Josh was born and raised in DC, and likes to hang out with his friends and climb things in his spare time. He plays guitar, drums, bass, and some vocals in The Vico Cycle, a DC area band. He also runs an open mic 3rd Fridays of the month in Silver Spring, for which he writes a new song each month. He is weird. Normal is boring anyway.

2017: The first year, really gungho, lots of crazy stuff done. Mostly worked with Audacity as my "DAW". Win.

2018: Second year, partly on the road, switched to FL studio and more electronic stuff, but still a win

2019: Feeling pretty uninspired and busy this year. I got my one song done for the open mic (Money from the sparks), but not sure how much more is doing this time; just not in the right headspace this year I think. Anything I do this year is more "eat your vegetables" songwriting to improve my craft, but it's feeling like more of chore, so less is more this year? Maybe? Dunno. Reading the forums may make me more inspired. We'll see. Primarily worked in Reaper as my DAW this year. Posthumous win in March, I think? Can't remember.

2020: 3 month old to go with the 2 year old; but at least I'm on leave. We'll see what we do this year. Time to get to work. Testing out Logic Pro X on my gradual progression of DAWs this year. Crawling across the finish in March with one last collab.

Thanks for the lovely comment on my song A Special Moment. It's appreciated.

  • @ceilidh  Mar 26

Thank you for your kind words on Spinning Fire....and your concern for our lack of raingear (we did have jackets and an umbrella, but felt guilty using brolly during the performance when I was close to the front of the crowd). 😀

Sound is a preference, and matters on what's listened. For me, first address going over 0db on listeners side, so to speak.

And, to say as well as I can for you, - I'm not a fan of reverb, so to speak/how to say that?, however I thought it sounded fine. Any more would be a "non-integrated" sound/tone serving the song. For me, I'd back off in 5% increments when adjusting things. So, *guessing here, sometimes if address the <0db thing, all else follows it. So, change 1-thing at a time.

If you have a second unit and can record, logged in, leaving it in another room so no sound bleed or feedback issues if possible, then you can see. Again, I am guessing and offering in case may assist, - not that I now for sure will fix anything.

Since, - if I listen on an iPhone lots sounds great; on the Chrome book - the worst since only responds to Hi-z only; laptlop mostly mid-Z's to high. Idealy with any of this, Headphones ... and make is a "suggestion". But then warn as well some folks may have a hot signal, so watch that volume in the HP's.

    - Bottomline, you made it fun. I don't know how long you-all went, I had to drop out.

Oh, yes, I tried to crash all on my Unit, saw the FB link grinding, had to shut it down, but the "warbles" from Inet connectivity were minimal, or "skips" (not bad) imo.

I was impressed with ZOOM and had avoided all but quick video trades (as "live" stspeak) due to all the issues. And, all right there in Chrome Browser and worked, ez. I am tempted to go back and compare tech's but who has the time do build a "Martix" of use/testing/pros/cons.

I assume you did that and so went to ZOOM? Not random guess.

    Anyway, - gud4, yah! 😀

  • @ustaknow Mar 21

    Hey, it did go perfect.

I am going to guess this following, but to my end, listening, Eric was using an iPad per his login?, they have noise gates/limiters and may be bypassed, - I gave mine away a while back so can't check. Mine did, and so does the iPhone unless you disable the background noise filter. It's a guess since he was mic'd and plugged in; then just used the iPad to capture it all as-is. The only way someone can check, is to then dial in on some other unit in the house and join the meeting from another room (avoid feedback?). I saw you had two ID's unless someone logged in as "siebass music" too 😀 hahhh. If you were not hitting "Red" on you meter, and the 2nd unit was right there? Just a guess.

Nates, - was as good as it gets. I suspect had a USB Cam/Mic only (as a guess, I left that question for him), because that's the quality I used to get to Video, (pretty good) -- I"ll have to dig it up (USB Cam) unless I can just use my DAW setup to Laptop and it broadcasts/streams OK with one of the cameras; I never know with Linux (I really don't know too, since that was a recent setup since was doing phone recordings mostly for here).

Well, everyone seemed interested with the stream quality, and that's what I experienced, and only guessing.

  • @ustaknow Mar 19

I may have to just "watch" this one, - but in the future, if holds out and you're not getting 50 applicants; remains laid back. But, glad to see it! Great!

  • @guatecoop  Mar 16

Hey there, I revised the explanation on the 5 song coronavirus challenge to clarify, as I intended to say that it is just like a continuation of FAWM because people will write their own songs or arrange collabs. Sorry about the confusion.

  • @ajna1960 Mar 15

Sent you a reply to your email. Massive apologies for delay, not been very in the here and now !

  • @dzd  Mar 11

    gave it a shot

  • @dzd  Mar 10

Thanks, actually been digging through other stuff trying to decide in this one(huge fan too) I've got another rough song pretty heavily reliant on good old 42.

    Lie awake and question why
    Always to invaritably find
I dont know a goddamn thing
    About this life universe
    Or anything
    Just fine with me
    The less I know
    The less I need

I could make it fit ....leave it it's own thing....still pondering hah.

  • @tamsnumber4  Mar 9

Thanks for commenting on my song "Erase Me", I appreciate it!!

  • @emkaydeebee  Mar 6

Thank you so much for your comment on ‘Alone’ - I very much wanted to avoid caricature, and to make it real, so I hope that’s what I achieve in this musical.

  • @ustaknow Mar 6

Hahhh, all the women I knew, until I got married, were insane 😀 fun but nuts. Some from the "Artist" side/world, others during LEO daze 😀 No one can keep crazy at bay more than a month or two, and why it's a good idea hang out a year or two. "I've gotta blank space baby..." 😀

    - Remember those are 5 min writes and somehow "spawn" from my mourning-morning-news watch routine while I shoot up coffee.

  • @ayehahmur  Mar 6

Hey, thanks for commenting on Salt Hill. Glad you liked it. It's a bit obscure, but the story is meant to be that the dead person was buried in a regular graveyard, but have come back as a not entirely unwelcome ghost to haunt the singer. The singer is promising to bury them again, this time on Salt Hill, a place they won't come back from, but they're delaying doing it. Or something like that. 😀

  • @metalfoot  Mar 5

    Thanks for the great comments!

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Mar 5

Thank you so much for your generous praise for my songs. It feels good that all the pain has at least resulted in some good art 😀 I'll be listening to more of your tracks this weekend when I'm off work! Looking forward to it.

  • @dulcimeric Mar 5

Hey there @siebass! Thanks for the comment on my song There's Always a Bigger Fish! And I'm glad you recommended me to @metalfoot, such great collaborations on their page!
I'm actually playing a solid-body electric mountain dulcimer. A little different than the Merlin but same idea. Here's a video of the electric in action:

  • @zecoop  Mar 5

And as for songs to recommend starting with? I always love the collabs... 15, 19, 21 and 26 maybe? I'm all over the place, as you probably know. So whatever tags sound good. 😀
I'll check out more of yours for sure.

  • @zecoop  Mar 5

Thank you so much for the support. FAWM was a very warm and helpful place this year. 😀

  • @ustaknow Mar 5

Hahhh, if I may say so, I "figured" you got it; - and as I do, then understand when someone may "over explain" to me, why, since, well, - while stuff seems to have tapered off "here" the past two years, we have to balance it. Folks seem "at the ready" to stoke stuff for some reason.

And, no, no particular how and why, don't feel you have to.

There's no way it's 2:1 ratio either 😀 hahhh. Not even close if generally speaking.

One or two members I watch/feedback-comment, - just does not comment, just how it is and that's OK. Plenty friendly, and etc., just does not comment.

Happy work day! Spring is here.

  • @audrey  Mar 5

Thank you for your kind comments on my songs Don't Get Caught and Time to Shake Things Up. Much appreciated.

  • @ustaknow Mar 4

😀 yeah, I never intended, or anticipated any discussion on that. Silly me, aye! I just didn't want, as has happened, - all of a sudden un-zonged with a "all righty then" comment to "un-zong" it as a "do guder" 😀 task who would otherwise never comment/respond to me otherwise (ironic, yah know 😀 ). As you know, - I get that thesis, and do appreciate it's done and I don't get the huge thread of "stuff" since, well, I as well see folks whom only want comments from certain others (?) and stated in fact as that - lets get complicated! Oki doki, and fawm-on! I'm glad for that Thread nonetheless, to then be mindful if "that", indeed and stay away as well as I can.

It seems if even one authentically comments, "hey, leave me out of this, please" the duplicity can be so sticky regardless with all the OCD Reading *into stuff, it almost kills FAWM and actually has driven many away in the time I've been here, - with the annual (forced?) Thead blowups with all the usual suspects (copy and paste year to year), showing up on cue, - why? (rhetorical)

And, so I go 😀 and remain too! 😉

I don't understand why that 14 song comment was there and don't read stuff like that or even in fact revisit many/most threads once posted unless I am quote in 😉 hahhh!

Anyway, Happy FAWM2021 to you! I hope DC remains safe for folks in the coming months. Good luck with the NewBorn! I hope you have you're annual fawm-gathering, open-mic down there. Hahhh, one day all the folks whom the others dislike will show up at one of those, 😉 - then what? Funny to think about, esp with the FAWM-over at that Camp in MD. Imagine me bunk bedding with..., and I sleep naked too!

  • @metalfoot  Mar 3

    Whichever you like 😀

  • @highmountain Mar 3

    Always suspect the coffee machine!

  • @metalfoot  Mar 3

Hey-- just checking before I read through/comment on your lyric-only songs; were you planning on adding music yet in March or shall I take them as-is?

  • @highmountain Mar 2

Howdy! Thanks for dipping into my Pool of Blood. What you heard in the background could be the dripping of three alternating "coffee shop" percussions from my Garageband. Or maybe the one repeated note on a synth called "emotive melodies". The turkey thing was pure impulse, my inner turkey, at last, breaking free.

  • @ajna1960 Mar 2

Hi Josh @siebass , I think I'd love hard rock for the Murderer one if that's ok please? 😀 I will add you as collab thingy now 😀

  • @dragondreams  Mar 2

    Hi Josh. 😊
Thanks for listening to Julie's egg timer! And thanks for the lovely comments. Currently in transit, but I'll be repaying the favour later. 👍

  • @katmtl Feb 29

Hey there! Thank you for listening!❤️❤️❤️

  • @sph  Feb 28

Hi there, here's our random collab:
    Hope you like it

  • @sph  Feb 24

    No real preference

  • @sph  Feb 24

Hi Josh, where put together via random collab. Do you have lyrics for me?

  • @jorh  Feb 21

Avant garde works for me, it really suited the track 😀 honestly I thought it was great - original, in trend, vibey 👌

  • @jorh  Feb 21

WOW! What you’ve done with wandermust is superrrr cool!! I love the intro it set the tone straight away and was relentless till the end. I like the chant like quality you have brought to it (like a conductor talking over the radio to the passengers) mixed in with the more rhythmic elements/vocals. Also the outro is cool, reminds me of the sound of stomping feet leaving the destruction behind. The production is crazy good as always. Thanks for collabing 😀

  • @quork  Feb 16

Good to see you too, and I have no doubt you have many irons in the fire.

  • @jorh  Feb 16

Yes kind of dark electro-rock. Heavy on guitar/bass but with them big pop hooks that grimes is so good at. I was hearing a sound like some of the songs on her new album e.g ‘my name is dark’, ‘violence’ check them out and let me know what you think 😀

  • @quork  Feb 16

It looks like there are a couple of people seeing what they can do with Yeah Baby, which is probably plenty. I’ll let you know if that changes, would love to hear what you could do with it.

  • @jorh  Feb 16

Think someone else is setting ‘what do you do?’ to music but can always ask if they’re ok for us to do a second version, I’m sure it’d be fine.
Also if none of the lyrics are taking your fancy at the moment there’s no rush - you can wait and see if there’s anything else you like later down the line 😀

  • @jorh  Feb 16

Ooo having listened to The KonMari method you might prefer to have a go at “wanderlust” I was imaging a Grimes-type of song whilst writing it with a slightly lighter chorus. Think you could do a great job on production. Maybe have a look at both ‘For you’ and ‘Wanderlust’ and see which you prefer, if any? 😀

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 14

Wow! Love it! Fantastic rocking groove, awesome chords and splendid vocals! This sparkles and I am so grateful for your music!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 14

Thanks! For FAWM Kahlo is fine or Elizabeth Petty

  • @jorh  Feb 13

Soundsss good 😀 all my songs are a bit sad this year ha but ‘for you’ has a nice message - there’s one swear word in post chorus but more that happy for it to be removed! Tbh I’m happy for you to choose any song if your prefer an alternative one though

  • @jorh  Feb 12

We’ve been paired as random collabs- it’s becoming a yearly tradition now! Happy for you to have a look through my lyrics and see if you like any or can write something specifically if you have a preferred theme?

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 7

A lift- like a little bridge moving from verse to chorus - often used a transition

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 6

    How about this one?

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 5

Oh ignore that one below if you haven’t already started as it seems someone else is doing it - I’ll write some other lyrics and send your way!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 5

Here is a quirky rock or punk lyric I just wrote...if this does not work for you, no worries- I’ll write another!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 4

Hi! We are paired for the random pairing. I am happy to send you some lyrics. Let me know if there is a theme and/or a style you would like me to write for. Or if there is an alternative approach you would like to take, let me know!

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 2

I think you're going to have to email me the lyrics...I can't access them.

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 2

For whatever reason, I can't seem to get into the song.
    Not sure what's happening.
I just "watch"ed you, but maybe you could remove me and then re-add me to the song?

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 2020

Woohooooo!!! Ok. So, I have no theme request necessarily...maybe something to do with motivation or pushing through.

Something to help us get motivated to finish FAWM?

Also, if possible try to keep the syllable length of verse lines similar.

Or ignore all that and crank out whatever.

    Let’s have fun!

  • @quork  Jan 2020

Hello! Hope you have a great FAWM 2020.

  • @jorh  Jan 2020

Have a great FAWM 2020! I ended up dropping out a little early last year and never got to say what a fab job you did with our collab ‘a beautiful generation’... the production was ‘WOW’ and liked the extra lyrics you delivered on the bridge. If you wanna collab again this year hit me up 😀

  • @pfoo  Jan 2020

Hey Josh! Happy FAWMing if you are around this year!

  • @metalfoot  Jan 2020

What's new? Hope you'll be having fun this year with us!

  • @tsunamidaily  Jan 2020

have the best FAWM this year!
