Artist Bio

Influences:   50s, 60s & 70s folk, country, pop, and rock.

I was the typical consumer-only music fan until getting involved with the filk* community in 2004. Since then, I've spent a lot of time on original music, writing and performing.

*( )

Outside of music, my activity usually involves computers, cats, cameras, and science fiction and fantasy literature.

[Things happened....]

Update for 2020: No specific plans (yet) except to be active.

Feb. 3, 2020: Lost one of my best friends today, a 17+ year old brown tabby named Ashton. I don't know what this means for FAWM; it's hard to imagine doing anything musical right now.

Feb. 19, 2020: I'm cleaning up my song list by deleting the one that was mostly written last year. Thank you to everyone who commented on it; your sympathy is much appreciated.

Feb. 26, 2020: My recording setup has decided to play dead. I've got some ideas to try yet, but there's a good chance I'm either lyrics-only or done for the rest of FAWM.

Re: FKO contest - Yes. Yes, I know. 😁

Thanks for your feedback on Soulwood!

  • @spinhead Feb 19

I'm looking forward to performing Headlights with a band. It needs some rockage.

  • @spinhead Feb 17

That fried meat in Dark of Night is a consequence of rhyme constraints. Wasn't sure about it, but the more I sang it the more I liked it. Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback on I'll Still Love You...

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 17

Thank you so much, Phil, you and @janeg both 😀

  • @ceilidh  Feb 14

Thanks for your feedback on By Candlelight! I've discovered the electronic drummer in my iPod Garage Band, and fought him 2 falls out of 3, so now the danger is overusing the new toy....

Thanks for your comments on my song Have a Great Day. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I lost a twenty year old cat named Alobar and I know how devastating it is. Life just isn't the same.

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 8

Thanks, Phil. I feel pretty good about the Caterpillar lyrics.

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 7

Ha! I feel the exact same way.

  • @ductapeguy Feb 6

Thanks. I noticed the blue rodeo similarities as I was writing somewhere good.

  • @ceilidh  Feb 6

Thank you so much for your kind comments on Golden Chain and Oneonta Gorge. From one link to another!

Thanks for your comment on The Nisbet Family Curse. My husband is halfway through an additional verse for yet another trip, to North Carolina where our plane was making a final approach and just past the end of the runway all engines throttled up and we were climbing as fast as the pilot could. Once we were back at 5,000 feet and circling, the pilot apologized and told us there was another plane still on the runway. I'm thinking each performance could be different depending on which stories you wanted to tell...

Thanks for your feedback on Next Door!

  • @gmcgath  Feb 2

It's been a long time since I've heard any new songs from you (largely because I haven't made it to the Toronto area for so long). Good to see you're still producing them!

  • @ericdistad  Feb 1

Great to see you back again Phil! Happy Fawming!

  • @tuneslayer2018  Jan 30

Hey Phil, nice to see you (I noticed you in a thread I just posted into, about two posts ahead of me.)

  • @tawny249  Jan 24

Happy FAWM! May it be fruitful.

  • @tsunamidaily  Jan 14

have the best FAWM this year!

  • @ampersandman  Jan 11

Hey Phil, thanks for your note. I agree, @karan does some very nice work, and she's not the only FAWMer to write in German. Actually, there are quite some who just seem to pull it off effortlessly. Maybe I just have to stop overthinking. Wishing you a great FAWM!
