Alright, cool - I do keep you in mind...even during non-FAWM. Glad you're ok and I totally dig about going haywire. *peace sign*
Just checking in with you - all good?
So, since our geeky conversation about mics and such I’ve been using a Cascade Fathead (Lundahl) for my guitars. Soooo cool. The tracks don’t need much on them. I’ve been hesitant to use them—I also have one with a Cinemag transformer, for some reason. It’s pretty much what I’m hoping for in capturing electric guitars, both clean and dirty. Now acoustic is another story. I’ve always had a secret hatred for my acoustic sounds, but a lot of that has to do with where I am recording and the lack of sound treatment. I used a CAD e100 prototype (I live kind of near Conneaut,Ohio) a few years ago and it was great, but hadn’t used it since. I tried one out last night and it was clear that I should be using those for acoustic guitars. Anyway, that’s my latest nerdy thoughts. What and how do do acoustic guitars?!?
Sorry...Butchered your name. Was trying to fire off a quick note and was a bit careless.
Hey Steffens, I posted a tune today totally inspired by you and your tracks I listened to last night. Yours are better but I had fun...
Your collaboration with the Jelly Factory was off the charts. I'm digging the JF...You guys are so good with getting a groove going. I'd love to play guitar over stuff like that.
So in your song you are playing real drums? It's sounds real but it's hard to tell. I so wish I could play some drums...Your music is really fantastic. I've got to listen to some of your other tunes. I put you on my watch list too.
Well, I don’t have any programs....uh, I guess that’s important. Like I said, I truly am a novice. I will see about the final cut
Hey steffan, I’m in a video collab and need to find out how to edit the video. Would you be willing to teach me? If it’s too challenging to teach a novice like me, I will not be offended. Let me know. I’m available most days....
Thanks again for lending your wit to my word gumbo. If you want to see how I used it, I just dropped Jonny Got His Fun a little while ago. Much obliged!
Sweet! Just say the word, brochacho - I'm there!
I cannot thank you enough for the guitar goodness of our track! I hope there will be more jelly-makin' before the month's over with. Seriously!
You'll always be a swamp daddie to me. If that's a Billie sample, I didn't know it! Grabbed it from an English bloke on freesound.org who just just mumbling "um, uh, duh, err" for several minutes and for some reason gave that a home 🤷♂️
Yes, if my lead-and-rhythm skills were good enough, I would definitely have ended on a 4 bar instrumental phrase. And I likely will once I record this as a non-live take. Thank you!
Hi Steffan. I love your influences. Turns out that "Tinnitus and a tender heart" fits perfectly as a line in song I'm working on. Are you cool with me using it? I will be sure to shout you out in the liner notes.
I have a NEW VOCAL CHAIN AND I CAN'T STOP LOVING IT.
Me > SM7B > MA5 > MC77 > Focusrite > Protools (plugis) > LA2A > Maybe NO eq on the Burr song? Or just rolled off a tiny bit of low end? But since there are only two instruments (guitar and vocal) I barely had to touch the EQ. I mostly just played with volume.
But the Ma5 and the MC77 are new purchases and I'm not even sure how to use them yet. But I think they're pretty rad so far.
thanks for the note- interesting, and yeah, you make a good point about the long-term influence, tho I guess that's not really developed in the song--maybe to do so would be another song or three, tho! Anyway, thanks, and rock on!

I've thought about using ribbons on the overheads, as I love that vintage sound, but I haven't spent enough time to be happy with the hf. I also use Audix f15s on occasion. I also like EV 635a on snares, too....so many choices, but I really like to try to get the sounds to be similar to what I hear in my head. What about you?
Hey there! Thanks for the comment. The m67s are cheap and cool. You have to mod them to have direct outs, as they are 4 in and one out. It’s satisfying to do that stuff. They are also great on electric guitars.
I will tell you my setup in a sec....the bus just came with my son
Hiya and welcome back Steffan!
Gimme 40 mins and I'll have the goods to ya!
Edit: Uh, where am I sending the goods?
The wow and flutter is all from this thing: https://www.caelumaudio.com/CaelumAudio/?Page=TapeCassette2
Can I borrow you and your guitar?
Cheers, mate. The accordion sound is an old portable air-organ from the 60s, sampled by Precision Sound. (Any time I'm tempted to get an actual accordion, I just look at the price tag, or listen to an accordionist complaining about their wrists.)
I am recovering from carpal tunnel surgery last Thursday. Does not having use of both hands preclude one from making music? Not sure. But I am sure that I'm looking forward to feeling guitar strings again.
Jesus that is the damn sweetest compliment on Snow Waffle. Thank you, epically talented one.
Hey there Steffan, happy FAWM!
Matey great to see you. Sending all positive musical vibes from Wintery England
Thanks for your response, Steffan; such a sensitive topic and so many assumptions. I'm glad FAWM is such an intensely welcoming place. I love this community.
I'm not really sure either. This past year has been rather jolting for me...and not because of or in light of the pandemic. I know I want to experiment more. Just hoping we can make some things happen here and there this FAWM and make sure any offerings I would bring to the table wouldn't clash with what you were up to. And my dude - I tip my hat to you and being 1 year sober. Props n' Pounds, man.
Yo Steffan - remember those few FAWMs ago you did a series of themes one of which was the profoundly cathartic "Drink". Are you working a theme this year?
Hey Steffan! Just 1 week till FAWM! Looking forward to hearing more from you!
With all the turmoil since last FAWM, & especially since November, it's hard to feel quite as amped up about it.
"Unnecessary creation" just feels a little less necessary than usual.
But...the artists (music & video creators, especially) are arguably the most influential modern-day philosophers, & every day/week/month/year we spend honing our craft is a day/week/month/year invested in contribution to culture, no matter how small our circle of influence.
Hope you have a great Feb./FAWM, no matter how you spend it.
Oh the kettle of squid you may have cracked open by offering an open line to your Logic imbued knowledges.
We gonna make some hipster funk indie folk tracks this year? 😀
Good to see you here!
Good to see you back, Mr Pitzel.
Looking forward to your offerings good sir. Hope everything is good in NOLA. It's been a couple years, but I'll be back there again. Nothing wrong with being an IG model.
Looking forward to hearing your tunes again. Happy FAWM!
I haven't actually, that's a good call. I'll look into it.
We'll see? The hands are a little wonky with osteoarthritis lately, F chords seem to be particularly painful for example, and the vocal chords get ragged pretty quickly it seems, but hopefully I'll be able to get past that emotionally and record something.
Oogly-boogly I can't wait to hear your wimbly-wombly. Love from the mountains.
Amen, again. I couldn’t be more disgusted by sooooo many things. I truly am trying to focus on what I can control, but some of the non-Covid issues are infuriating and difficult to take the focus off of.
I don’t do Instagram, but I can watch a few videos before they get mad...so cool. Just love your ability and humor.
Good sir - I am hoping to be able to join in this year. A lot has changed in my world. A great deal of adjusting but I'm determined. Have a great FAWM!
OMFG I had no idea your instagram was so fun (and funny)!! Happy Fawming dude!
Hey, nice ta meet ya! Your setup looks amazing! Happy FAWM!
Not sure I’ve ever futzed anything in my life before but tell me what to do and I’ll give it a try
Get ready Dr Steffers, here we go
Of any of the fellow oldheads I count on hearing this year, you seem like a safe bet, but just in case: dear lawd, I need the doctor ♥︎
Oh man, good to see you around on the forums! I’m glad and looking forward to hearing your music again. Best wishes to you!
