (Instant gradification, at it's best!)
[And a fine one too, -- some OEM Rep gave it to me to review... so, had allot of unnecessary "glitz" laid into it... sounds like any other 😉 , no less.]

Again, great work! I see you have a nice following over there. Good for you!

  • @berni1954  May 16

I actually won that Uke in a Christmas song writing contest. It was the prize offered one week in the Seasons of the Ukulele Contest.

It belonged to a fabulous singer-songwriter in Tasmania called Jon Duncan. I am so happy to have it among my collection of instruments.

Here is a link to Jon's latest Coronavirus inspired opus:

PS His very talented wife did the artwork in the video.

  • @ustaknow May 16

@berni1954 wow, and he wrote that November 5th... or was it March 11th? Ah... OK yes, that eu date format. That's why I write 11Mar'20 - no mistakes! 😀 I was thinking how prophetic!

Anyway, yes, love the artwork, -- nice water medium of some kind. I like the mixing of styles that shows through as her own, and as well her subject. I still, but rarely put out an oil... it's been a while. (Folks seem to like'em but don't "get'em" 😀 oh well...)

Anyway, that Lyrics, -- well done, heck anyone could cover it and sound good - wonderful when a lyric does that for yah!

  • @ianuarius  May 24

Nice, good that i caught this. I'ma write something

  • @mikeskliar  May 26

A few days ago I uploaded my most recent album "Pandemic Reality", all songs that were written between mid-March and mid-May of this year. Here's the link for anyone still here and interested...

  • @zecoop  May 27

@mikeskliar - Nice! I'll be checking that out soon. Rob, Helen and I are getting close to releasing our EP. Hoping for June 1. 😀

  • @zecoop  Jun 5

Hey! Our Distant Social Club album released today... We are all really happy how it turned out. It was nice to have a project to keep us occupied for a while during the Quarantine. Check it out if you are so inclined. The first couple and last couple are the rockets and the ones in the middle are more melodic. I think the songs are obviously tied partially to this issue but stand on their own very well too.

Btw, the first and last songs are from FAWM (at least parts of them were)

  • @mikeskliar  Jun 6

i bought it yesterday, @zecoop - a fine record! congrats to all involved! (I put a link on my fb to it and several others (my own as well)...

  • @zecoop  Jun 10

@mikeskliar - I saw that and am so appreciative of your generosity and goodwill.

  • @billwhite51 Jun 10

here is a llink to my album written in lockdown while my wife worked 18 hour days in the medical clinic across the street..

  • @zecoop  Jun 10

Listening to it now @billwhite51 - Good work! I especially liked the background singer on I see the line. 😀 (and big thanks to your wife for being on the front line.)

  • @billwhite51 Jun 10

that is my four year old daughter nterru[ptung me while im itrying to record..and i liked her energy so much that i kept it. thanks for listening.

  • @sunnymae  Jun 10

Just awesome Bill, and your daughter...well she's clearly a chip off the old block!! I loved the call and response between you two, not to mention your signature power packed lyrics and musicality.
    That's the stuff of memories.💜💜

  • @billwhite51 Jun 11

hi sonya, good to see you here and thanks for listening. how are you weathering the pandemic? hoping to hear more music from you in july.
