Thanks a lot! What a pity I don't use Mac OS. I use third party VSTs but somehow the dynamics and reverb doesn't sound good at all. Maybe I should buy a new MIDI keyboard or stage piano as soon as I have some space. Mine is a Yamaha, but it's 20 years old. I'm glad it knows MIDI, but I feel like there are dozillions of ghost notes I didn't play. The key sensitivity and feel is worse.

  • @nadine Mar 12

You're welcome! Are you actually recording a real piano or using MIDI Keys and a VST? I'm somewhat troubled my VST piano doesn't sound nice at all. Have worked with one real piano recording but this was damn hard to mix so I never did it again πŸ˜†

  • @rshakesp  Feb 14

thanks for the comment - its so hard when you are writing, recording mixing and mastering all on the same day to get the mix just right - but you are spot on about the vocal needing a bit more space. cheers for pointing it out.

  • @jsini  Feb 14

Thank you commenting on Classified Ad Blues. I appreciate it! Now, let me check out your work. Have a great rest of FAWM!

  • @blindkiwi  Feb 13

Thanks a million Roddy. That timing, phrasing and feel is almost exactly how I imagined it. I love it. <3

  • @billwhite51 Feb 9

james blood ulmer taught me the harmolodic guitar style, although im using it here in a more primitive way. the idea iis you have a A and an E string for the bass, and A and an E for the melody and two A srings for the chordal drone. he four A strings each of a different thickness, harmonize harmonically rather than as a chord progression. on the frst night blood played wuth ornette coleman, ornette called for a Bflat chord. blood answered that he didnt have a B flat. play what you got, ornette hollered. the tuning was devised to avoid leaning on traditional harmonic patterns.i spent two years in ths tuning before i was able to composein it. but here i am using t to get the feel of the still contemporary porch blues of the american south, where many of its practioners dont know any chords.neither do they know how to tune a guitar, another key element of the backwoods blues is that there is no such thing as a 12 bar, 16 bar, or any other counted bars blues. that was invented by the white guys up north so they could follow the southern blues player when they backed them up for dance gigs. there s no structure to the blues. he lines are as long or short as they are felt.

  • @blindkiwi  Feb 6

Hi Roddy, thanks for the comments. If you feel like adding music please go for it. I am still a long away from doing my own demos. πŸ˜€

  • @elenaduff Feb 6

thanks for commenting on my Mr F song. It's not my normal lyrical style, so no music yet...though I'll try to conjure up something by the end of the challenge, so I complete it fully!

  • @mikeb Feb 6

  • @ajna1960  Feb 1

Here we go again !!! Great to play FAWMing with you yet another year.

  • @kahlo2013 Jan 30

Hi Roddy! Looking forward to your wonderful music!

  • @headfirstonly  Jan 28

Ha - I kinda guessed that it would pan out that way. Thanks for reassuring that bailing was the right decision!

  • @headfirstonly  Jan 28

Hi Roddy - Cheers! And yeah, it's something I want to develop. I really didn't rate the Platinum Sync workshop at all I'm afraid, despite them having a great roster of speakers. They spread themselves too thinly and their tech issues meant I missed a lot of what was going on. 😞

  • @blindkiwi  Jan 26

Hey Roddy, good to see you too. I have missed this place for too long.

  • @acousticmaddie  Jan 26

Hello dear. Happy FAWM to you!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Jan 26

    Just 1 week till FAWM!

With all the turmoil since last FAWM, & especially since November, it's hard to feel quite as amped up about it.

"Unnecessary creation" just feels a little less necessary than usual.

But...the artists (music & video creators, especially) are arguably the most influential modern-day philosophers, & every day/week/month/year we spend honing our craft is a day/week/month/year invested in our contribution to our culture, no matter how small our circle of influence.

Hope you have a great Feb./FAWM, no matter how you spend it.

  • @alboe Jan 25

    Sorry, double post

  • @alboe Jan 25

    Hey roddy,
Regarding the 4 people video challenge.
What would you prefer, making a plan or leave it at random?
Random worked out fine in the past with the 4 track challenges, it was as simple as just adding your part to what you received on tape from the others. The first could have played a drum part or maybe chords plus voice and it was up to the next in line to add whatever they considered suitable. But if one of us already has some lyrics or chords or a general idea for a style I’m totally okay with that too. I agree with @guatecoop that we should continue this via email so are you willing to share your address with us?

  • @cindyrella  Jan 25

Hey Roddy. I hope so! Good to see you!

  • @timfatchen  Jan 23

Hi Roddy. I haven't been practising my uke. Hope you have!

  • @ustaknow Jan 22

    Hello! πŸ˜€

  • @guatecoop  Jan 20

Hey there! Just checking in to say hello and also get us talking about our plans for the video collab. @roddy , @jamkar, @alboe, and @guatecoop are our team. I play drums, guitar, bass, and keyboards, so I don’t really care where I fit into the plan. Let me know what you think. Best wishes to you!
