Artist Bio

It seems that I'm all about new things and challenges this year.

Thinking about music and genre, I'm kinda drawn to making weird songs, the type that sound all nerdy, but as I've never ever done this in public before I think anything is okay, as long as I get at least one... two... or perhaps 14 songs done in one month.

Well, we'll see how this all goes and which direction my head wants to take me.

And just so that you know, I'm horrified where my actions got me this time.

Almost all the songs are licensed CC BY.
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.en

I'm open to all collaborations and as the songs are licensed CC BY, you already have my permission to do anything you want with it. Check out the link above if you're not familiar with CC BY before. Simply it means that you can do anything you want with my song, even use it commercially and you don't have to license it like I did, as long as you mention me: TheSoundOf, Th3SoundOf or The Sound Of. Or you can also use my real name, just ask.

I've done my voice recordings with my phone so the tone is pretty dull, but my goal was to get the song written and the melody done and move on until FAWM is over. But some day, I'll return to the same songs and do something to them. And the early versions I think I will leave in YouTube and the better versions I will upload to SoundCloud.

I love almost all music genres. Grew up listening pop and rock music like so many other teenagers. Heavy metal also came to my life at some point. That's something you can't avoid when you live in Finland.

But when I heard the first blues songs ever in my life, big band music and swing, I was sold. Muddy Waters, Billie Holiday, George Gershwin, Glenn Miller.

Indie music, folk, neo and electro swing as well as the golden oldies are close to my heart nowadays.

Hi there - I was just referring to the rhythm of the words. Listening back and trying to remember what I was thinking, it was probably the lines "hey throw me" pause "some extra money" and the quickly delivered "you'll get back every cent". The timing and rhythms sound (to me anyway) slightly around the beat - pushing and pulling at the beat - in a really pleasing way. It sounds really natural and works well. I think I was having a day where I was listening to the rhythm of words a lot, and noticing where they were pleasing on my ears! Yours definitely fell into that category.

    Dear TheSoundOf,

Thank you fer the kind words on my songs! And I really like you too! Thank the opossum god fer folks like you who are willing to give a scraggly marsupial songwriter a break! So many people are anti-opossums. They say we are filthy scavengers and stuff like that. So, we poop in their attics. But I would never poop in yer attic!

    Your pal,
    Opossum

You have lovely voice.I love Kirkaita both ways. We had a finnish exchange student , Leena Kivisarri, live with us for a year, many years ago. Now we keep in touch occasionally. It's a beautiful language!

    Thank you 😊😊🙌💞💕

  • @hmorg  Feb 18

Kiitos kommentista! Tuo oli vähän tuommonen, syntyi todella nopeasti ja vahingossa mutta tyylillisesti ja esitystapana todella kaukana mun mukavuusalueeltani.

  • @leka Feb 13

    kiitos kuuntelemisesta

  • @dantanz1 Feb 12

Thank you so much my friend! Much appreciated! Warm regards, Dan

  • @dantanz1 Feb 12

Thank you so much. I giggled a bit- I was recently criticized for being too serious, which I thought was very good feedback. So I let myself smile a bit. A muscle that needs to be exercised more-Yours truly, Dan

Hahhh, yeah, well those blues, lounge, standards, jazz singers were doing a bit more than cigs and rye, - but, aye, anything for ones art 😀 hahhh.

  • @reklov  Feb 11

    Hi @thesoundof !
I'm done with "Kirkkaita Hetkiä" and sent you the track via email. Please give me your OK to upload it!

I'm happy being a collaborator. I lean in to my intuition pretty heavily when I songwrite (and even when I whisper). It felt like that's what you were looking for, but I'm always open to be wrong.

I think that's why I think of my part as just the whispering, though. I kind reached out with my intuition for more details and that's what I got back. I even had to sit with it a moment before the answer came. Then I was like, "Yeah, I can do that."

The whole interaction where a comment leads to collaboration happens a lot more often with FAWM than most places. It's part of what makes the place so magical.

  • @andygetch  Feb 11

Hello and that is good to hear!

  • @ustaknow Feb 11

    Welcome! Happy FAWM2021!

  • @yam655  Feb 11

Thanks for the comment on "Humorously Bashful". I used LMMS to make it. (It's not quite a DAW, but still very useful and not very resource intensive.) It's free and cross-platform and has lots of built-in virtual instruments and effects. If you want to play with it, you can find it at https://lmms.io/

  • @yam655  Feb 11

I love the end result, and the graphic you added was a great touch!

  • @yam655  Feb 10

There's no email, so I'm doing this on your Soundboard. 😀

If you want it, you got it. 😀 https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aplZ__mp1z4Vu5gIzGXv1zTJYyl... -- That's a folder of some whispery WAV files. I'm whispering the title of the file, and I think Google Drive will let you download just one or all of them as a ZIP.

I figured I'd just have each of them small and self-contained. You can pick what you want and place them as you like. If you only want the "You need an electric blanket." that's totally fine. I just figured if I was recording that, I'd provide some variation.

  • @yam655  Feb 10

I hope you're enjoying FAWM! It looks like you've almost caught up. The first year tends to be the hardest -- especially when folks arrive late. But arriving late just means you're more likely to remember next year. 😀

Weird and/or nerdy songs tend to be quite popular. FAWM seems to sort of attract a weird and/or nerdy crowd. 😉

  • @willowjean  Feb 8

Thank you so much for your kind words on "Keep Waking Up"! 💕

  • @bamsekarhu  Feb 8

Thanks alot for the kind comments!

    Ja kovasti antoisaa Fawmia 😀

  • @frey Feb 5

    Thanks for those lovely comments!!
I'd love to write more songs in Spanish but I'm used to writing in English so even though it's my mother tongue, it feels harder lol!

  • @timfatchen  Feb 3

And thank you for the comment on Plink Plonk Plunk. Now, go fer it!

  • @timfatchen  Feb 3

Go for it! We range from the strange to the strained, the sublime to the gorblimey, and there's a taste for everyone in here. Even 1 song is a victory!

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 2

Thank you for listening to my first effort!
