Josh was born and raised in DC, and likes to hang out with his friends and climb things in his spare time. He plays guitar, drums, bass, and provides some vocals in The Vico Cycle, a DC area band. He also runs an open mic 3rd Fridays of the month in Silver Spring, for which he writes a new song each month. He is weird. Normal is boring anyway.

2017: The first year, really gungho, lots of crazy stuff done. Mostly worked with Audacity as my "DAW". Win.

2018: Second year, partly on the road, switched to FL studio and more electronic stuff, but still a win

2019: Feeling pretty uninspired and busy this year. I got my one song done for the open mic (Money from the sparks), but not sure how much more is doing this time; just not in the right headspace this year I think. Anything I do this year is more "eat your vegetables" songwriting to improve my craft, but it's feeling like more of chore, so less is more this year? Maybe? Dunno. Reading the forums may make me more inspired. We'll see. Primarily worked in Reaper as my DAW this year. Posthumous win in March, I think? Can't remember.

2020: 3 month old to go with the 2 year old; but at least I'm on leave. We'll see what we do this year. Time to get to work. Testing out Logic Pro X on my gradual progression of DAWs this year. This was the year of the COLLAB. I think I only did 2 or 3 on my own for 2020. Crawled across the finish in March with one last collab for a late win.

ALSO, got my first ever album done in 2020, so it wasn't all bad! Checkit here if ya' like my stuff:

2021: Year of the Metal Ox, maybe some metal ox tunes for cowcore this year, who knows? Finally learned Logic Pro X last year, definitely going to be using that again this year. Depressed much of the time, writing lots of down songs, but some of those songs are great. We'll see what we get this year. Excited to prep my tracking space, got a real DIY vocal booth too for clean vocals, so should be a good year for music. Let's GOOOOOOO!

2021 Update: Well, it's about 3 weeks in, and work has taken over weekends/evenings for the last week and change of FAWM. Gonna have to post just lyrics and finish up in March this year it seems, sadly. Not the first time work > hobby, but still frustrating and disappointing. Gonna post my lyrics, and hopefully finish in March along with some post-feb collabs.

Ha! Glad you enjoyed it! That was definitely my weirdest moment this FAWM. 😝

  • @tcelliott  3 days

Thanks for the comment. re: super secret reference - I wish I could claim it but it was unconscious at best. But I do love how well it fits together. I wish I would have done it on purpose and I'm slightly embarrassed that I didn't make the connection on my own. Good spotting.

Hi, thanks for commenting on my take on the I hate it challenge: Aunque me quiera yo

  • @metalfoot  4 days

Century club really was insane. I don't know how it happened, other than I had way more time at home than usual thanks to lockdowns here in Canada!

  • @guatecoop  4 days

Agreed!! We need MORE live drumming on fawm. It was great to see you represent!! You showed your face, but I just shot over my head for mine. It is really compelling to watch drumming though. That challenge is a keeper for sure. The 4 track is a little different, but it has its similarities and I like that one every year, too. That was cool to see, though.

lol I really can’t stand uke in non-Hawaiian music but I try to normally keep that opinion to myself

  • @grenzgaengerin 5 days

Thank you very much for your kind comment "Troll-Trap" <3

  • @nadine 6 days

Thanks for your comment on "Nuff Said": Yes, this song has been lot of fun. I'm glad you like it since you're the only one who seems to have noticed the lyrics.

Thank you also for explaining the workflow of Logic to me. I have never worked or seen this DAW, so I don't have the slightest idea. Nowadays, music production became way easier with all these pre defined arrangements, presets, chord-progression tools, automated mastering and stuff. I'm still a bit oldschool. I write, arrange, EQ and master everything by mýself - No songwriting tools here! But I use presets, because I'm not a good sound designer at all. I just learned how to modify and layer.

Thanks so much for your generous comments on "It's a New Day" and "These Wide Open Spaces"! Yes, the New Mexico sky is magical - in different ways, it inspired both of those songs.

Oh, I'm ecstatic, take as much time as you need. how about Alternative-Rock & throw a little of this or that in it too if you want like the LMFAO OR
Joan Jett vibes!! or whatever you feel the need to do.... let me go over the lyrics again to make sure they are right, should I work on something to add or do with the lyrics for you? I just revised the lyrics some, might again, esp if you have any input on them??

  • @apolez3 2 weeks

Would you do me the honor and collab with me on > Blow my mind.... um maybe i should read them over again.. just incase.. what do you think?

  • @dzdandcunfsd  3 weeks

Thanks! and yes it was, only was intentional that time 😁

Just saw your first and favorite conerts. I caught Fighters of the Foo around 96, and then again in 08? or 09? Both excellent shows. I almost didn't go to the later one as they were playing at an infamously bad for sound venue, but they worked some sound miracles, best sounding show I've ever heard there.

  • @scubed  3 weeks

Thanks very much for the generous comment on “Meet in the Middle”!

    Hey siebass!
Glad you enjoyed my wiccan hippie Invocation. Yeah...the virtual gathering, but hey, FAWM is always virtual so this is the one slightly normal month I've had all year!! Thanks so much for stopping by. So nice to "see" all of you. 😀

thanks for your listen on 'sweet man' glad you liked the story telling aspect i'm really more of an actor so that tends to happen.

  • @dzdandcunfsd  3 weeks

Thanks! that reverse reverb on that acoustic was actually a happy accident this time. I set the tele down on the footswtich, and wasn't monitoring while recording 😁 I didn't notice as I rarely listen back to skirmishes especially before posting.

  • @nateger 3 weeks

I love that your first and favorite concerts were Foo Fighters! I caught them during their tour when The Pretender came out. Serj Tankian opened and it was awesome

  • @ductapeguy  4 weeks

Thanks for your comments on Thinkin Bout After. You have an incredible ear. Yes sort of electric uke with a bit of chorus. I recorded live off floor so Uke is coming in vocal mic, and it was plugged into roland cube amp w/ chorus and smidgen of reverb. I mixed the two to taste. The lead uke is straight from the pickup, so it has more effect on it.

  • @theodamus  4 weeks

Thank you for the awesome skirmish, your lovely comment on my first song of FAWM21, and your affirmation of my skirmish-ish result! I love that I get to spread the gospel of Pan Twardowski and his rooster on the moon 😂

  • @apolez3 4 weeks

Thanks for hosting & your comment for the skirmish 😀 Yeah I'd like to be dancing on the ceiling and squashing earth like a bug from there hehe.

  • @jorh  6 weeks

Have a great FAWM this year - very much looking forward to hearing your stellar productions! We also have a habit of getting matched in ‘ random’ collabs every year, so you’ll probably be hearing from me soon haha 😂

  • @guatecoop  6 weeks

I didn’t want to hijack the thread, but hello! Mic-ing drums is a pain. 2-8+ mics and tracks to deal with. Not to mention just keeping in time

  • @candle  6 weeks

Yeah, I keep telling my wife that lol. It will happen. Probably once the kid has moved out & I'm closer to retirement.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @tabitha 6 weeks

I enjoyed listening to DC Dreamers, it sounds brilliant. Looking forward to seeing what you write this FAWM.

  • @candle  6 weeks

The Hammond Organ is (unfortunately) a glorified keyboard stand at the moment. One of these years I need to get it fixed.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @quork  6 weeks

I have an idea I'm bouncing around that would be great for a positive collab. I'm thinking uptempo reggae backbeat and a chorus that goes something like:

    More joy
    More happiness
    More empathy
    More love

In my imagination it's a dance floor magnet that makes people smile while they're shaking it. Of course, there's a vast distance between concept and reality.

  • @quork  6 weeks

I love what you did with the tiger in the zoo. Super cool. I'd be happy to work with you on something fun. Yes, it's been a crazy year. My goal is to write positive, upbeat songs. A big change from my usual melancholy fare. We'll see.

  • @quork  7 weeks

Happy FAWMing, siebass. Hope you have a great 2021.
