Influences: Musical tastes all over the map - old REM, Beatles, The Ventures, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Frente, Throwing Muses, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, Echo and the Bunnymen, Regina Spektor, Velvet Underground, The Cure, Devo, Bob Mould, Indigo Girls, Laurie Anderson, King Crimson, Rush, Yes, Chicago, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Led Zep, The Jam, John Wesley Harding, Peter Mulvey, Martin Sexton, Suzanne Vega, Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson... there are a lot of musical styles in my head mixing around.
Pronouns -> He/His/Him
I've been home-recording music for many years, with music that covers styles all over the map.
This last Spring, @guatecoop, @helenseviltwin and I made an album! It is called Distant Solcial Club. It was super fun to make and it is free if you'd like it:
Check out my dad's (@srcoops) and younger brother's (@guatecoop) pages! @srcoops writes a ton of lyrics and we've collaborated on a lot of songs. He's very open to people using his lyrics, and had lots of collaborations last year, so let him know if you'd like to use them!! Also check out @kovbleu and @slawbleu - they are in Treading Bleu with my younger brother and me. 😀
Oh, and I run this thing on FAWM called the 4-Track Challenge, where people mail cassettes to each other and add one track at a time. Sound fun? It is!! Let me know if you want in and check out the songs at @fourtracktape
I do a lot of instrumental music, since I don't write lyrics, so if you have an idea, let me know. I can't guarantee a collaboration will work out, but I usually do a lot of collaborating. I do collaborations as a co-writing project and consider them complete when I find the one that fits. I've had multiple versions of songs from various people, during FAWM, but the one that I end up posting is the official song, in my mind. I'm always finding amazing new people on FAWM!
I have used some MIDI keys the past few years, but most of the time, what you are hearing is me actually playing the instruments live, including drums, one track at a time. I write songs part by part and never quite know where they are headed, and very often get very deep in layers and atmospheres. I love painting with sound.
This is my 11th FAWM. It's always wonderful and something I look forward to. It's the best part of Winter! (...the only good part of winter?) 😉
All of my recordings, FAWM and otherwise, are on my bandcamp page
2012 (Computer died and only did simple parts)
(but I did get this awesome song with @seemanski)
2011 (almost all songs with my dad @srcoops): http://zecoop.bandcamp.com/album/zecoop-fawm-2011-demos

Thx...who doesn't love some fuzz. I played that with an Epiphone Special II..the red mahogany version so nice to look at... thru my Fender Ultra Chorus 112 with some distortion and then into a free guitar vst plugin.
Good luck with your song and congrats at getting 33 songs..holy poop as Opossum would say!!!! My wife loves him..The Snarlin' Darlin' song in particular.
your up and at it early today!!
Hey Zee Thank you for being you!!
I knew you were cheering me on, and having my connections FAWM and something I really wanted to do really helped me heal probably faster than I might have otherwise.
Really glad you liked my songs.
Now to check you out here. What a FAWM you had, a heart big enough to care about others with all that you do!
Thank you SO much for your great comments on "If I Could Live at the Zoo". I plan on having some fun with this song and will be taking all comments to heart as I go back and work on it. Your time and support are truly appreciated, zecoop. I'm trying to catch up on overdue thank you notes. I plan on hearing a few more of your family's offerings, too. I'm glad to have found you folks.
Thank-you for commenting on my Ballad of Joan and Harry. 😊 Appreciated it!
I will take that under advisement. Maybe I will call the album:
Eclectic Songs Vol1. This way everyone will be waiting for my sequel album called; Eclectic Songs Vol2.😃
So glad to hear that you appreciated the guitar on Midnight Oil. This has been a little side preoccupation of mine. I've always thought it's such a shame that bossa nova gets relegated to the elevator. The chord voicings and songwriting are so amazing. At a certain point it clicked for me that if I just stop trying to play a real bossa nova but modify it slightly to more of a straight 4/4 beat, the pedal motion on the thumb gives you a great kick drum and the fingers give you a nice snare to work with using the pallette of beautiful jazz chords that could work with more accessible up beat electronic music. I've always heard this in my head when I play by myself but this is the first time I really had the confidence and took the time to put the electronics to it properly.
Thx for the kind words on carousel and weary as a clock. I’ve been digging your work on so many collaborations. How is that you seem to be everywhere at once!? Truly prolific!
That's a lot of teachers!
You dodged that bullet, then! 😀
Good, I'm glad you're enjoying SIANspheric!
There is so much great music out there!
So glad to have you be a part of my FAWM, too! And absolutely, I would love to keep collabing! You've got my email now, so you know where to find me anytime -- and I've got yours! 😁
Bummer to see that totally inappropriate forum post by mr hollow. You respond to him with kindness then get whiplashed with anger.
Thank you very much for comment <3
Thanks SO much for listening to so much of my music this FAWM and making so many warm and generous comments. You are such an awesome person AND musician and I’m glad I met you.
THE ROSEMARY DIDN'T DESERVE TO GO OUT LIKE THAT!!
I have a feeling we will be friends for infinity and beyond, even if one day we decide to quit music and start underwater basket weaving, I think we would have just as much fun! I am grateful for you and I will def let you know if sparks hit me, in terms of inspiration. If actual sparks hit me I probably wouldn't take the time to message you because I should probably get out of whatever situation that is, hehe. Hope 2021 treats you well and i'll see you around!
Congrats on another absolutely epic FAAWM win! We are the champions my friends. we will keep FAWMing til the end! 😀
Thanks for the very positive comments about the shuffle song. Nice to know you’re a fellow trombonist. Really enjoyed dragon duel. Such a great guitar sound. I’ll have a listen to some more.
Thanks so much to listening and commenting on a few of my songs. So glad I stumbled onto FAWM this year. It's filled such a void for me. So much talent on here but it's the community part that was really such a pleasant surprise. The collaborations, supportive comments, prompts, weekly challenges, skirmish events. So great...I'm just marveling at the number of songs you've posted and how so many were collaborations. I'm gonna have to dive in a little more...
Ah, those charts are great! I expect I'll use a capo and transpose to catch all those flat chords (might have to transpose further to fit my vocal rage -- both are easy to do). Thanks!
YES PLEASE - I've been working on lyrics, so a cheatsheet for the chords on Polar Bear Waltz will deffo help 😀
Ah same to you matey and can't wait to catch up on your ones. What a treat i still have in store. wooohooo
Okay cool! I have lyrics started but things will be finished post fawm if that's alright. Will send your way in the next week or two.
Oh I Know like to add a bit of fun - and give alex a bit of a rev up ha ha
just wanted to check if you are ok for me to use heavy metal valentine on my podcast- i will check with Alex as well but we talk regularly and i often use his songs
I didn’t have a melody other than the dreaming beginning part that went right along with your guitar. but yeah that’s not who I was I was thinking of lol
Great job in the castle party!
I can think of one that doesn’t need to be found. she’s such a rare talent and a favorite of mine.
I can’t imagine anyone being able to do a melody to lyrics they didn’t write while putting it to music they didn’t do. it’s such a tall order but it really would be cool. maybe the universe will pull that one star into alignment.
glad you liked it! now I can finish catching up on the rest of your stuff 😝
Thank you so much for your lovely comments on Skinny Jeans, One Day I Should Learn to Play the Guitar, Time Blind, When it all Blows Over, Treat the Symptoms, Cold, Birds, and Don’t Look Down - that’s eight (EIGHT!) amazing comments and with 26 on the board I don’t know how you find the time but it is so appreciated ❤️ Thank you! And yes extra words might be my strong point but breathing I’m still working on😂
I just passed go and didn’t collect $200 (I didn’t want to bug you in an email so I just posted it 😂)
The vocals in a language I don't understand gives it an air of mystery that Elizabeth Fraser gave the Cocteau Twins, and maybe the slightly wobbly guitars and complex interweaving vocal patterns are similar. But dissecting it like that sounds reductive, when it stands on its own as a superb piece.
I've enjoyed the songs of yours I've heard this year. You inspired me to fetch a 12 string acoustic out of a dark cupboard and give it a thrash. I've not captured the bright zing that you do - think I might need a better mic - but I enjoyed it enough (and liked the results enough) to maybe not put it back in the cupboard just yet!
That photo of you and Tom is a treasure. Just listened to "Fake Smile" on Bandcamp. Love it! What a great collab between you and Karl. Floating in "Doorway to Wholeness" now. Powerful stuff. I think the opportunity to collaborate with others musically and simultaneously process is such a gift.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments on Francis. I'm so sorry to hear of your huge loss as well. Music can be so helpful in processing that. Are your FAWM songs from last year posted somewhere public? Would love to revisit them. I'm very behind on listening this year and am looking forward to digging into all your tunes. Big hugs to you as well. <3
Apparently, it was originally a British game and the name came from an amalgamation of Clue and Ludo, but the latter game wasn't well known in the states, so they just called it Clue. It predates Inspector Clouseau by about 20 years, and was invented in WW2, apparently. I have learned things!
Yep - it's Cluedo over here. Not sure why it's different, but I only knew it was different in the US because of the film, "Clue".
Ooh I forgot about the polar bear song! Currently brooding over a tequila and tonic. We'll see how the next day goes 😀 Hope you're doing ok! I am looking forward to listening to some of your tracks over the next few days.
Autoharp is pretty neat! I picked mine up at Old Town School of Music in Chicago. I've got a piezo pickup taped to the inside, so typically I record it with both that and a mic. But the pickup can also output to my guitar pedals/amp. Just food for thought 😉
I have done nothing that you haven't done to yourself.
I stand by Pete Seeger 100%.
Good Day Sir
Go for it! I'll find time
Eee just gave it a quick listen and am digging it! Looking forward to starting work on it tomorrow and should get you something early Thursday, hopefully! 💃💃💃
Oh yeah, there it is on eBay! Going into my cart! And there's the email confirming... wait what's happening? Hehe at that price how could I resist!?
I put the country tag in because I thought I'd managed to include some country influences in the instrumentation and harmonies but every time I mention country I get people telling me the song isn't country 😭 I thought maybe with a real live American singing I might get away with it this time. Nope, comment #1 😭
No no, overwhelm me, please! I am having a BLAST this year doing so many collabs. I desperately miss being in a band and getting to work off of people like this and would LOVE to collab again, so if you have something, please do send it my way!
Very good point with the Bum note John. I should have said it was intentional 😉
100% Pete Seeger inspired
Thanks for your brilliant comments on "The Shadow of Time" - I spent WAY too much time on it - but I am pleased with it, in the end. Your praise of the guitar work was particularly helpful, since I have only been attempting to concentrate on lead solos in recent times and that comment has boosted my confidence.
Thank you for your kind comment! I love Merilee's cello magic too. Thanks also for the answer about tagging collaborators. I wasn't sure how that worked.
Thanks for the comment on my latest rock opera song!
Aw, thank you so much for your lovely comment on Tell Me (Forever) - it’s gone somewhat under the radar, so especially grateful!
Dude the result was amazing, I mean it was 1984 and that was now 37 years ago. In fact I have decided to set up the project again. I will be building a web page that we can use as a portal linked to dropbox folders where audio stems can be left for people to use and bounce off.
I'll keep you posted !!
Don't worry about it! It's a low-key thing.
Man I wish I could fawm with more people, I just am so pushed for time these days but I love the idea of the four track. In 1985 we set up something similar called logistic services. We had a tascam reel to reel and we did a similar thing, invite diverse people to add tracks over something they had never heard, getting some amazing results. Keep at it sounds like you have real family project here. I have a couple of tracks with my daughter singing which were real fun
Glad you liked my "Sailing Away" That's the Nth time I have been compared with Jethro Tull this FAWM - Luckily they are one of my favourite bands, so I'm taking that as high praise indeed.😁
Thanks for your wonderfully positive comments on my collab with Liz "Linger"
I liked your "Lost Spaceman" track on the single synth challenge.
I would be delighted! I have several other collabs first in the queue so I may not be able to get to it right away, but send it over when you're ready and I'll get ideas simmering 😀
Thanks! The twist in Hedged was fun to write.
Hey, one of the advantages of working from home, right?
On the Zoom/Teams/Skype calls with your coworkers, with a nice blue shirt on top and the ol' Spandex pants down below... 😉
Thanks very much!
Hey! I have a vague idea but have been flat-out on another collab with a tighter deadline, hopefully all opening up to work on other things this weekend!
Ha ha, thanks so much for your comment on Trigger You, and for the great drum track you created - it totally made it!
Thanks for your kind words on "I'm Getting Through", your good nature and love of assembly instructions, and otherwise being one of the brightest parts of the past 10 days. I'll be sure to check out your bandcamp albums!
Hey! Be sure and tag me in when ya get that hair band together; I'm gonna wanna hear that!
No worries! Work is the worst. There's still plenty of time, though! Thanks for thinking of me again. I really appreciate you reaching out and offering feedback on my solo stuff!
WELL, I GUESS YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT SOONER, ZE!!!
LOL, thanks for the much needed laugh today. It's been a gift. Thanks also for your kind comments on "Politics of the Betrayed" and "Sanitized for Your Oppression". I'm immensely proud of both and feel like they mark huge progress in my writing style, so I'm very glad to hear they're resonating with you. They're definitely on the short-lived of tunes I hope to demo. Still 2 weeks left, right??
Thanks for your kind comment on my collab with Rob!
Yes, the heatwave email is the correct one.
Hope you and the family are ok.
Just listening for the first time at the same time as you posted that comment on my page. Spooky!
I like the vibe! I will see what I can come up with.
thank you, ze!
I’m hoping to catch up on your stuff soon!!
Awesome that you are about 100%! My physiotherapist told me to go on with balance exercises at home now that the therapy is done. I'll see how my ankle behaves when I can start walking forests with Sirius again.
We posted a few tracks, pure catcore, definitely more experimental than traditional @mojo stuff... I thought it would just be one or two songs, I'm surprised and happy to see Sirius growing as a musician. 😀
It's mid feb and you already have 10! Congrats on an inspired month!
okay, thanks and will do if so.
Thank you very much for comment "Seduction" <3
Pretty much cool stuff you got on bandcamp. I will sure go through a lot of the albums Post-Fawm.
Yeah you should try. You have so much energy in lot of you`re songs so it could be interesting on slow speed.
Just emailed you back but AHHHHH I'm crying it sounds so RAD!!!
Thank you for all your support! You are a wonderful friend! I hope you are able to get some rest this weekend! 💚💚💚
You had covid! Glad you are well, now!
Sorry for your shoulder, and good luck with the physo. These things are no fun. Hope your wound doesn't get in the way when you make music.
Thanks for the collab offer. Right now, the easiest thing for me is... to not collab, haha. Well, I managed to assemble a couple of @sirius songs, but working with him is quick and easy (there's a song where I didn't even have to play myself).
I see you're doing well this year again! I'll try to find some time to listen.
Thanks for your kind words on Not a Cloud in the Sky....I have watched a few YouTube videos from Rick Beato and others where they quantised the great Bonzo and it just didn't sound right!!
I did do an improvisation over the 135BPM drum track, but that was before I fixed my technology issues and I dumped the guitar tracks...I will have to revisit that....
Thanks so much for kind words. I did reconfigure my Dropbox links to the way they suggested in that thread. For some reason, they still go to "a different website." I had no issues in 50 in 90, so I'm not sure what is up. I'm not sure I have the emotional bandwidth to fix it, haha!
Gosh I sure used to love Schoolhouse Rock.
So kind thx you.
As I said..I gave her a blank canvas..she painted a picture!
Thx for the free drum..you da man..very gracious.
Think Voyager sounds brilliant as is, can't immediately think anything improving it, but thanks for the offer I'll give it a thought.
Also so behind on commenting (and recording) myself.
They have been working on the sidewalk right outside my studio window this last week, and both my neighbours are redecorating so it has been hard to find a quiet time of day to both concentrate or record anything.
Yeah we usually call the repairman too. But that surf organ always sounds great!
Thank you so much for listening to my songs, for making your drums available, and for your kind feedback!! I'm coming back to listen to yours soon 😀
And yes indeed, Laurie is amazing. My placing her as an influence is kind of aspirational; I grew up on her music as a kid and she gave me an appreciation for the surreal. Always really awesome to find another fan of hers.
check your email. wear ear plugs and then ear buds.
I’m running to physical therapy, so will catch up later
John, you're the man. I can't wait to listen to the rest of your sick jams
Just got the tape today! Thanks!
Thanks for the lovely comment, John!
I Like is yours.
