Influences: Musical tastes all over the map - old REM, Beatles, The Ventures, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Frente, Throwing Muses, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, Echo and the Bunnymen, Regina Spektor, Velvet Underground, The Cure, Devo, Bob Mould, Indigo Girls, Laurie Anderson, King Crimson, Rush, Yes, Chicago, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Led Zep, The Jam, John Wesley Harding, Peter Mulvey, Martin Sexton, Suzanne Vega, Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson... there are a lot of musical styles in my head mixing around.
FAWM OVER!!!! - Thank you to all this entire wonderful community. You can't possibly know how much you have helped me and my entire family deal with the loss of my older brother Tom.
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
**FAWM 2020 is dedicated to my older brother who passed away suddenly on January 3rd. He is missed by many and just had to be on my cover. <3
This is my TENTH FAWM!!!! 😀
I've been home-recording music for many years, with music that covers styles all over the map.
Check out my dad's (@srcoops) and younger brother's (@guatecoop) pages! @srcoops writes a ton of lyrics and we've collaborated on a lot of songs. He's very open to people using his lyrics, and had lots of collaborations last year, so let him know if you'd like to use them!! You might see something from my son, as well (@kingofthemoose) - he has an amazing voice and love of music. He's collaborated in the past with me too, notably on 2018's "My Grandpa", which had five different Coops on it! Also check out @kovbleu and @slawbleu - they are in Treading Bleu with my younger brother and me. 😀
Oh, and I run this thing on FAWM called the 4-Track Challenge, where people mail cassettes to each other and add one track at a time. Sound fun? It is!! Let me know if you want in and check out the songs at @fourtracktape
I do a lot of instrumental music, since I don't write lyrics, so if you have an idea, let me know. I can't guarantee a collaboration will work out, but I usually do a lot of collaborating. I do collaborations as a co-writing project and consider them complete when I find the one that fits. I've had multiple versions of songs from various people, during FAWM, but the one that I end up posting is the official song, in my mind. I'm always finding amazing new people on FAWM!
I have used some MIDI keys the past few years, but most of the time, what you are hearing is me actually playing the instruments live, including drums, one track at a time. I write songs part by part and never quite know where they are headed, and very often get very deep in layers and atmospheres. I love painting with sound.
This is my 10th FAWM. It's always wonderful and something I look forward to. It's the best part of Winter! (...the only good part of winter?) 😉
All of my recordings, FAWM and otherwise, are on my bandcamp page
2012 (Computer died and only did simple parts)
(but I did get this awesome song with @seemanski)

Glad you liked my two folk tales (one is traditional "Salmon..." the other "Dragon" entirely my own. I have another trad story there too written during FAWM. "Finn McCool & the Scottish Giant"
Just catching up on some of the Lockdown songs on the FAWM thread. Loved your "Waking Up" song. Great "pop`" vibe - super twangy guitars and a sultry vocal.
We have finally been allowed out this last week for a walk. It has dispelled some of that feeling that every day is the same... and that can only be a good thing. Cheers from Catalonia.
Hey, thanks for listening. This was quite scary to just hand them the chords, lyrics, melody and my basspart and then wait and see what their contribution would be (they never heard the demo). There was no checking with me after I had entered the song so it could have gone in many directions but I’m very happy with the outcome.
Haha yes I did! 😀
Oh I am so sorry man, i I know how devastating it is to lose a sibling. It just leaves a big hole in everything. Love and peace to your brother.
I'm only getting time to listen now and comment but you're at the top of the list ....
Wow...thx the kinda words. Gotta say. love your stuff especially with the family...so nice. With all the music you did and the comments..boy your busy.
Looking forward to the collab with @aesthetic72 ...PS we grew up in the same area and had a few jams together. Great voice and excellent lyricist.
liz is a fabulous lyricist who presents the composer with problems of ambiguity and irony. how to get across the beauty created in hell without some of the ugliness of that place running off. in this case i found the key in the purity of the protgonists actions.
on trainstation people....... it is amazing how maddies lyrics allways pull the best out of her collaborators.. when i work with her i have the guitar in my hand before im finished reading the first verse. i never want to know where its going until i hepl take it there.
thanks for all your encouraging comments i am so happy that you found the the restraint
on the hardin elegy effective when i met tim i was a punk rock screaamer, and he taught me how to express much deeper emotions through a quiet subtlety. i give anythng to be able to sing as well as he did. truly a master.
im the opposite from you, and love hearing what you do..in part because i could never do what yiu do do..at least without several thouand dollars and a crew of geniuses. but i dont see a basic aesthetic difference in the work.we both put everythng we got what we do best. and i stil look forward to hearing a lot more of your owrk
Not to sound like an "expert", but those Sears Silvertones are great amps! All thouse Circuits (Fender/Marshall were well copied).
- You may like a "Variac" -- look into it maybe.
I use it on my Peavey "Butcher" (truly a touring beast of days gone by). Anyway, I go down to ~ well, well below 120vac, or as you find you like can... and get some amazing breakup at low volume.
Mine was a surplus recon off some online source for $50 ish long ago. I could use it as a "House" dimmer it's so overbuilt 😀
Yes, literally a musical house.
If I use the half stack in the basement and open the back door, the house makes for a great sound port though the back covered porch 😀
I never get complaints, - I could easily fold all the gear into one location, but, then everyone would have to make an apt to see me.
Got through a bunch so far. Are the collabs the same thing you already posted just with Vocals or is everything different music?
I have emailed you.. ZeFile 😃
Oppps .. should have realized that the "S" has to be first.
Thank you so much for your generous comments. I really appreciate them. 😀
Well, precisely 😛
hahahah that’s fair. I SUPPOSE you’re given a pass 😛
Thanks for the awesome comments Zecoop - Im glad you liked the songs! Im already busy planning the EP recording so still buzzing after my first FAWM
This week has been about rehearsals and gigs, but I will defo get something to you next week
Thank you for listening to the "Push on Through" triad of songs. I'm always intrigued how people can interpret the same lyrics in vastly different ways in their mind's ears. Sorry to hear about your brother; I lost my younger one just before my first FAWM to suicide. It can be hard, but know you are not alone out there.
I plan to take a listen to some of these tracks to reciprocate; let me know if you have a preference of songs that you want more or directed feedback on, otherwise I'll just pick the titles that strike my fancy 😀
Thanks for the kind comment on my song Tailing the Suspect. I appreciate it.
Thank you for your kind comments on my Avalon tracks. I will definitely be listening to more of your music, I really love what I've heard so far!
Got the WAV files. Thanks so much! We will definitely give you credit and post the link. The song would not have happened without your drums.
murraymichael AT prodigy DOT net for the WAV files Thanks!
Thanks for listening and commenting on Go Fund Yourself. Your drum track was very inspiring and led the song to a structure that we probably would not have found on our own. I would like to get the WAV files for both tracks we did (3 and 5). We might also want to put these out at some point if you are OK with that.
You see? Dynamic range! It was there all along! 😃
Hi there, I sent you the songs I did with Srcoops as a zip file, via Mailbigfile. Let me know if you have any problems downloading them.
"...a sweet vocal from Sapient..."
Now there are some words I thought I would NEVER read 😁 😁 😁
Thanks so much for listening!
Thank you! 😊
Congrats on the win, my friend. And I see I have A LOT of listening to do this month! 😀 Thank you so much for the support this FAWM. Much appreciated!
I kind of regret not taking on a more English name as stage name. The literal translation of my name would Mary Finch, but that makes me sound like a singer from the 60s.
Oh,and thanks for the very lovely comments on my songs. Seeing as the Coop Clan is practically FAWM royalty, it means a lot that you like my stuff 😀
Oops. I got that wrong then. Feeling a bit silly now. I am often not good at interpreting lyrics and he said something in response to one of my songs about his work so I thought it related to that.
But now you said it, of course the whole "You're fired" thing.... I never watched that show.
Hi. It would be an honour to be part of that compilation. I will send over the WAV file and come up with something to be included too.
Yes of course include both songs..I need to polish them up!!!
So give me a few days..would that be ok?
Thanks so much...
Hi there. Of course it's not a problem to put the tracks on your dad's album. It would be an honour. I'll reboot the computer and try to send you the wavs in the next day or so. (I'll just have to find them first!)
You’ve had an amazing FAWM. Bravo!!
Haha, an age old question 😝
Ooh of course! I will email you tomorrow when the hour isn’t so ungodly and I have my iPad in my hands 😁
Hi, John, thanks for doing the compilation for your dad. I might need a day or two to see if I want to polish our collab -- it was early in the month and I was still getting the hang of my recording setup. I imagine it will take you a little time to hear back from everyone, but let me know if I'm the last one you're waiting on!
Hehehe thank you Zecoop! A great learning experience!
Hi @zecoop - I bought your zeusbunch album from Bandcamp - currently listening to it, and it's really good!
You've done a great job of rescuing the recordings..!
The singing is reminiscent of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Something like Suicide (the Alan Vega band, not the act), but maybe not Suicide. It's just out of reach of my scrabbling brain...
@zecoop Yes for working against here on FAWM projects. I I actually understand this, and it is what I had in mind. The thing about this is not being able to put collab tracks into my playlists after they were done here on a FAWM project. It sounds like I would not be able to show them anywhere else but here in FAWM, and to be honest, being able to display these works to people after they are created is one of the main payoffs. I am only telling you this so you understand my position. It seems you have had plenty of interest for your drum tracks. I was interested in trying something in the context of FAWN too, but that was killed (for me) when I found out I can't show tracks outside FAWM. Soundcloud and youtube for instance would be showing it outside FAWM. It would have been fun, but if I am barred from anything outside FAWM, that kills it for me. Thanks.
Cheers matey. Natalie is such a treasure and works so hard out there. We go out and have a lovely time, whilst she spends half the week off the island in a box room doing online teaching. But boy when she sings (which she has only just developed the confidence to do) it blows me away. Really wanted to get that song done so people could hear more of her ridiculously gorgeous vocals.
And *I* can’t believe there's drums out there that can fit all my madcapped ideas! 😉
Hey, thanks for the great comment on Turtle - & thank you for recording & sharing those awesome drum tracks! Your drums really pulled the song together.
See You In the Shadows…
Ah, the power supply box...there was a day when I had one of those... It'll turn up, in time for 50/90 at least. 😀
Thank you thank you! 🥳🎉 clickety clack song next in line...
I seem to have lost the power supply. 😏
No casio this year. 😞
My most favouritest fawm! 😁 Congratulations on your spectacular win!
Awww YOU are the best!!! Xx
If she saw me walking down the street and threw a head of lettuce at my head, I would actually feel better. The scorecards are even 😀
Thanks for the shout out! Michigan seems to be teeming with fawmers
Thank you loads John! Of course, it's all about pinkie placement... 😉😂
And congrats on crossing the line! I have loads of catching up to do.
One chocolate eclair, winging it's way to you through the mail... the cream may have gone off by the time it gets to you though, so you may not want to eat it... ha ha! Thanks, you 😀
Thank you- hope you are well too. I’ll catch up on my listens for you soon. 😀 great job!
And I thought it was great too. Really liked it. Gotta run to a band rehearsal now, but will be listening to your stuff from start to finish when I get back!
Wow, that's some mighty fine Frippian guitar porn right there!
Robert Fripp uses a triangle pick?
Well dang, I feel like I need one now, and I don't even play guitar.
Thanx for your comment!
Dang, I’ve got some catching up to do 😳😀
Thanks for the link - I'll have a listen later when I'm not in the office...
My peak-REM years were pretty much '86 to '94, triggered by a bootleg tape of Fables and Pageant that a friend gave me. I fell away a little from Monster onwards just because life, but still saw them on every tour from '89 onwards. Except the last one and I'm still kicking myself about that. Just couldn't get to a gig, thought there'd be another tour, and then there wasn't...
Hey @zecoop - thanks for the message in the forum. Have just read through your list of influences, and it's basically a list of my favourite bands! Well, up to the proggier stuff. Never got my head round prog. Throw in The National (who I'm currently obsessed by), and my list of favourite bands would basically be the same!
Thanks for the link. I grabbed everything. You're awesome!
"Doorway" is truly lovely.
Mostly on the YouTubes I see folks pushing VolcaBeats into warp speed, but I really love what you're doing with it. I've been considering adding some analog instruments and your laid back tracks have made me reconsider it as a good option.
Thank you for commenting on my song "The Naked Eye" and my collab song "In Her Garden", I appreciate it!
I'm super far behind in listening...work has not been allowing it for me this year during the daytime but I can't wait to hear all your stuff once I get a chance!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear about your brother. Mine also died suddenly in 2017 and I'm not over it yet. Very tough.
Aw thank you! 😊 (Sorry, hadn’t meant to sound quite so much like I was telling you what to do 🤦🏼♀️)
Ps - glad the bends were effective!
Thanks for listening (and following in order!) - the last one follows straight as a bit of a reprise/resolve from Sheann’s Story so if you fancy listening it’s worth doing while that one still in your head 😊 Feel quite emotional after the last two!
Thanks for the offer of your ambient stems, but I've reached fourteen so I think I might be done. I'd love to collaborate again during 50/90, though.
Heya! Yeah, I'll just send him a SASE envelope, it's easier. Thanks! 😀
Coolness r.e. the fountain audio -- and I'll be sure to come by and knock on the door if I cook something up with that recipe!
And thanx for the Laurie Anderson comparison. That means a lot to me. 😀
Thanx for your comment on "The Blindfold Of Memory".
I really enjoyed working with your ambient stems. I consider you to be a collaborator on the track even though you didn't want to be listed as such. 😀
I've been remiss in listening. I shall at least correct it for a song or two now. Also, I would love to take you up on your offer. Thanks. *WAVE*
🍻 Cheers! 🍻
Thank you! 😊
"O Superman" **swoon** that song was a great discovery and split me open in the most wonderful way when it came out. I wore out that 45. It was either that 45 or the album "Audion" by Synergy on my turntable that summer. O Superman was also one of the indirect inspirations for my "I'm a Metal Man" song from last year.
Ah! Chimes. Of course, that's the telephone ringing I'm hearing.
All of those sounds blend really well together. It was worth the work - thanks for persevering.
Hey! I'm glad you enjoyed my little peek under the microscope 😀
Here's a link to the original brass fountain FLAC file, if you're interested. As with your drum loops, if you do end up finding a use for this, no collab notation is necessary.
Happy Hunting for Things to Hit!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback on the last two songs. I appreciate you helping me reframe the blips and bloops in Viriditas as something metaphorical instead of my old laptop causing problems heheh. I love that your son works with special needs populations too and has given them joy with music. It's an awesome calling. <3
Terrified?? Whyyyyyy lol, you know I barely know what I'm doing 😁
Yes, I read your liner notes. So sorry you have to go through this.
I'm glad you found a bit of solace making songs.
As I said, you're welcome on my Slack, be it for a collab or just for informal talk. ❤️
Have I turned down a collab with you in the past?? I hope not lol.
Could happen more easily if you joined my Slack. I don't know if you still have the same address ; drop me an email (link on my page) and I'll send you an invite. 😀
Thank you for your lovely feedback. I'm awfully behind with listening/commenting (as always). You're on top of my list for tonight's session. 😀
Hey man. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my stuff - really appreciated those comments! So nice to find someone who shares a fondness for over-production 😉
All set. Sorry about that.
Would you mind if I post your instrumental in my song description and have it as a collaboration so when people read the lyrics they can read them to the instrumental?
Thank you for checking out my lyrics. it means a lot that you appreciate them.
Thanks for the really kind words on my recent collab with Joanne. 😀
Thanx for your comment on our starship AI track. I considered putting in docking and crew noises at the end, but wanted to leave it open ended; "what's gonna happen?!?"
I suspect the humans won't be able to keep their hands off of alien artifacts, and then they're all doomed...
