Influences: My father. Joni Mitchell, Rhiannon Giddens. Dan Fogelberg, Mary Hopkins, Kate Bush, Celtic Woman, Allison Kraus, Blackmoore's Night, Joan Baez. Musical theater. Storytellers - I'm awful with names. But I remember the music!
This will be my eleventh year doing FAWM (missed one when I was moving). I've no idea how this FAWM will go. I've moved to Mexico, but will be making frequent visits north of the border to spend time with my family who are still in Reno and the Seattle area. (If these restrictions ever end!) I'm trying to settle in to a very different culture, putting a house together. I came with two suitcases, which at least contained my computer and a microphone, and my little ukulele, which I still can't play well, but I love it anyway!
My house is big and echoey, which will either be good or bad, and during the daytime there are the sounds of horses clip clopping on the cobblestones, dogs barking, roosters crowing, and cohetes exploding, as well as mariachi music and workmen remodeling... I expect I'll be doing a lot of late nights if I want any quiet at all 😉
The internet here is abysmal, which could make skirmishes more of a challenge than they already are, but hey,
I'm just here for the fun and inspiration!! Should you wish to join me in a collaboration just let me know. I only ask that I get a copy of the music file sent to my email, as well as any mixed with vocals. Hope that doesn't discourage anyone 😀
Totally open to after FAWM Collabs as well!
Oh, and by the way,
It's Sheila - Sheiler K
Christened by East Coast friends
Who can't pronounce A...
(at least, when it comes at the end my name!)
Somehow an R seems to slip in there uninvited 😉

Thank you, Sheila. <3
Sheila!!! Wow! Thank you SO much for listening to every single one of my songs. You win!!! I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. It's been a crazy busy March. Couldn't be more opposite from February. I'm grateful I had the time in February that I did. Things are getting a bit back to normal-ish, so I'll try to spend some time this week listening to your songs and spending more time back on FAWM. I've signed up for 50/90 - so we'll see how that goes! Anything to get me focussed on writing some songs is a good thing!
Thanks for the comment left on 'We are called POLY' I'll let you know if it gets created 😉
Hi and thank you for your input on "A...A...B...B..." It was fun to write and share the skirmish with lots of great writers. This also reminded me of jumping rope (which probably isn't something I'd do very well these days, but still ...).
Thanks for listening and commenting on my collab song with kristi "I Can't Wait", I appreciate it!
Thank you for welcoming me to FAWM. My friends ductapeguy and crutherford encouraged me to write songs, and join this group. It has been a bit overwhelming, but great fun and learning. All my songs are about me, I guess, so that led to the cover photo. Glad you liked it.
Much obliged for the kind words on "Julian" and "Camp Meeting". I must confess to playing only a small role in the latter, but I still appreciate you giving it a spin. And your comment on Julian definitely hit home. I'm sure it will be a joy seeing him soar, but it's still tough to know I don't have much time left with him in the nest. 🙂
Oops, I double-dog thanked you.
Thank so much for the very kind words on "Camp Meeting". Wasn't quite sure that one would fly, but had to get it out there for some reason.
Thanks for all your visits, Sheila! 😀
Hoping your friends pull through better then ever, xoxo
7 smiles for you. Thanks.
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Sheila, your comment on The Ballad of Johnny Jones. I mucked up the first recording(voice was okay but instruments went alien) and had to reosing, desperately listening to the first version. So I wasn;t bound up in new creation and could actually take note of the words.... I got to "yeah, he died in the summertime
when his heart gave out on a 12 hour work-day" and almost burst into tears. It was all I could do to finish the recording. So yeah, me too...@heavyhedonist has a way with words...
You're on! and perfect timing since I have some immersion time now. 😀 here we go...
Thanks for the very kind words on "Camp Meeting", Sheiler...I mean, Sheila.😇
Ah you got there!
Are you putting music to all the later ones?
Btw, in my hurry to get "Cat Food" up, I forgot to thank you for the kind comment on "Vista". Thank you very much for that. 👍
It's up! Thanks for helping me sneak that one in under the wire. 😀
How should I credit you on the Soundcloud page?
EDIT I think maybe I should have sung the "well supplied" chorus during the earlier doubled up chorus. Unless you feel strongly otherwise, I'll probably give it another go tomorrow.
Congratulations reaching 14 and beyond! And thank you for your support this FAWM. I appreciate you so much!
Thank you so much for your kind comment on 'Loss' 😀
Hi Sheila, thank you. Didn't my reply reach you?
Thank you so much for your kind comments on 'Gucci'
Puppies, like you said, are extraordinarily charming little 'hellions'. Beagles are little cats disguised as dogs, fiercely independent, don't care one bit about what you think and absolutely merry little souls do what they want to do 💜
Thank you so much for your appreciation of 'Escape Together' and the kind comments 😀
Hi Sheila, so sorry for the delay. I'll email you shortly.
Thank you so much on commenting my first try on Cohen. I am still unsure whether I should finish this work and ask some vocalist. If someone came around I'll let you know.
I'll be thrilled to collaborate with you Sheila. Looking forward to collaborating on 'Enchanted Mermaid'.
Please let me know if you would like me to send you Wav or MP3. Thank you. Please pm me if you like, I'm not sure if the address I had for you is still the same.
You are very welcome Sheila. The title is great but the most important part is what you've created and it's a real gem!
Thanks so much for the very kind comment on Hold Your Brother’s Hand. I loved your lyrics on that Faerie Ring song!
Thank you so much for your appreciation and kind comments on 'Forever' 😀
Just posted "The Faerie Ring" - Hope you like it.
Thank you for your wonderful comment on 'Indian Summer'. Interesting, I - like you - have always had a special feeling with regard to Native Americans (and in my case, First Nations people in Canada). So imagine my surprise (and delight) to discover in my genealogy journey that in fact my maternal ancestors include an X-times great-grandfather who was an Anondaga Iroquois, and who played a pivotal role in the peaceful outcome of the 'Beaver Wars' in the 17th century. 😊
So nice to see you! Thank you for your kind comments 😀 I didn't know you were in Mexico now, I hope you are enjoying life there! Madrid is awesome, now I'm just waiting for Covid to go away so I can start making friends and stuff!
Will give "The Faerie Ring" a spin tomorrow. Bedtime here. Bona nit!
Glad you liked "The Strangers" and that you saw through the surface to what the supernatural (and the song) is really about.
Hi Sheila, thanks for comments, pressed right now but I GET THREE DAYS from tomorrow and can write and listen again. My 10-day FAWM...(I wanna be Dragondream's Cat)
Thank you very much for comment <3
Happy you liked QB's "Cheesy Little Keyboard" She sends you this: 😘
Thanks Sheila 😀
Thanks for commenting on Before You Miss It. As you noted, these crosses are so common but often overlooked. After reading your bio you might like Key West Bound.
Thanks so much for your comments on Sleep Like a Baby! I really appreciate it!!
Thank you for your comments on Downstream. I'm hoping you will post an audio song--I'd love to hear the horses on cobblestones. It's a lot better than the sound of my husband on a conference call...
Enjoy your home in Mexico!
Puts on an Inspector Clouseau accent: "Ah, I knew not of this "Parler" of which you speak".
On learning Spanish. Send me an email (see my profile ) and I'll send you an oral only Spanish Course (taught in English) that is great for foundation students.
Hi, thank you for commenting on my song Cumpleaños, and you are right this was actually my gift for her first birthday 😀
Oh my goodness. Mexico now? 😀 Great to see you again, Sheila, and I wish you joy and good health in your new home. 😊
Great to see you around. Good luck in your Mexican adventure. Once you get the hang of the language you will really start to settle and then you will eventually feel at home. My advice is to integrate with the locals as much as possible and avoid "ex-patriot Americans" like the plague. It's great for both your language skills and your sanity. Also it helps to accept the other culture rather than question it. My dad lived with us for months, but just couldn't adjust to the different pace of life in the small town I used to live in. He also didn't pick up the language because he was fighting it: "Male and female words, what a stupid idea!" "Why do they change the endings on the bloody verbs? Why don't they just say "Yo trabajar, Tu trabajar, El trabajar...." etc. Celebrate the differences and enjoy!
Your comments on my scifi concept album are so greatly appreciated! Thank you. I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying listening!
Thank you so much for you kind comment on "Candles". I appreciate it even more now that I know how precious internet time is for you! 🙂
Thanks for your comments!
Hi Sheila, so nice to see you again. Thank you for your beautiful comments on my instrumentals. Your support is very special.
Thank you for you lovely feedback, Sheila. 😊
Thanks for your kind words on Let's Go To Mars Sheila!! Yeah I get the whole thing about science for science's sake and not knowing what cool stuff we may be about to discover. I just feel we are rapidly approaching a point of no return right here on our (currently) viable planet. If we screw this up it won't matter what we discover while driving around on Mars!
