Influences: Musical tastes all over the map - old REM, Beatles, The Ventures, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Frente, Throwing Muses, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, Echo and the Bunnymen, Regina Spektor, Velvet Underground, The Cure, Devo, Bob Mould, Indigo Girls, Laurie Anderson, King Crimson, Rush, Yes, Chicago, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Led Zep, The Jam, John Wesley Harding, Peter Mulvey, Martin Sexton, Suzanne Vega, Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson... there are a lot of musical styles in my head mixing around.
I've been home-recording music for many years and play in a band playing original music (http://www.treadingbleu.com) with my super-talented brother @guatecoop, wonderful singer @Kovbleu, and amazing guitarist @slawbleu. I love writing/recording solo music as ZeCoop too, because my styles are all over the place.
Also check out my dad's and son's pages! @srcoops writes a ton of lyrics and we've collaborated on a lot of songs. He's very open to people using his lyrics, and had lots of collaborations last year, so let him know if you'd like to use them!! @MooseCoops has an amazing voice and love of music. He's collaborated with me too, notably on 2018's "My Grandpa", which had five different Coops on it! 😀
Oh, and I run this thing on FAWM called the 4-Track Challenge, where people mail cassettes to each other and add one track at a time. Sound fun? It is!! Let me know if you want in and check out the songs at @fourtracktape
I do a lot of instrumental music, since I don't write lyrics, so if you have an idea, let me know. I can't guarantee a collaboration will work out, but I usually do a lot of collaborating. I do collaborations as a co-writing project and consider them complete when I find the one that fits. I've had multiple versions of songs from various people, during FAWM, but the one that I end up posting is the official song, in my mind. I'm always finding amazing new people on FAWM!
I may have figured out MIDI this year, but most of the time, what you are hearing is me actually playing the instruments, including live drums. I write songs part by part and never quite know where they are headed, and very often get very deep in layers and atmospheres. I love painting with sound.
This is my 9th FAWM. It's always wonderful and something I look forward to. It's the best part of Winter! (...the only good part of winter?) 😉
All of my recordings, FAWM and otherwise, are on my bandcamp page
2012 (Computer died and only did simple parts)
(but I did get this awesome song with @seemanski)
2011 (almost all songs with my dad @srcoops): http://zecoop.bandcamp.com/album/zeco...

Hey Thanks for the listens and thoughts and i may just have little something to contribute to your Yacht Rock. I've been improvising with the lyrics for my Song "Sorry Not Sorry." Could morph into "Sorry Yacht Sorry" I'll see if I can get some recording done this week. Stretching fawm into April! I love it!
Such a pleasant surprise to read your string of feedback on my songs this morning, thank you so much! I had kind of abandoned "Tender Wet Tumor" because of its weirdness, maybe I'll revisit it now. . . a friend is giving me some mixing tutorials, so I'm hoping I can tighten up my recordings. It's been one of my favorite FAWMs yet thanks to all the supportive comments and great music like yours, I'm really grateful!
I was really touched by your song with your dad. It made me think about my own parents' relationship. I wouldn't say either of them took the lead in general, but my dad always played the role of the "strong" one, emotionally and physically, while my mom suffered from mental illness and chronic pain. But when my dad developed a rare neuromuscular disease, my mom stepped in to do things like help him walk without falling-- and tend to the head wounds he got from when he tried to walk without support and fell.
Thanks for checking out my vocals on your brother's song! You two are really talented, and I'm glad to have sung over tracks from both of you. Thanks also for the reminder that I didn't post any lyrics. They're up there now if you want to take a look.
So glad you enjoyed I can love you for today.. my Drifter ballad. I really appreciate the deep listening that you do not only on my tracks but so many other Fawmsters out there. 😀
Thank you sir! For the supportive comments. Still planning to you give more listens too. BTW, I am in possesion of two of your drum tracks, which I plan to use at 50/90.
Thanks for all your thoughtful comments. I appreciate hearing from a seasoned artist like yourself. You're a credit to the FAWM community.
Thanks for the comment on Singer in This Bar. Paul did a great job on it! Man, you have so many songs, I don't know where to begin. I'll pick a couple and give a listen. You're one popular FAWMer!
Yeah, I dunno. I feel like I've duplicated the concept of another song but I can't remember what song. Not important, really, but it's bugging me.
I had to Google that! Not familiar with The Nails
Sometimes, the yacht is magic; sometimes it's just a boat back to the late 70's. I think it all worked well, even if you hated it.
Well that’s very cool! I wasn’t an insider, and I picked up on some of it. I can see why you love it, particularly if it speaks a story you know in gesture and inflection/-pure meta-speech!
Haha! I don’t know...maybe in ASL he said plenty!
appreciate the comments/listening, thank you
Thanks for the time and comments on "Wind and Sea"....much appreciated!
I’m trying to get thru all the music on my watchlist this year. It will take more than just March.
gotcha! I'm the same with music from 2002 onwards 😀
QOTSA are an exception though - I recommend the Songs for the Deaf album they did with Dave Grohl
Hi! Thanks so much for the listens! You just helped me feel pretty good about the two that I recorded (okay maybe there's three) being enough. I'm not able to do any more listening tonight, but boy do I see some here that I'm eager to open up! FAWM is far from over, I tell ya.
Touché on the FAWMku!
Thanks for your visit kind Sir!
Thanks for your kind words on 'Step into the Twilight night'. I'm sure I will be visiting more of your stuff.
Yes, The Jam is awesome! Thanks for the pic, really nice to see it, and your shirt looks awesome!! Why didn't The Jam made concert T-Shirts? I guess they didn't have them in yet in the 70s.
Yeah I had nice arrangement ideas for "What Do I Say" when I was writing it. Never got the chance to record them because of recording limitations (my appartment has a noise curfew past 11 pm). And I figured I could do a much better take on it with a much proper melody. But I will definitely not drive myself crazy with it to get it right!
I really appreciate it your very thoughtful comments on my songs! I don't know if I can reply to every one but I will reply to the most recent two.
In regards to, "What Do I Say?", I feel flattered on what you said about it! I never thought I would got the melody right due to the limitations of the recording!! I was planning on re-recording it to have a better feel for the song but I don't know if I should, since you really like it!!! I'm afraid I may ruin it!
Got it, cheers. We’ll see if we can come up with something cool
Thanks for your comments on Plans For World Domination. I really have to try to add the vocals.
Hello zecoop, I just wanted to say thank you for commenting on my songs. You're obviously very active here, and kept yourself incredibly busy: writing, recording, listening, commenting. People like you make this online community a more welcoming, interesting and fertile environment. Best wishes, how the night came
Thanks for the kind comments on Walking The Rail. I noticed you're from Michigan. I'm in the process of writing a song about Michiana's back roads. I lived near Niles Michigan for five years and biked all over Southwestern Michigan.
Zee...you and i are solid! xo
Thanks so much for all your sweet comments and listening. Hoping to get caught up but work has been really hectic. You made some amazing stuff this year!
Hey ZeCoop, I gladly collaborated with SrCoop and I'm honored to be on your album. If you mention my name for "music and demo production", I'm fine with it! Whenever someone wants to commercialize it, I assume you will contact me, of course. 😉
Absolutely! I would love to collab again. I am still amazed with Traveler and what you did with it. Love your stuff. We’ll make it happen 😁.
Hey, no, thank *you*, man. I just wish there was infinite time to listen to all the stuff here. I'm sure I'll be stopping by again over the next few weeks.
Amanda and I have a question about using your drum track from the shared drums thread. Drop me a line? pigfarmerjr (at) gmail (dot) com
I hope that’s not a euphemism 😉
Sweeeeeeeeeet, give us a few days. I already have a melody in my head so the rest will come or it won’t; you know how it goes 😉
Hey, Zee....Zip Zap Zong have been a zong for you with all those Zee's 😀
Thank you for all your supportive comments and warmth.
Funny, I was just writing a note to your brother Rob while you were listening to my tune!
Thanks for checking out "Opals of Mars," that was a fun one to put together. And I ain't never been called "a good time" before, that's kinda cool and suggestive.
As for Bandcamp, feel free! As I said, I think this was a really good FAWM year all round and if nothing else, it makes February go really quickly and before you know it it's spring. The past few days have been lovely and springlike in Amsterdam, don't know about where you are. It think the groundhog got it right this year 😀.
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by and leaving nice comments, much appreciated. I think it has been a fantastic FAWM year this year and congratulations on the double FAWM win yourself! ( I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your dad again this year btw. )
Oh and Dan is probably feeling fragile for other reasons, but will be blown away by your comments on his songs.
*Lots of love.
Thanks for your kind words and love. This is Karl I’ve highjacked Dan’s account and been listening. Man you have cranked them out, congratulations. I’ve been feeling rough so only just back to listening, so will definitely catch up with your stuff, there will be flurries if comments. Keep posted. I think this is the third FAWM that I’ve been having treatment, hopefully this round will work out. Lots of to you and yours. Good health all round.
What a productive FAWM you had. Thanks for your music and your feedback on my songs! 😀
Lots of collabs this year. I'm envious (although I get to collab with my wife every FAWM). We unfortunately have not had much time to listen during February this year as we got behind and had to sprint to finish. Looking forward to listening now that we can breathe a bit.
I have big dream for "yacht" even though I didn't manage to make any magic with it. Need to catch up on listening to your tracks. Will be back soon.
In answer to your question, I sure do hope to get back to Baker Street this March!
No haha to be honest I kinda fell apart at the end of FAWM. I've got them loaded up in a project and I've got a few couple ideas carved out but nothing solid. I might give it one last push tonight and see what I can finish. Whatever happens with FAWM I might still mess around with them, and if anything ever comes of it I'll definitely send it your way.
Glad you liked my song with your drums! And congrats on your win as well-- looks like you might make it double.
Thanks so much for your drum track! Sorry I haven’t listened to your songs yet, but I’ll get on that today.
Thank you for kind comments on Dancer in the Dark! I love hugs n smiles 😁 Looking forward to kicking back and getting some listening done!
Thanks for the listen. I haven’t been a snake owner for a while now, but that one goes out to my old reptile companion Snakey Snake who did in fact have some shredding struggles due to the dryness in Utah.
If only I had bought Easy Shed Snake Oil!!!
Thanks for the listen and comment on my final 2019 FAWM song, not sure where it will go as I work on it further. I tracked lead guitar parts before doing the vocals, so know those, at least, will need redoing in places.
I'm such a goober and missed your note on my soundboard. Thank you! I would love to collaborate but think I may have run out of time for this year. Please keep me on your dance card for FAWM 2020?
I need to listen to more of your songs! 😁
Aw, thank you!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to get caught up soon on some listening. I didn't realize how far behind I fell on your songs! All those collabs rolling in...so I should have known! <3
Thanks for the listen and comments on 'Big Old World', much appreciated.
Ah yeah, it makes sense that there was also a 12-string guitar in Acoustic Dreams, that chorus sound is way too nice to only come from 2 guitars. And again, great job at the production!
Yay! You won too! Can't wait to catch up!
You did it once again. Happy FAWM!!
Thank you for your kind words on "The Congressman". Glad what I was trying to do tonally came through.
some day my dream of collaborating with ze will finally happen
I just sent Rob my idea for The Unspoken and Unseen. Hope he likes it....
Rats- I’m not going to get to Papercut this feb. I’m rehearsing with a Canadian group from Monday for a tour then album recording that will continue through March. I still have three unfinished collabs I took on earlier, which I’m going to try to finish. Including one for @guatecoop But it’s time to bow out of anything I haven’t started yet. At least we finished one together!
Awesome! I'm out of town this weekend but I'll check email later!
Sounds good, looking forward to it.
Still got time for a collab?
Haha, thanks very much for that comment...love both X and The Stooges!
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I appreciate a lot that you took time to listen to my song.
Hi! And thank you for your comments on the 1984/1985 song. I was really glad to read what you thought, and I agree with you 100% on the "the world in '1984' didn't happen suddenly. There was a build up and things that were going wrong before that. !" Thanks! : ))
Thank you for your kind insightful comments on milkyway
Thank you John for your kind comment on Shades of Grey.
you are welcome ✨
Oh my gosh thanks! I was trying so hard to get that little slide in there so I'm glad you picked up on the "pew" sound!! 😊
sure. send it to me 4th. 😀
Worst case, I'll bounce them out and send to you. 😀
Oh wow, that would be amazing! 😃
First I wing it and then build around what I coughed up 😀
I’m always swimming in the stream of conciousness 🏊♀️
Thanks for your comments on Lessons Learned and Winter Light Festival! I'm hoping the Willamette Light Brigade did not take too bad a hit this year due to cold/rain/snow, as I want the festival to continue! It's a beautiful break to the early darkness of Portland in winter!
Thank you so much for the lovely comment on Bosses song <3
Thanks for the comments. Digging your tracks, both instrumentals and collaborations. Some lovely sonic journeys. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with for this second half of the month.
I have seen your name and icon all over this site. Your enthusiasm is just contagious. You have been caught being an awesome person. Please keep it going.
LOL, I always try to save your stuff for last, cause it's always guaranteed to be great work and I prefer ending on high notes. I'ma listen to it all. Don't you fret, Monsieur Marius
I've been updating the cassettes listings doc with who's done what so it's easier to follow than the thread. Things are moving along!
Yeeeeee! I'm so glad you liked my HUMMUS song despite my pronunciation of the word being wrong the entire time! (Should be like HAHM-mooce) anyway, I'm about to dig into your tunes, try and stop me
I couldn't stop thinking about reverse guitar solos, so I've had a go at one! Trust me, it definitely sounds better backwards than it did forwards. I actually did it 'live' with the effect playing it backwards as I played it forwards, which was very strange...
Dear zecoop, thank you so much for all your kind and supportive comments. You really made my day!! About the sampled drums loops, that all arose out of weekly composition challenge I with an online music group called LINES. Here is the week for last week's challenge:
It's a very interesting group, and although I often feel out of my depth, I've never had anything but encouragement and support from the people there. Feel free to check it out!!
