ok so the ones marked "mix" aren't ready yet to be critiqued, right? the other ones are? I think I got it, yes? xoxos
Wolf, you were quicker than I expected 😁 I was mailing around and you already dropped a comment! Thank you 😀
Most definitely! I'm in the middle of doing about the exact same thing myself 🤣 So many piled up things never "finished" or even if the writing is all finished I don't have recordings of even a lot of my oldest songs past a 1v1 chorded out demo. I'd be glad to help!
Your email.... didn't see it?
Howdy! Are you still busy mixing? Just asking if there's something to check because I didn't come across your name in the song update thread. Enjoy your weekend!
You're welcome! We stay in touch. I've also added you to Soundcloud.
Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you enjoyed the new version of "Wrench in the works"! If this song will not be finished before FAWM shutdown, I'd upload it to SoundCloud for sure. I also wrote your mail down 😀
Sorry, that I forgot to tell you! I suffered from severe headache the past two days. Maybe too many impressions, too many mails, too much music. Just write me when your pre-finals are ready, I can have a deeper look into mix and master if you like.
Sure my ears can help to get your songs final. Just tell me which one you updated. My songs are still rough as the recordings are still going on (and most probably will for some months). I've received some new stems, let's see if two songs may "upgrade". I can tell you more after the weekend.
Thanks a lot! I have to think about your advice. On the one hand I like my work to be finished on the other hand finding nobody is always a sign that somethings missing.
I had another listen on your song. Sounds better now!
You king of reviewer! Thank you so much for your feedback and encouragement! Your ideas on lyricists are well appreciated. These two are very good.
Still dunno if "Promise" will make it on my album, since I planned to re-record at least the rock and metal bit with real guitars and vocals since these make the most difference. People seem to enjoy that song, but I'm lacking of the main protagonists. It's a bit risky to start with a lyric-collab when you still don't know if anybody will sing and play the guitars. I obviously can't 😁
Yeah, that's the trouble of a songwriter / componist who dug into production instead of learning the right instruments... Have to give the instrumental playing part to other people. Exept for piano.
Howdy, Wolf! Thanks a lot for your comment! I will have to decline your generous offer. Thing is I'm really not that interested in music and knows nothing about it. Can't invent things to say, when I haven't anything to say, can I? And I am not especially fond of receiving such comments myself. So I rode into your tit-for-tat to applaud your going and offer a tit-without-tat for those of you who really can't get enough. 😀
Yeah, that was the thing that drew me to it - that it wasn’t just a one-chance event, nor purely a popularity contest which naturally favours known faces - I like that each round is a new chance to challenge and prove yourself, and that the final picture is a much broader view of the songwriter as a whole!
So there’s four rounds. The judges will thin it out and take just 24 through to the next round (we’ll find out our ranking this Saturday). Then we write to the next brief. 9 days to submit songs, 5 days for judging each time... only 4 go to the final round, and I think that one is popular vote. (The first three rounds are judged by a panel of 4 judges.) I think the final is something like May 1st?? Are you in the fawm fb group? I guess we can share the news there as fawm will be shut down by then...
Thank you for the kind words about my music.
Hey, that’s so kind of you! It would be so great if a fawmer wins wouldn’t it? There’s a good crowd of us there it seems so hopefully a high chance for one of us. It was interesting listening to all 35 songs how the fawmers were particularly well versed in writing to a brief (and they disqualify folks who don’t meet the brief) so that stands us all in good stead for progressing. Someone commented in the live youtube party thing that there would be ‘instrument bias’ as the harp is so cool 🤣
Thanks a lot for stopping by and commenting!
Thanks for the comment on "Frawnds"! And here I thought I'd processed the vocals to hell and back. ':D
You're inspiring me to try 50/90 again. I've dropped out twice, but will give it another go. I'm a hot blooded Slav who loves to write in the cold dark of Winter, but I will try!! See you there. 😀
Thanks so much for your support Wolf! I hope to see you this sumer!
Just got back home! Yes I caught a pretty damn good tan. I look funny surrounded by all these northern pale folks!
Perfect! I'll do that tonight. I thought I'd ask if there was anyone in particular that needed some listens. Thank you for all you do Wolf!!!
Seriously, just one FAWMER making
5 post x 37 = 185
So lots of listening is going to happen
Google is wonderful....lol
Yes I enjoyed by time with your catalogue/ We both have a different flavor to our music but that is what it's all about.. so thx so much for listening
🎵🎵🎵 we are FAWMily 🎵🎵🎵
Thanks, to you too!
Thanks for your comment on'Worryin' Worryin' yeah no we didn't know each other, he's to create from two more lyrics soon hopefully hehe 😀 Can't wait to hear it. & I agree
Thanks for all your commentary and no worries on the production notes at all! I am still learning bias FX2 and trying to use what's in the VST for most of the mix. I have noticed things can be bit muddy and hearing it from someone else instead of thinking I am being to critical on myself will push me harder on mixes in the future!! Thanks again for the listens, the #tit4tat suggestions, making the forum, and your music my friend! Sorry I suck at the hashtagging too.
The after-afterparty is taking place. Why not!!
Just for the record, we're at an even 3 each (just listened to the Swine song and feel I should have listened to the earlier tries but have no memory there...). I actually joined the thread because there are a lot of names I don't know, and a lot I do, and of those latter, I lost count in reciprocating because of the two-week absence in teh middle of FAWM!
Sounds like a fair deal to me! I am checking your stuff out right now while a I have a bit.
Hey Thanks so much for the kind comments. Waving from the platform!
THANK YOU! I appreciate the advice. 😀
Thanks so much for your comment on "No Weather for outdoor games" - wow, really touched!
Hi Wolf! I posted my first original song on SoundCloud. How do I get people to listen on that platform? I’d love feedback. Tit4tat has been so much fun so far! Learning lots❣️
Thanks. I'll be under nuno-5090. Good idea with the # - I really appreciate your help and explanations.
That's great - thanks. Unfortunately I'll have to end up being under a different handle for 50/90 as it says the username nuno is blacklisted.
Thanks - that's really helpful - I have no idea how it would be possible to write lyrics, music and record in an hour. However, I'm a great believer that the best ideas come about through constraints and limitations. I will definitely try to attempt one next year. Are there skirmishes in 50/90?
Hey Wolf - can you explain skirmishes to me - I keep seeing them being referenced - What are they? where would I have found out about them?
@wolfkier , I’ve just listened several times through the extra song you’ve sent me and the story took a different turn than the one I expected. Every bit as tragic, but, if I’m understanding you, an end that your narrator feared for Mary. You use the non- lyricized parts of your songs so well, giving the listener space, just enough, to regroup and travel on. The part of the song where your narrator is waiting for her face to come to life is just brilliant, Wolf. Thank you for sharing an extra with me, and for all your generous comments on my songs. See you soon. Be well and keep doing your wonderful work.
I"m really enjoying this. There is so much to listen to and so little time... Thanks 😀
Hey, Thank you for stopping by to listen to Heartache and Tears. You're one of the few that understood the guitar was a bell I think!
This Feb was way busier than normal. I'm trying to catch up on all the listening I missed. I try to listen all the songs from the people I'm watching even if I don't comment on all of them
Hiya Wolf. There's no need to reciprocate, I just enjoy listening (although if you did want to, I guess that "Everybody's In The Hospital" is probably my favourite that I wrote in February).
Cheers to you!
Nooooooo! This is fun.
I'm just still working so it takes a while to answer everybody 😄
Yes happy to keep playing titfortat - though you've got millions of responses.. surprised you want more!! FYI some of my tracks are just little ideas but ...
Kind of overwhelmed already 😄
Didn't expect so many kind comments.
Absolutely!! I've listened to some super cool songs, and met some cool cats 😀 thanks so much, Wolf!
Yes if course I am enjoying this! Some years ago I volunteered as music reviewer and helped newcomers to raise. The only trouble was... that I had a life besides music. This reminds me of the good old time...
Just fixed all my hashtags. Oops!
Holy doodles, Wolf Kier! What amazing feedback! Thank you so, so much. I didn't know what the 50/90 was before you mentioned it, but now I've signed up. Woohoo!!! It's so great to have the support and momentum FAWM provides. I only wrote three songs in all of 2020, so it clearly works! Now... time to listen to your work!
Sure, let's do seven.
Six more for me and five for you! 😀
Thanks for inviting 50/90. It sounds scary, I just started to practice composing and recording a month before fawm, did 3 songs before signing here.
I'm totally noob at this and was super surprised that I could do 14 in here without any pre-ideas, just put some drum loops and start playing whatever.
But maybe I will give it a go in 50/90 and see how far I can go 😄
Sorry I didn't mention titcount, but thanks for listening and commenting that many tracks 😄
Hope you didn't get bass overdose.
thx for the headsup on other fawmers. I've already exchnaged with Kate. I'll check out the others!
Thanks for comments and instructions. New here and still learning stuff how it works.
@arkka is familiar yes and love his stuff but wouldn't dare to compare my stuff to his. His stuff is overall so top notch and I just push rec button and playing whatever I feel at the moment and surprising myself what comes out 😄
Thanks for all your comments! There's plenty of things to learn from your comments! I am looking forward to the final versions and all these collaborations. Nice to know that you already know and worked with some of these guys 😀
Writing, collaborating, recording, mixing and mastering all songs on my own is not possile during FAWM. That's mainly because I'm no multi-instrumentalist. These sketches were about 6-10 hours of work each - (if I were at least a skilled guitarist and singer) with proper recording, I guess about two weeks each. I don't have the slightest idea how people record so many songs in a good quality and rough mix it! Have they all gone on leave?! I don't mind achieving the goal of x songs anyway. Encouraged by lovely people and having home office, everything just went and felt right, but I'm totally exhausted and need a break! I wouldn't have won FAWM under normal circumstances.
I wished the FAWM website to be open all year long, but without uploads. This could be torn into a neat showcase of finished albums. There are plenty of people whose final versions songs I'd really like to listen to, but I still don't know how to deal with this subject. Some may note rerecord them at all, some will. I've added some people on SoundCloud and hope the best. Using 50/90 as a showcase can be a deal, but I don't know how many people feel well with doing this (as artists and listeners). I have to think about it. I signed in for the facebook group and hope, that I can show the results there.
I hope that I can make it in 2022. Enjoyed my stay here! But everything depends on my rl. Stay safe and kind regards!
I’m embarrassed to get too specific here, if you don’t mind, about my reaction to How Much I. Yes, a very high compliment, I assure you. And with Then Comes Five, it’s the sadness and regret that smacked me in the face. I will indeed listen to the additional tune tomorrow, and I thank you for that gift, but can only take so much heartwrench in a day. I’m off to sleep, @wolfkier , see you tomorrow!
Thanks! I did have to ponder on that a while as far as experimental one. I mean weird reversed or time/pitch shifts, lots of unconventional effects is mostly what I do when recording, so a fairly "straight" 2 guitar/2vocal and a harmonica layer done at once was the most experimental thing I did this year 🤣. At least the question wasn't what's the weirdest thing you did. I don't think I could of ever answered that. I do a lot of times(don't think I did any this year) just do straight acoustic/vocal but usually don't layer anythnig into that later. I've really enjoyed your stuff this year too! It's all been fantastic. Just saw I do have one more to get to though 😉
Haha, yeah, in a weird way doing nothing for several months sounds great, but of course it's never really an option, I get too restless and end up doing something anyway. It's more that I tend to focus on playing live shows and getting together the material I've already written to release it in some form, on record or just Bandcamp or whatever, and I find that to be a very different process than creating. somehow February has been sort of perfect because there's usually not much else going on, of course, now with Covid and everything there's not much going on anytime! Also I know 50 songs isn't required, it's not the number that has put me off...but I don't know, this year does feel different somehow, and I've made all these musical friends here like you that inspire me and I feel now that I'd like to keep this going so, we'll see, maybe I'll do it this time or at least hang around. Also- love the United states of Eargoggle, ha!! That's great.
Hey, right back at you, I'm o glad to have found you here, really love all your music that I'm hearing! Fawm is funny like that for me, I go through phases of thinking, well, I've heard everybody who I would probably like, I'll just listen to people I already know...and then I get reminded, nope, there's a whole world of awesome people out there. Anyways, about 50/90, it's funny, I always say maybe this is the year I'll keep it going and do it, and then I don't, but right now I feel like i haev more energy post-Fawm than I've had before, don't know why, maybe it's with the world in the state that it's in I need a release, I don't know, so maybe this is the year I'll actually do it. In any case hope to keep listening to you somehow!
@wolfkier you've been busy and I thank you. Your comments on so many of my pieces are quite thoughtful. The time you are giving all of us is to be commended. @richaaaay encouraged me to join the #tit4tat, and I'm so glad he did. I just heard Then Comes Five and must savor it for a while before Fate's A Fickle Swine. What a month you had.
It's those tunes of yours that make me!! 😝 You're the bomb! Hope you have some wonderful post-FAWM experiences and will chit chat with ya next from San Antonio! 😀
Thanks for listening to my songs "Start Walking in Your Dreams", "Amelia" and collab songs "I Can't Wait" and "Where I Want You / By My Side", I appreciate it!!
Thanks for your warm welcome and thanks for estalishing that #tit4tat idea. I like it as I get to know many profiles I wouldn't have searched for. Take your time!
Yes, I came more from the songwriting and production side. Not an instrumentalist, singer or sounddesigner for sure! Feel free to comment, but I did not mix ANY of these songs yet, because all will be re-recorded with proper instruments and vocalists. Here at FAWM my focus lies on songwriting and arrangement.
I'm so glad that I found this community, so I hope that I can be in next year. But I won't do 50/90. Arranging, producing, mixing and mastering all these songs will keep me busy for some months.
Listened to them all. I like that late 70s and 80s feel you created. The samples and use of instruments is just right. Your voice matches this style well.
No problem it’s been a lot of fun! Enjoy the hats!
Hi. I'm a little confused about titfortat - are we trying to do a certain number with the same person, or a certain number all together and numbering each one .. and how many in total? . Would you mind clarifying for me? I do normally try to get back to look at at songs from people who spare the time to comment on mine. Is this the same or slightly different. Apologies if its clear already (just somehow i've got muddled)
Thanks, @wolfkier , I wrote Bliss, Nothing But Bliss around Valentine’s Day about my husband. All true, and he wasn’t actually offended! Bonus! Yup, I’m sad to say I’m already 4 deep into your list. I’m savoring. I will definitely listen to the remaining 3. You are out of this world.
I was planning on spacing out listening to your songs but once I started I just had to hear them all. I'm now a huge fan of your work, you hit all the right notes for me lyrically and musically. Really looking forward to hearing more of your work in the future!
Thank you for all the wonderful feedback on my songs, it is really appreciated!
Thanks Wolf!! Solid songwriting from you as usual. You crank them out!
hey! i got that hi hat sample for ya. i put one with the delay on and one dry. here are the google links.
Thanks for your kind words, and I will check out the forum!
Glad you got your first taste of Furniture. Thanks for recommending me also - heading over to Richaaaay now. Hope to see you in the summer 😁
Me, again, doing my due diligence ... Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my skirmish song "I Can't Wait". I save my archive and review and consider all comments as I'm going back over my fawm songs. Many thanks to you, wk.
I'm finally catching up on all of the overdue thank you notes for having stopped to consider my song Sweet Louise. I take all comments to heart and truly appreciate everyone's comments. All the love.
Hi Wolf - thanks for tapping me up re tit4tat. Unfortunately my regular attendance here will wane over the next few days as life and work gets back in the way. Committing to anything other very occasional, intermittent listens is going to be tricky... Good luck with it though - keep spreading the love!
Wolf, thank you for your support this fawm, means a lot 😀. Singing is indeed the next step and i hope to be doing it on 50/90 this year. I at least have some time to practice haha.
You've persuaded me on both fronts! 😀
Thanks for the comments mate - lots of love, right back at you! I wonder whether 50/90 might be a step too far for me (I barely survived this FAWM), but who knows. Until next time....
Thanks! That bag of wine one I think is one of my personal favorites from this year so far, mostly because of how spontaneous it was! I think it was a 20-30 minute ordeal after I got ticked off working on something else LOL. Yeah I've still got 3 of yours I haven't heard yet. I'll get to them eventually 😉 Really loving all your stuff as well! It'll be a few days before I get really back into listening a lot, my ears need a bit of a break after a very loud month 😉
Darn it, I knew I should have done more in the Siren series...!!! Ha ha, thanks for coming back! (Or perhaps it was the Siren's lure...)
Wolf, so great doing the #tit4tat with you. Your comments were super generous and I've already learned some important lessons from you. Thank you! Your music productions are off the charts impressive. I definitely got the better end of the bargain...
I look forward to developing this friendship...
Thanks! and always happy to tit4tat ......still 4 of yours I haven't gotten to yet. Guess I should say something in that forum thread as well. I'll probably be around here at least another month or so.
Thank you for the kind words on "Mildred is Free", my music was all over the genre map this year. I'll gladly trade you 7 tracks to listen to.
