Influences: The Smiths, R.E.M., Cocteau Twins, Brian Eno, Velvet Undergound, King Crimson, Dylan, The Beatles, all sorts of 80s and 90s college rock, Tim Buckley, Can, Talking Heads, Todd Rundgren, Stars, Radiohead, Brandi Carlile, Wilco, Neko Case, Joni Mitchell, lots of jazz (although I can't play jazz), The Sundays, and lots and lots of musical family that never fail to inspire me: Glowfriends (Tambourina), Fiona Dickinson, Jes Kramer, Carrie McFerrin, Matt Borr, Megan Dooley, Kaitlin Rose, Corn Fed Girls, Katy May, Liz Snavely (LVNMUZIQ), and, especially, Stacy Koviak-Davison :)....the list goes on and on and on.....
I never thought it would happen, but I'm here for my fourth FAWM! I'm originally from Detroit, but I've been in Kalamazoo for over 20 years. I currently play guitar in my band Treading Bleu -- and all of my bandmates are FAWMers as well (@kovbleu, @zecoop, and @guatecoop).
In addition, @kovbleu and I have just started a brand new project: Static of a Stranger (named after one of her FAWM songs, incidentally!) which is very exciting. No recordings yet (it's very new), but we have a few shows booked in and around Kalamazoo over the next few months.
If I have a challenge for myself this year, it's probably to be a little more calm about this. In the past, I've always yielded to what I refer to as the "crushing burden of expectation"...basically the neurosis that everything I send out into the world MUST be perfect (leaving aside the fact that there is no such thing). This (as my bandmates will confirm) has caused me pretty serious stress in years past, enough to almost consider giving this up. Add all of this to my habitual insecurity and it's a pretty potent cocktail. So this year my goal is to RELAX, and let this happen however it will. WAY more info than anyone cares to know, sorry!!
In other words, let the fun begin!! 😀

Thanks for listening and happy FAWM everyone!
Thanks for listening! 😀
Thanks again for your comments and right back atcha with the musical influences list 😀
Hey there! Thanks for your lovely "welcome back" note and your feedback on "Cling!" Always mixed feelings returning to FAWM as well, I totally understand the neurosis, but ultimately happy to be here hangin' with old friends 😀 Hope it's a productive and FUN month for you!
Thanks for stopping by to listen and for your lovely comments. Can't wait to write more with the banjo!!
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Looking forward to hearing what you come up with this year!
Thanks a ton Chris!! I always appreciate you taking a listen and giving your thoughts. I was actually kind of meh about the song after I had the guitars recorded and the song structure was (to me) set. I just didn't have that special something... until I started messing around on the Hammond, and then it all clicked. I'm not sure where I'll head this FAWM, but I'm looking forward to anything you put on here. You have such a unique perspective on experimenting! 😀
Having read about your insecurities and anxieties I feel a bit better as you summed up exactly how I felt yesterday...I listened to a few songs and it kicked on hard...everyone is so much more advanced than me, knows what they are doing...I felt a phony and a sham... but today I wrote up had a first line in my head got up and wrote it down and boom I was off...I realized that I was putting far too much importantance on the whole thing. Now that I am a bit more chill I can relax and enjoy...woo boo what a relief!
Anyhow do enjoy yourself amigo..
Thanks!! I hoped you'd like it. I'm going to try and play it tonight....'cause I'm insane.
*ps I loved your updated liner notes.
Yeah, close mic-ing will settle that. Did you get a mic???
Aw man, I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear from you on FAWM. I hoped that you were in again! Yes, very ready, but not yet finished readying. You?
Yay! Excited for another year!! Have an amazing FAWM!!
I'm definitely looking forward to more innovative experimentation from you... This is going to be fun
