FAWM 2020
This year, I want to write an album about childhood. Not an album for kids, but one that captures the pure joy and magic of being a child - when everything is new and exciting and lovely. I’m compelled by this topic, because I think it’s something we can easily lose in adulthood, but I think the pure wonder is something worth holding onto.

I’d also like to finish up some songs that aren’t quite down for my current album. Here’s the first single/music video from it:

Planned to participate but then got sick and struggled with the song ideas I had come up with.

FAWM 2018
I have had songs living inside of me in the form of both pain and joy for quite some time, but without a deadline, it has always felt like I'll get to writing them when I feel ready or when I get the perfect song or idea. This challenge forced me to organize my feelings and ideas into a cohesive story and to actually write the songs. It has been so exciting and healing, and I am deeply thankful to have the opportunity to share those songs with you!

For this challenge, I decided to try write a concept album that would be organized into an A side and a B side - ya know like the old days of records and tapes 😀 I think I would like to call the album Through My Eyes, because I felt the need and the desire to share this story from my side - a chance I hadn't felt I had before. And as I've been working with the songs, I feel like I like that title even more because of how the songs really delve into the idea of perspective - how it varies depending on time, place, who you are, who's influencing you, etc. I'm excited for you to hear what I've been working on!

Hi Sarah. It looks like you're already set to collab with @metalfoot on "This Cruel Game", but would I be able to compose my own music for it regardless?

  • @songwritingzen  Feb 17

Hi Sarah, thank you for putting up the collab on "Don't Let It Be Too Late" I'll send through a draft for you to check out in the next couple of days. I'm out of town for work at the moment. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten you or the song 😀

Thanks for your kind words about "The Boy Next Door". But I'm afraid you give me too much credit! There's no understanding behind my choice of chords. Though now, of course, I'll be claiming there is!

Hi Sarah! I saw your forum post about writing a song together and will repeat my reply here that I would be honored to collaborate with you. I am flexible on how it can work and I do not have any expectation of income, success, or collab outcomes from my songwriting. I'm here to learn and have fun. You suggested sending ideas back and forth. A few times I collaborated with someone where one of us sent a list of ideas and the other picked one of interest. Others where myself and the other writer each developed several quick ideas and mutually decided which one to go forward with. In FAWM and 5090 there seems to be lot of one person starts-the other finishes, performs, records, and posts collabs. Maybe you send me a song start (just lyrics, just music, or a partial song) and I finish it or vice versa. Maybe I can be a voice in one of your songs, or you in one of my story arc ideas. 😀 Any preference for communication?

I find it excellent how you're writing a concept album about childhood! I always get nostalgic when thinking back to when I was younger and I seemed more naive and optimistic back then.
Looking forward to hearing your work.
