Hi, I'm Gabrielle! What I write is closest to filk, otherwise known as fantasy, sci-fi, and convention music.

2020 was a hot mess following FAWM, but here I am, back for year 7.

I was thoroughly inspired to spice up my profile after reading all your lovely intros, so:

Favorite weird animal: Three-way tie between pangolin, platypus, and panda. Yes, I must like the letter P. Yes, I edited this to include the Oxford comma. Yes, pandas are super weird. Fun fact - their teeth don't match their digestive systems. I love patchwork designs.

Favorite obscure internet reference: Tie between "Large generic blunt object" and "That is also my egg." Google if you must. Happy hunting!

Claim to fame: I have won one song contest in my life, in senior year of high school, at a local sci-fi convention. The topic was "Godzilla". I am still proud.

Other tidbits: My day job is at an academic library, and I have several fantasy novels in the works.

If you want to get in touch with me 'cause something looks nifty, or you have a question unrelated to my work, feel free to send me a message. I like meeting new people. Good luck everyone, and may the sporks be with you.

Thanks for the comment on The Dancers. Yeah, you have to watch out for the fair ones πŸ˜‰ I've been reclaiming my interest in all things weird n wonderful lately.

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Feb 15

Ha. Thanks for listening to my song! I forgot about the swearing at the end. I had tried recording it so many times and I was just fed up. But then I thought: that could actually also apply to my feelings about it all. So I left it in πŸ˜€

  • @e3103 Feb 11

you have a wonderful sense of the quirky AND the poetic. You may be Sci-fi but some of your lines are worthy of Joni Mitchell...
Also...thank you for your comment on my song

  • @tawalker Feb 11

Many thanks for your kind comments on "Healed By The River" - much appreciated! I'd say that ukulele is my second instrument after guitar, though I now think that mandolin would contest that claim πŸ˜€

I'm using this FAWM to generate some compositions I can use for my new "musical vehicle": an "alt/indie-folk" "virtual band" (like Iron & Wine, Gravenhurst, Hiss Golden Messenger, etc.), but with a bit of an "English twist". I paraphrase an early review of Iron & Wine ("if Nick Drake had been raised in the Bayou"): "as if Iron & Wine had been raised in the Cotswolds" πŸ˜€ Watch this space... and keep the songs coming!

  • @wingandwaltz  Feb 8

@tawny249 hi! Thanks for the kind words for Jerusalem Road!

  • @nadine Feb 7

Hey Gabrielle, have you received my mail?

  • @hazeyjane Feb 6

I’m loving these lyrics. Thanks for your words on my own song too. πŸ˜€

  • @ekunyi  Feb 5

Thanks for checking in! I am back this year, if having a bit of a rough go of things at the moment. <3 I'm excited to see your work once again!

  • @elenaduff Feb 5

thanks for your thoughts on Give me Peace my painting inspired song! You;re the only person who listened! Appreciate it! x

  • @rwhosings  Feb 4

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad my weird words resonate with people!

  • @nadine Feb 4

Hey, somehow all these email adresses disappeared from our profiles! I cannot see yours. So mine is quite obvious nadine(at)mywebsite . I'll add this onto my profile. Thanks.

  • @rwhosings  Feb 4

Thank you so much for the feedback on That Damned Owl Feeling! You made me grin so wide!

  • @leslie  Feb 4

    Fixed it!

  • @nadine Feb 3

Great to hear that my music inspired you. I'm looking forward to your ideas πŸ˜€

  • @nadine Feb 2

Badam! Our conversation inspired me for today's new tune. I gonna get a rest now.

  • @nadine Feb 2

Thanks for your nice words! Oh really, you heard symphonic influences on this rock shredder 😁 Hm I think I gonna have to write symphonic stuff...

  • @nadine Feb 1

That's the reason I ask. It's hard for me to distinguish a mezzo singing in her headvoice from a real soprano. I'll come back to you if I got some symphonic rock / metal vibes for you. I look forward to your creations.

  • @stompinmary  Feb 1

Hi Gabrielle! You are the second librarian I know on here! I am actually about to go to the library to help me with a song I want to write about blueberries and rebirth. I love that you won a song writing contest with Godzilla as the theme!!!!

  • @apolez3 Feb 1

    Hello, Happy FAWMing!

  • @cathymc  Feb 1

Welcome back and good luck! Looking forward to everything you create!

  • @dogparkwest  Feb 1

Thanks a bunch for the greeting! It makes this all feel very welcoming.. I can’t wait to experience this FAWM!

  • @nadine Jan 31

Yep, you're right - I listen to symphonic metal and rock. But it's REALLY hard to write these songs. I never succeeded, maybe I should give another try.
Feel free to write the music you like and feel. I end up doing pop, trance or post grunge - no matter where I started! Let's see where the muse takes us. I think FAWM is an excellent place to try something new.
Speaking of your music: You're soprano?

  • @nadine Jan 31

Thanks for stopping by at my soundcloud! Let's see if ANY of my songs on this years FAWN will be electronic. I'm more into pop, rock and metal nowadays. I really dig your influences! So you gonna write some folk?

  • @mlv  Jan 28

Hi hi! Very excited to get going with FAWM this year! Good to see you here, too!

  • @andread  Jan 28

Hey you πŸ˜‰ It's great to see you on FAWM. I thought of you recently when I heard about some kind of outlandish cheese competition. πŸ˜‰

  • @ineloquentsd  Jan 28

Fellow FILKer! Thank you for the warm welcome! 😊

  • @skylermf  Jan 28

Thank you for letting me know about the soundcloud link! I'll see if I can get that fixed. Great to see you again πŸ˜€

  • @hummingbear  Jan 27

Looking forward to all your songs using Oxford commas!

  • @saoirse Jan 27

I usually think of filk specifically as "nerdy folk music," but if you go beyond just folk music and think of it as just music set in a fandom or genre...I suppose that my robot love song would be kinda filk-like haha

I just always compared filk to folk, I guess. I've only seen a handful of filk performers and they always tend to be like a nerdy Mumford and Sons πŸ˜‚

  • @auditasum  Jan 26

    You too!

  • @saoirse Jan 26

I lean nerdy sometimes, it just depends on my mood! The music I listen to tends to be nerdy, but often times the stuff I write is a little less so.

Also, I've never tried writing filk...but I want to! Let me know if you need some amateur lute playing!

  • @meriamber  Jan 25

Yayy!! Glad to be back and glad to see you back as well 😁

  • @ericdistad  Jan 25

Yay FAWM! Have a great month!

  • @blueone  Jan 24

Thanks for the message! I’ve not actually come across filk before so I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with 😁

  • @feb21sundari Jan 23

Thanks for the welcome... I look foreward to hear something from you πŸ˜‰

  • @ddubbles Jan 23

Thank you for the warm welcome!! Checked out some of your songs -- you have such nice pitch! And yes, it was a kale-spinach-all-sortsa-veggies smoothie 😁

  • @heid Jan 22

Hi! Thanks for the good vibes and for checking me out!
