Completed FAWM 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and after a brief hiatus, I'm back for 2021!

Normally I write/record for my horror punk band Candy Corn For Breakfast, but this year for FAWM I want to do more straightforward pop punk. I often fear writing "normal" themes because I don't think I have enough to say. So I'm leaving my comfort zone of writing about spooky movies and trying to write more personal material. Hope you enjoy!

Your guitar recordings are fine. I was speaking of your vocals. They are distorted, but I cannot tell, if your input gain is too high or if the whole song is too loud. There are several reasons for this.
I prefer recording with -3dB headroom, this prevents crashing the transients. Maybe the microphone is too close. You have the best dynamics half or a hand length away, depending on the characteristics. If your distortion problem occurs while mixing, it's best to turn the volume down until your master gain (sum) is lower than -3dB. I always check the waveform 😀
If your want your mix to be loud and energetic, you have to work on proper EQing and compressing, but this is a tough way to go. Avoid using a brick wall limiter! This gear may sound agressive and loud but it flattens your transients and adds digital distortion.
I honestly think that not everything is about loudness. -10 LUFS are sufficient. "Happy place" is reaching -4,73 LUFS with plenty of distorted samples.

Earth vs The Wildhearts is their masterpiece, but the latest one, Renaissance Men is also damn good.
