Artist Bio

Influences:   Immortal, Emperor, Solstafir, Wolves In The Throne Room, Me and That Man

m/ >..< m/

1987: I bought my first guitar and the Cherry Lane tab book for Metallica's Master of Puppets. That's how I taught myself how to play...

2006: I got into the home recording game and wrote an EP based on The Endless from The Sandman comics. Lord help us all, but I actually gave Neil Gaiman a copy at a con later that year. He was very polite about it. Bless him. For it was truly awful.

2008: I found FAWM. Hurrah! πŸ˜ƒ

2011: Put out a first metal album under the name Abomnium. It had a spoken word bit from @dasbinky and @devin, and lyrics from @debs and @negasi.
Stylistically it's all over the place, but I still love it.

2013: The second Abomnium album, Coffinships, came out on UKEM Records.

2014: I went to Skyhammer Studio in the wilds of north-west England to record the 3rd Abomnium album, Solace for the Condemned, under the watchful gaze of the masterful producer of extreme metal, Chris Fielding

2017: Back to Skyhammer for the last (for now) Abomnium record, A Hollow Path. Finally I knew what Abomnium's music sounded like. Unfortunately it went out at a time when the label was really struggling, so got pretty much zero promo and so tanked. Oh well. I think it's aces πŸ˜‰

2018: @gordon and I teamed up under the name Bridge11 and released A Blue Dot - 76 minutes of whacked-out space rock. I learned sooooo much about mixing and mastering doing something not-metal where every note counts!

2020: Who knows? πŸ˜ƒ

Just letting you know that DD has recorded the Teddy Bears Trip On Acid song πŸ˜€

  • @candle  Mar 9

Hey Peter, thank you for all the listens & the great comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the journey!

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @effigee  Mar 5

Haha just read the other comment tooβ€”a friendly dog is possibly the BEST way ever to describe a piece of music!

  • @effigee  Mar 5

Thank you!! I appreciate your comment πŸ˜€

Amazing output this FAWM...took a cursory listen and I can’t wait to dig deeper! Epic tracks.

  • @emplate Mar 4

Thank you for your comment on "Kullervon perintΓΆΓ€ kantaa"! And thanks for the kind words on the vocals : ) In that one part I tried a new approach to myself with a more of a shouting style instead of growling. It wasn't yet quite how I would've liked it, but I'll have to just practice it. I wish I could do same kind of "epic" shouting as Nergal does at the end of "O Father O Satan O Sun!"

One of those slower parts actually surprised myself a bit, as I thought it kinda sounded like Emperor or Arcturus which was not what I intended. Don't get me wrong, I love both bands, but I didn't figure it would sound like that when I was composing it : D

  • @zecoop  Mar 3

That was completely unexpected and fantastic... Gotta say it again. Well done!!! πŸ˜€

  • @gm7 Mar 3

Thx for the kind words....seems as if my links are in conflict.
I tried to fix it on soundcloud but it doesn't seem to have workedπŸ˜’.

  • @candle  Mar 2

Well you certainly fooled me. That's a great guitar tone!

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @gslade Mar 2

Haven't heard of Conan (other then O'Brien and the Barbarian) but it sounds worth checking out. Who's on your playlist right now anyway?

  • @heuristicsinc  Mar 1

Thanks for your comment! I have to admit I can grok synths but I have not the faintest idea what to do with a guitar πŸ˜€
Now I gotta hear more of your stuff from this year.

  • @metalfoot  Mar 1

Ran out of FAWM but maybe next year we can do something fun together again (fond memories of Helga...)

  • @victoriavox  Mar 1

Woah! Look at you go with 19 new tunes!! Wow! And thank you so much for your kind words πŸ˜€ πŸ™πŸ»

  • @judypie  Feb 29

Hahahahaha well.. no 😭 I’d already started writing the song that @seemanski said I HAD to do to get a double fawm when VV sent me his to play with so I’m KNEE DEEP IN IT NOW SO I HAVE TO FINISH IT!!!! 😭😭 BUT, I think I’m less than 30 mins away which means.... I CAN EAT SOON!! 😁

  • @hmorg  Feb 29

That's a damn shame. Do you have a contract with the label that prevents you from offering it for someone else to release?

  • @judypie  Feb 29

Hahahah, excellent! You GO GIRL! πŸ€ͺ

  • @judypie  Feb 29

    You won! Well done 😁

  • @johnstaples  Feb 29

  • @johnstaples  Feb 29

HA! Thank you for listening to Peace And Love For Everyone! You do know I was thinking about you when I did that one, right? Ya think I got that authentic Beelzebub sound down? 😁

  • @judypie  Feb 28

We were trying to channel you when we were trying to scream Sapient! πŸ˜‚ Forgive my attempts 😜

  • @hmorg  Feb 28

Thanks for the comment! This year I've been massively gravitating towards metal, which is to be expected, I guess, since I've been playing in bands for 20 years and all the bands have played metal in some form or another. Past years, I've tried to branch out a bit more and have a couple hard hitters among the eclectic mass, but this year I just churned out black metal and death metal. And I think it's relatively uninteresting for the average FAWMer, so I'm glad there are some who appreciate it.

By the way, I checked out that last (for now) Abomnium record and I was blown away. Is it out on vinyl?

  • @gslade Feb 28

Man I fell way behind on your tracks. Shit. I'll catch up.

  • @mariekevinkmusic  Feb 26

Dank je wel voor je complimenteuze reactie op mijn liedje! Now that FAWM is coming to an end, I can hopefully spend some more time listening to other people's songs so I'll add you to my list πŸ˜€

  • @mikeb Feb 26

Thanks for the comment on 'Goodbye Death'. You caught me LOL, definitely a child of the 70s rock sound, when I play electric!

  • @meatcoup85  Feb 26

Thank you so much for your kind words and recommendation! I have been dipping back Into this kind of music on and off so it’s so nice to hear it is enjoyed! I shall be checking your tunes out shortly!

  • @tomslatter Feb 23

Thank you for the words on the thing. The chords at the start of Collateral: Starts with a F# with the open B and E strings. Then a riff that goes F# A# G x3 then F# G. It's three bars of 7 and then two 4. Does that technically make it 29/4.... that seems unlikely. But it is a prime number.

  • @kristian  Feb 22

You’re just making that up πŸ˜‚

  • @candle  Feb 22

I'd buy an album of your Black Country stuff. And I think there's lots of other people who would too.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @drumblanket Feb 20

Never heard of Solstafr or whatever.
To be honest, as far as beginnings to a song go, I find them to be the easiest part of the song. It just kind of happens. I dont usually record something unless its really eating at me to record it. Like the song will stick in my head over a period of months or a year or so and then I finally just record it. For me, The best way to record a song is to just let it happen naturally. Otherwise, Youre fighting yourself and thats a battle you cant win.

  • @sbs2018 Feb 18

Thanks so much for your comments on β€œGalaxy’s Edge.” It’s all about the beat for me - lol! I use a combo of loops and programming using keyboard-created piano or synth riffs and some drum programming/sequencing. What I start in GB, I then take into Logic Pro for production.

  • @dasbinky  Feb 17

Sweet, you've got that shit dialed in!

  • @ryako  Feb 17

Hey, nerd! Thanks for the comments! Hope you're doing well, dearie.

  • @dragondreams  Feb 15

    Thankee kindly, sirrah! πŸ˜€
I got Air Strike 2. I've been waiting for it to drop from Β£99 for ages. And spotted it today for Β£29.99.
I had a free copy of the first version with an audio interface that Amanda West bought (she didn't want the drums so gave me that copy). I lost the license when my computer crashed. I liked it and have been almost pressing the "buy now" button on it for about two years.

  • @zecoop  Feb 15

Thanks a ton for such a nice comment and for listening. The acoustic was my 12 string for the extra ring. I mic’d it was an Audix f15 thin condenser about 2 inches above the 12th fret, pointed at a 45 degree angle towards the sound hole (parallel with the neck). I often will use two f15’s and go XY stereo at that location so the other points towards the tuner direction, if the song is sparse. Pan that wide and it sounds huge. 😎

  • @dasbinky  Feb 15

Note: despite years of childhood piano lessons, I am essentially non-functional on piano. But I bought EZKeys, which is like EZDrummer for piano. It's killer.

  • @chriddof Feb 14

Ta very much again for the comment, on "Industrial Intermission". Quite pleased at invoking a numbers station vibe there, and that you found the last bit amusing!

  • @keithcuts  Feb 12

I hear you are go to guy for metal around here πŸ‘ I’ve been a fan since the easy shed tribute. If you are looking for a metal collab with lyrics and voice by me I’d be interested. Let me know thanks 🎢

  • @oddbod  Feb 11

I see you have a medal too
A bit blingy for my taste

  • @uonfsofficial Feb 11

    Dear Associate of the UONFS,

Thanks to your efforts we have discovered the treacherous plan of the terrorists who call themselves SOCAA. Their hideout has been raided. Their computers were confiscated and the terrorists have been liquidated and their remains were fed to dogs. Their children are taken into custody by the Ministry and will be placed into our Citizen Rehabilitation Program. They will become proud members of our fine Federal States.

Please accept the highest ranking civilian medal a non-UONFS person can achieve. Wear it with pride.

    Thank you,

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • @howthenightcame Feb 11

Yeah, utopia banished is sick. Although I think you must be a youngster - I started with Scum!!

  • @negasi Feb 10

Thanks for the comment! I felt particularly inspired (and I've picked back up reading in the last couple months and gone through countless fantasy novels. That and listening to Assassin again and boom, back into metal I was.) Seriously thanks, a comment about metal lyrics feels even better when its from the Master of Metal <3

  • @emplate Feb 9

Those are fighting words I hear!

I guess I'll have to give a chance to older Doctor as well at some point so I won't get myself into further trouble : D

  • @negasi Feb 9

Hello good sir! I have to catch up on some of your songs! I was listening to Assassin again and between that and listening to you/some other metal, I've written another metal lyric! Hope you are doing well <3

  • @brandondale72  Feb 8

Thanks for checking out my collab! Appreciate the visit!

  • @dragondreams  Feb 7

Thanks, Peter. That's very much appreciated. πŸ˜€

  • @gslade Feb 7

Need more bro. Bring it on

  • @heuristicsinc  Feb 7

Hey, want to do a song together again this year?

  • @chriddof Feb 7

Thanks for the comment again! The dog in the song is rather more polite than the human, I've just realised - he didn't turn into a white noise monster when faced with the prospect of no Mighty Mouse...

  • @fulanin Feb 7

Hey! Just to let you know that Sylosis just released a new album πŸ˜€

  • @dragondreams  Feb 6

Oops. That's another sorry, Peter! My folks are both ill and my free time is pretty much zero so I've had to call off the house party. πŸ˜•

  • @dragondreams  Feb 6

    Sorry. 😳😳😳

  • @bootlegger Feb 6

I am ashamed of myself. I went looking through my watchlist looking for you to see if you had put anything up yet and discovered I somehow didn't have you on my watchlist. The ugliest of ugly oversights that has since been remedied. Can't wait to see what you come up with this year!

  • @iwilleatyou  Feb 5

Gasp! Shame on you! Fix it this instant! πŸ˜‰

  • @socaa Feb 5

Concept reply: How dare you? Did you not read the liner notes about commenting? You could get us all killed!

  • @emplate Feb 5

Glad you enjoyed it! I've played already couple of rehearsals with them, and it's been a blast!

  • @emplate Feb 5

Thank you for your kind comment on "A Frozen Glance"! I'm glad I can serve your desire for raw coldness! : D Speaking of that, a shameless promotion, on the account of you potentially being interested in this kind of stuff : ) I recently joined a band which I had in mind when I composed this track. There's a new demo tape coming out, check out the preview track if you have interest and time : )

I'm also looking forward to more atmospheric black metal stuff from you, always enjoyed your output in that department!

  • @odilongreen  Feb 5

Thanks for the welcome into the ranks of metaldom. I definitely don't deserve it, but am just happy my using goofy background vocals didn't get me excommunicated entirely!

  • @chriddof Feb 4

Hello again! Thanks for the comment. I dunno why I settled on the BBFC angle for the opening sample and pic, but I guess they have been on my mind a bunch as of late (I've been reading some British cinema books).

  • @dasbinky  Feb 3

    Technically, YOU are the PoopHub.

I'm just gonna leave that there without context.

  • @dasbinky  Feb 3

Randomly: I knew SOMEONE would google ProviderHub, and figured it would be you, Kristian or Eric D. πŸ˜€
Ours is totally different. We just stole the name. I name most of our internal projects and I like naming things XXXHub. Like if we ran a record label, you'd be the brand manager of MetalHub. I suppose I'd manage ShittyPopHub, which would clearly be the larger seller, though you'd have more cred.

  • @sw1n3flu  Feb 3

RIGHT! EZ Drummer sounds like more of my level LOL. Will check it out and thanks!

  • @sw1n3flu  Feb 3

Hey dude! We spoke at last year’s FOP about those killer drums you have on your tracks... Was it superior drummer? I am using GB drums that the moment and not really liking the kits or the pre-configured patches etc. Prepared to spend some money as have been selling off some unused gear of late. Ben

  • @srcoops  Feb 2

I put one on that may be of interest "You're Fired"
Good to see you working on things.

  • @musicsongwriter  Feb 2

Hi Peter, thank you so much for your brilliant challenge and great support. I sometimes watched earlier episodes but when there were doctor 9 and 10 I watched every single episode, sometimes twice as I absolutely loved it. I'm delighted you like what I came up with as it was a tough challenge for me because I absolutely love the choice of music I found in Doctor Who. Thank you again.

  • @gslade Feb 1

Awesome info. I'd love to learn more about the whole mastering process, but fitting it into being a senior exec at a casino, husband, and father to 6 (and half the neighborhood it seems), and writing a novel and short stories...and of course..MK11..where to fit it in??? I wonder if we could make something decent together? Let me know if you think you're up for something.

  • @dragondreams  Feb 1

Hi Peter. Thank you for the listen and the (I think) compliment! πŸ˜‰
Nothing tricksy on the pedalboard (I didn't actually have any effects kicked in for that track). All the tone is from the amp. There was a little bit of reverb and delay added in post (VSTs in Reaper).

  • @jeustan  Feb 1

    Dude! You rock!

  • @fonte  Feb 1

Hey hey! Yes, I will be back this year! Looking forward to hearing what you come up with!!

  • @autoclamp  Jan 31

As in all things, I do what THE CATS TELL ME TO DO.

  • @srcoops  Jan 31

Looking forward to your giving youth to an old man's words.

  • @ryako  Jan 31

Hey nerd! We're gonna kill this!

  • @emplate Jan 31

Thank you, very good to see you again, too! Let the chaos flow! πŸ˜€

  • @nuj4x Jan 30

I'd love to link up with you this FAWM and make another collab. I have the best idea out of the last three years and the foundation to make it an all timer. Hit me up if you're into it.

  • @meadows  Jan 30

Hey Peter! Good to have you back! Looking forward to hearing your songs! You rock!

  • @bking  Jan 26

Hey Peter. It’s good to see you here again. Are you going to do some magic with that Tele?

  • @caterwauler  Jan 24

You know I'm *never* ready for this (but here all the same). πŸ˜€
Looking forward to more madness of yours.

  • @sw1n3flu  Jan 24

    BTW awesome Bio!

  • @fulanin Jan 23

Hey man! How are you doing?
If I remember correctly I owe you a collab since last year and I'd like to pay my debt haha.

  • @zecoop  Jan 22

Here we go - Looking forward to all your various incarnations!

  • @dreamscuba  Jan 22

Just listening to some Abomnium on trippin stuff... Respect!

  • @gordon  Jan 22

It will be soon sir! Environmental space rock? Spaghetti space rock? The opportunities are endless. Like space itself. Deep. Yes.

  • @toms Jan 20

I'm old and don't usually sell guitars so I have too many. πŸ˜€

  • @natrin Jan 20

Hello, have a great FAWM! 😁

  • @johncrossman  Jan 20

You. A bunch of electricity. My ears. Good stuff.

  • @toms Jan 19

...a student model they might get a bit snooty. πŸ˜€ Anyway, totally nuts. I really should upgrade the pickups and tuning machines...

Edit: oh not really solid body but chambered mahogany. Some day I want a Billy Zoom model. FXxv6prAcaAoNkEALw_wcB&merchant_id=143346434&pla=1&utm_campaign=6481185772&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google

  • @toms Jan 19

That Gretsch I linked to is street price like 500 USA bucks and is made in the same Chinese factory as my Pro Jet. Not a bolt on neck, a set neck, even, and I have to say the Gretsch guitar I have currently, which is a 2007 Jet Electromatic set rosewood neck with filtertron pickups (this model occasionally turns up used for cheap like 300 USA dollars), plays better than any other guitar I have ever owned except for a 1981 telecaster. It's absolutely crazy. It's a cheap student model guitar! Maybe I just got lucky, but it is an unbelievably well made guitar. I mean, I have some good guitars, like a 1987 american made 57 reissue strat which is out of sight, some other Japanese and Mexican fenders, 2 Rickenbackers (both solid body a 6 and a 12), various other guits (like several Godins, which are pretty neat, and a lone LP studio) and the Chinese made Gretsch is my favorite in terms of playability. I kind of feel embarrassed when I go play with folks because if they notice that it's

  • @leslie  Jan 19

I've always enjoyed pushing musical boundaries with you. Shall we try it again this year?

  • @johnstaples  Jan 19

Hey sapient! I'm looking forward to hearing some of your signature metal awesomeness this February! Happy FAWM 2020!

  • @helenseviltwin  Jan 19

  • @wobbiewobbit  Jan 19

yay Lord Spaient! good to see you here as always. have a great one!

  • @silvermachine  Jan 18

Goodness gracious mate the noise levels on this page are positively serene. I hope you intend changing that very soon!!!

  • @bootlegger Jan 18

Good to see you back again this year! Looking forward to what you come up with!

  • @headfirstonly  Jan 18

Likewise! I may be a bit quiet for the first few days as Bill Gibson's "Agency" promotional tour rolls in to the UK on the 3rd and 4th, but that also means that a fellow Gibson fanatic will be staying with me for a couple of days before her gig in London on the 7th, so expect at least one collab from us...

  • @metalfoot  Jan 18

Yes, doing OK (other than my little car accident which the insurance adjusters are working out yet). Happy FAWMing!

  • @unpronounceable Jan 18

    Let’s do thissssssss πŸ˜€

  • @kristian  Jan 17

    *static crackles*
    burdy-gurdy mort mort
Shit... I left the radio in Swedish Chef mode
    Hellooo Amsterdam!

Yay! All Hail Lord Sapient! 🀘
The imps are all in the dungeon, preparing various instruments of torture in readiness for a sonic assault. πŸ˜‰

  • @oddbod  Jan 16

FYI I’m not planning on reprising the Badass Riff Contest myself but have a great FAWM nevertheless 😁

  • @grenzgaengerin Jan 15

    Happy FAWMING - yeah!
