Hi, I'm Gabrielle! What I write is closest to filk, otherwise known as fantasy, sci-fi, and convention music. Year 6 it is!

I was thoroughly inspired to spice up my profile after reading all your lovely intros, so:

Favorite weird animal: Three-way tie between pangolin, platypus, and panda. Yes, I must like the letter P. Yes, I edited this to include the Oxford comma. Yes, pandas are super weird. Fun fact - their teeth don't match their digestive systems. I love patchwork designs.

Favorite obscure internet reference: Tie between "Large generic blunt object" and "That is also my egg." Google if you must. Happy hunting!

Claim to fame: I have won one song contest in my life, in senior year of high school, at a local sci-fi convention. The topic was "Godzilla". I am still proud.

Other tidbits: My day job is at an academic library, and I have several fantasy novels in the works.

If you want to get in touch with me 'cause something looks nifty, or you have a question unrelated to my work, feel free to send me a message. I like meeting new people. Good luck everyone, and may the sporks be with you.

Thanks for your sweet comment, and I'm sorry to hear about the kitty you loved and lost last year.

ALSO, congratulations on your FAWM win!

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Feb 23

Thanks for your lovely comment. Yes, this FAWM has basically been me working through my break up πŸ˜€ It has come just at the right time.

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Feb 22

You are too kind with all your lovely comments. It really means a lot.

  • @philkmills  Feb 21

Thanks for the "This Ghost" comment. It was certainly influenced by the cats not being here. (E.g. I can't walk past the spot where they were fed without looking to see if I need to top up a water or food bowl.) But, while I was working out what I wanted to say, I started seeing it as more general. I may re-work the last verse to emphasize that at some point.

  • @tiller2  Feb 18

I'm glad you liked the imagery and some words in "Nostalgia." Thanks for checking it out.

  • @bethyrose Jan 30

Fun to meet another novel writer here! I'm also firmly in the fantasy camp with several novels in the works. Many happy songwriting wishes to you as February approaches!

  • @robynmackenzie  Jan 28

    Huzzah! Noveling! Happy FAWM! 😁

  • @paiyatamu  Jan 28

There was a ton-o-fun and there were moments of great beauty. There was a song that made me cry because it was so perfect. I'm hoping she posts it online soon so I can hear it again. Out of respect for her privacy, I am not going to post the artist's name in a public forum where almost everyone uses aliases, but the title of the piece is "The Entwife."

  • @paiyatamu  Jan 28

Thanks for ringing the doorbell (so to speak). Sorry I wasn't home to answer it. Just got back from Conflikt 14 up in Seattle and am chomping at the bit to start writing and recording again! Looking forward to hearing your music! Woot!

  • @ayehahmur  Jan 27

Good luck to you for FAWM too, Gabrielle. And all the best with your novel writing too!

  • @momtoast Jan 27

Thanks for dropping by! Good luck to you this year!

  • @philkmills  Jan 27

Nice to see you active here! I hope you have a great month.

  • @ianuarius  Jan 27

oh yea, Stratovarius is fairly well-known, too. There's like a million metal bands in Finland tho. Too much to go through all. Haha. But if you like symphonic stuff, check out Beast In Black, Nightwish, Arion, and Dark Element. πŸ˜€

  • @meriamber  Jan 27

Thank you for dropping by my page!! I really do think I'll give into the temptation and give it a crack this year 😝

  • @jmcdaid  Jan 25

Hi! Yep, I’m going for it again. Best of luck with your writing!

  • @linzwolf Jan 24

Hi Gabrielle! Thanks for your comment. I'm a bit nerdy lol I'm a librarian and love sci-fi and fantasy novels. Only just heard about filk music a week or so ago. I can't wait to hear what you create!

  • @oddaustin Jan 24

I wish you good fortune in the carnage to come.

  • @leslie  Jan 19

I'm getting there. Thank you! Have a wonderful FAWM yourself.

  • @unkept Jan 18

Hey! Thanks for the message, and the listen! πŸ˜€

Yes I would like to write a book or... album (*cough*) of songs that fit a fantasy style / theme. πŸ˜€ Maybe this year I'll get a bit closer.

Looking forward to hearing you songs, February here we come!

  • @porkmonocle Jan 17

Thanks! πŸ˜€ We liked it too.

  • @writeandwrong  Jan 17

Haha! It pleases me that you remember last year's oracle deck! They have another similar deck out there...hmm, maybe it will be used for FAWM 2021!! 😁

  • @paulhenry  Jan 16

Welcome. I have a passing acquaintance with filk, but have no idea what the genre is like these days. Im looking forward to listening to you.

  • @metalfoot  Jan 15

    *waves hello*

  • @crisp1  Jan 15

Got a little stockpile of ideas I'm ready to get going on. Hope you have a great FAWM, too!
