I'm organizing a FAWM concert in Seattle on May 5. Let me know if you are interested in participating. More info at

  • @bradbrubaker  Mar 14

    Oh no! Feel better!

  • @bradbrubaker  Mar 13

Checking in again. Hope you are well!

  • @bradbrubaker  Mar 7

    Uploaded. Thanks again!

    Any interest in these?

The person who initially said yes seems to be gone in March. So I'd love to have you if you're interested. πŸ˜€

  • @timfatchen  Mar 6

Listening again to "Chicken". I've just realised it actually marks--or perhaps it actually MAKES--the point where I've finally recovered from the devastation of the crash'n'burn of the opera and returned to sheer joy in music-making. Thank you so much for your gift of lyrics! i said in the liner notes that I hadn't enjoyed making a song so much for years 'n'years. Now I realise why! xxx

  • @edwardsmusic Mar 6

You left me a message saying you would record some vocals for "Communication Lost". I haven't received anything. If you're still here, do you still want to do it?

  • @jimwood150 Mar 5

Thanks for letting me know that I can purchase your music on Amazon!

  • @ustaknow Mar 1

    Cont. from below:

Checking out a collaboration, - I'm somewhat familiar with metalfoot's work - so I looked there for musical diversity-capabiilty, flexibility, prosody with unlike souls πŸ˜€ so to speak. A+ on that one. Good for you.

So, generally speaking, and me not knowing anything about you, - great directions.

Additionally fyi, - I connected easily to "Hello Ego" in regard to sonic resonance/reaction, - how executed. I feel that regardless of the lyrics, durng a song, - if the performer physically feels the lyric/word/note/modulation as sung that may be communicated as well in the demo (fake it if you have to, I do). It's also good muscle memory for a consistent reproduction of the song. So, - when a child "runs into the road", the voice then has a feel if even not a shout. We all know "that" feeling, - use it. Again, modulatiing up into a high Falsetto octave jump from speaking voice -- appears as capable for you to do. If I were you, I'd work on that. You'll make folks pee their pants from chills if hearing the potential correctly. You're holding back, -don't. I'm not sure I'm communicating that correctly, but as well as I may.

I hope that's meaningful for you, Happy 2019!

  • @ustaknow Mar 1

OK Pearl, here you go. Total stranger reviews can have a special use, value (or none) - for me they've been the most helpful. One gets that or not. I've tried to develop communications around that, but, this is not "school" πŸ˜€ But, I do get tired of mom telling me how wonderful I am though? Ok, so...

I started with "Hello Ego". Your transition at 2:29 is a great segway, the vocals are effective; - it's a very relevant song.

I skipped over the "Skirmishes" as much as possible (don't know anything about them, sorry). I know you can - play and sing from, "Hello Ego"!, so was looking for your lyrics alone, in your context, end to end, as much as possible. In many I hear what I might describe as matured, "ethnic" influences in the vocal modulations. I see a thoughtful structure/feel in melding lyrics/melody.

As I poked around I started to hear a nice "falsetto" range (what I call it, don't get technical on me πŸ˜€ if that matters). I know how the classically trained can be πŸ˜€ Anyway, I heard on occassion it combined with some potential vocal "Texture" - as I hear it; there's potential there for some good well recorded tracks if focused upon as a tool in the track; as I put/describe it, and if you studied at all, this may make sense - vocally, as I hear you, just practice pushing some air/support behind your lyrics. I think a fully loaded "facial mask", however, just short of a "Belt" and you'll be in a nice spot with your vocal dynamics, in that upper range. You're on pitch, always a good thing πŸ˜€ As I do, consider writing down your intended sung melody note of the chords. My lead sheets, you'd find, e.g. "A a", over the, Lyric-word, of/on the chord change. It helps me in a number of ways. -- A-chord, a-of the triad sung.

Moving on, - "A New Perspective", great song. (cont. -->)

  • @splittybooms  Mar 1

    You bet!
I'm actually looking forward to 50/90... even though I admittedly experienced some musical burn out this FAWM.
I'll see you over in the FB group! Looking forward to making something with you!

  • @dasbinky  Feb 27

FYI, re: the FAWMStock thread, no worries at all about upsetting anyone. πŸ˜€

Speaking from experience, planning these things is a nightmare. (Worth it, but yikes.) It tends to take a critical mass of locals in one place to attract a similarly motivated mass of locals from somewhere else, and then once enough people agree, other people start joining the fun. It's luck as much as anything else, but it takes a ton of effort and planning to get that snowball rolling. The first FAWMStock was just a few people deciding to drive to a big house party Toronto, and a few other people agreeing to join at the last minute.

I wish you luck if you try and get one going on the west coast somewhere. I might try to make it! πŸ˜€

  • @splittybooms  Feb 24

That's awesome...and I agree with everything u said about him and his fam.
Started watching his vids little over a year and half. Definitely gives back to the music community with so much wisdom and advice. Learned a lot from him.

  • @splittybooms  Feb 23

Hey so this is random - I was watching a video of a guy I follow on youtube - Curtiss King; a vid of one of his songs called "Chief Called". I'm scrolling down the comments and I see "pearl manhattan" and I'm like....I know that name! And sure enough, I click it and its YOU! lol
Small world, even on the internet lol
Just thought that was a cool little random thing that happened πŸ˜€

  • @treble  Feb 23

Thanks so much for your kind comments on my skirmish effort Right at Your Side and thanks for the BRILLIANT PROMPT!

  • @wacha  Feb 23

Thank you for the kind words on "Within the Veil" your prompt sent me a pretty good creative direction.

  • @jorh Feb 22

Haha I thought you might have πŸ˜‰ wow it sounds great!! Your vocal really captures the emotion, and I’m loving the β€˜I promise you this’ part. I’m a killer for a bit of piano. More than happy for you to post this seen - thanks for collabing with me again πŸ˜€

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 22

No worries, regarding the tune that is out of your range. Looking forward to the other one. πŸ˜€

  • @jorh Feb 22

I would love you to set β€˜struggling to love’ to music - a country-waltz ballad sounds really intriguing, I can’t wait to hear it!! We collaborated on β€œremember me” a few years ago and it was fab πŸ˜€

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 21

    Sounds good! Thanks again!

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 21

Hello! You wrote: "the latter one [That's What I Love], three recording ends after three Male part in the verse, you want me to just double the first verse chorus or does it end after the verse?"

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean.

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 21

Thanks so much! You did great! I've posted it!

Any interest in tackling any of the other tunes? No hard feelings if you're too busy, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. πŸ˜€

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 21

  • @cherok40  Feb 21

Thank you for listening and your kind comment! Much appreciated!

  • @misterd Feb 20

Thanks for listening to mu ukulele novelty song-' he's a turtle man '. Cheers

  • @nancyrost  Feb 20

Van the Cat sends purrs! \^. . ^///

  • @timfatchen  Feb 17

Who's amazing, you say? You are! That chorus! Of COURSE it had to happen!

  • @timfatchen  Feb 17

I see "Chicken is now the most commented song for both of us! This late in February! What a snappy happy collab! THank you! (74 plays so far on soundcloud)

  • @dragondreams  Feb 15

    Thank you. πŸ˜€

  • @ericdistad  Feb 15

@pearlmanhattan - in the 16 years of doing FAWM, I think your comment on Today Is A Good Day To Buy may be my all time favorite! πŸ˜€ Thank you!!

  • @larryw Feb 15

Hi thanks so much for you comments on This is not Consent - i'll remix it after FAWM and finish it!!

  • @timfatchen  Feb 15

I'm getting so confused I no longer know whose in bed and who's up, because my own hours are all up a wattle. Pearl, I know we had chats in teh long-ago FAWMs and I liked your stuff, but Chickens was just...unbelievable! It's been a hoot the whole way, even the 20 bass guitar takes! I think it's come out great! So thank you too!!

  • @tuneslayer2018  Feb 14

Hey Pearl, yeah I kind of took a week off to deal with Snowmageddon. I see you've been busy while I was out.

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 14

    Sounds good!

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 14

Awesome! Thanks for your interest in possibly lending me some female vocals. When you have a chance, give a listen to "Restless Confession" or "Another Dying Dream" and let me know if either fits your range. πŸ˜€

  • @timfatchen  Feb 13

I'll email you the first draft so you can hear where I mean! Ignore the metronome, I seem to have done so. Oops, can't...

  • @timfatchen  Feb 13

Pearl, chickens... another verse would be nice to fit in before " I hear the calls" or after "right of way"? If not it's okay, I'll use isntruments (running verse bridge chorus verse bridge chorus instr bridge choruschoruschoruschorus...) I'm recording draft now for fear I forget but it'll take half a day to persuade the FTTraveliing Blues Band to get its act together

  • @seanbrennan  Feb 12

Oh, I'm glad I found you again after I took last year off! Looks like you've had one powerfully productive FAWM so far, can't wait to see what else this year brings.

  • @crisp1  Feb 12

Thanks for the kind words about Bit of Peace and congratulations on "winning" FAWM so quickly and on commenting so prodigiously!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 11

Hi, I posted a lyric if you want to try it. Totally up to you.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 10

I have an idea for a lyric to overlie the taste of you ... if you want me to try let me know and I can try to layer it on for a new song if you email the mp3

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 10

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 8

Thanks for your comments, I need to spend more time in Biab, so much that I don't know...yet!

  • @treble  Feb 8

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I used to be at UW, hope you're doing well there. I'd love to collab. sometime (I'm better at lyrics than music), but never have, so I'd need some guidance. But sure, and thanks for asking!

  • @reisupstudio  Feb 7

Thank you for my whack pack prompt! I will sleep on it!

  • @fecknom Feb 6

Oh thank god! Thanks for your feedback on that thread. I spent a long time editing it, but I'm from Minnesota, so I can never tell if I'm accidentally being passive aggressive.

  • @hummingbear Feb 6

glad - the word was glad - brain + finger glitches
    must be all the snow

  • @hummingbear Feb 6

I'm like you like my zombie PSA. First year here after writing a couple songs from a bear's POV I realized I was writing a musical. (It was a young male bear, people assumed that of me. Doesn't matter.)

  • @tuneslayer2018  Feb 5

Yay, glad you like what I've done so far. I'll see about putting together a demo so you can hear what I have in mind and translate it to Band In A Box. No promises when, real life is starting to intrude. (Or I hear rumors we might get more snow later this week and I could end up being cooped up at home again with nothing to do but make music. Awwwwwwww.)

  • @rickcannon Feb 5

Could you hit me with an address to send the tape along once I’m done with it? Email is in my profile details. Thanks!

  • @tuneslayer2018  Feb 4

That's quite the pair to draw to πŸ˜€

Yeah, not only did the grandkids get a snow day today, they closed our office in South Lake Union for the day. First time that's happened in the 3+ years since I started working there. So it's a good day to stay warm, relax, maybe crank out a song or two, and figure out why Audacity is stubbornly pretending my microphone doesn't exist. Hugs to you and hope you're staying warm, dry and well.

  • @tuneslayer2018  Feb 4

Thanks for checking out Diamond Ring Blues. I envision it being in a style similar to this:

I really wish my fingers could get the hang of picking; not only would I have access to a lot of banjo styles, I'd love to be able to play like Blind Blake. But then so would almost every guitar player out there who isn't actually Blind Blake.

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 4

Thanks for your comments on my song. It took me while to realise who you are, great to see you back!

  • @treble  Feb 3

Thanks so much for your comments on Too Much Junk. That late night TV gets a lot of us LOL.

  • @treble  Feb 3

So you actually know the Meadows of Mt. Rainier. Lucky us to have seen them. Thank you for your comments on this skirmish song.

  • @treble  Feb 3

Thank you so much for your kind words on my skirmish song Storm Warnings. I find it challenging to create good images within an hour, but love the challenge.

  • @postcardhelicopters  Feb 2

    Hi, Pearl!

Thanks for giving my song a spin. It looks like you've hit the ground running. Here's to a fruitful FAWM for us all!

  • @kovbleu  Feb 1

Thanks for the really nice comment!! πŸ˜€

  • @bithprod Feb 1

    Anything goes! Surprise me! πŸ˜€

  • @bithprod Feb 1

Couldn't resist.... A quick sketch, perhaps it can be used for somehing.

  • @bithprod Feb 1

Happy is a tall order! πŸ˜‰ (Hey, that's an interesting title, by the way). I actually enjoy making music as well, so I'm always happy to contribute.

  • @bithprod Feb 1

Well, I'm a terrible singer, but I'm always willing to try.

Lyrics or music first? I think I need some sort of starting point. Everything I write these days is dark and depressing stuff that would scare even Nick Cave or Tom Waits. πŸ˜‰

  • @klaus  Jan 30

Nuq daq yuj da'pol...Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam!

  • @ayancia Jan 30

Hey I'm here! WOOHOO! I think I've got everything like...half set up. This next weekend should help a lot.

  • @tuneslayer2018  Jan 26

I have to apologize, I didn't find out until I got here that Kevin Wiley couldn't be here so streaming was cancelled. Anyway, see you in February!

  • @tuneslayer2018  Jan 25

    Happy birthday Pearl!

I know circumstances preclude your being at Conflikt this weekend, but I just got hold of the program book and it says that the concerts and the like will be streamed at -- so hopefully you can join in on some of the fun, if only from a distance.

  • @hummingbear Jan 25

    πŸŽ‚πŸŽπŸŽˆπŸŽˆπŸŽˆπŸŽ‰ Happy Birthday!

  • @thetau  Jan 25

    Well, hello again -
    my bluesy friend.

I see you've been very busy this last year, very productive and with a great expansion of your talents, and skills. This year let's plan to put together an ALBUM of our earlier unpublished songs, you and I. Plus, of course, write a few more to Add to the list. You've got my email. Let's work out the details.
    Russ πŸ˜€

  • @jwhanberry  Jan 23

Happy FAWM 2019. Hope you have a great one. See you in a skirmish.

  • @nuj4x Jan 23

It's going to be a great FAWM this year, but only if you're here in full force! It's great to see you back! You know 😁

  • @max  Jan 22

  • @petemurphy  Jan 21

Hey, thanks. I hope you have a fun time.

  • @nancyrost  Jan 20

I'm gathering mailing addresses for the 4-track challenge. Please email me yours (click through my profile) and I'll get you on the list. Thanks!

  • @kahlo2013  Jan 19

Have an awesome FAWM! I look forward to you music!

  • @fuzzy  Jan 19

    Haha that's quite a cover!
I like your lounge jazz version.
    That song is infinitely malleable.

  • @valeriecox  Jan 18

Hey. Thanks for the info on the tuning wrench. If my drum key doesn't work (I like multi-purpose tools) then I'll have to order that.

    Have a great FAWM!

  • @atitlan  Jan 18

From your description that probably makes me just a few days younger than you.

Good luck with this year's FAWM!

  • @elesimo  Jan 16

Happy FAWM! Love the new name! πŸ˜€

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Jan 16

Can you point me to samples of your jazz vocals? Do you have a playlist of some of that?! I'd love to hear more of it. And, WOW!! BiAB has improved a ton!! Holy cow! Is it as simple as just putting in the chords? Now I'm super curious. πŸ˜€

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Jan 16

Welcome back! Also, WHOAH! Just checked out your youtube channel! Love that vintage vibe you have going! So so cool!

Are you doing the arrangements on those old-timey jazz numbers on the youtube channel? I need to talk to you!! TALK TO MEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • @hummingbear Jan 2019

Hey Pearl, here's some Sweet Sixteen cake just for you! 🍰

  • @postcardhelicopters  Jan 2019

    Hi-dee-ho, there!

    Here's to another year of music-making πŸ˜€

  • @metalfoot  Jan 2019

  • @andygetch  Jan 2019

    Hi T!

  • @tuneslayer2018  Jan 2019

Pearl it is then. Bailey, Joplin and Manhattan . . . you're in good company.

  • @tuneslayer2018  Jan 2019

@pearlmanhattan !!! Nice to see you as always. Sorry to hear you won't be at Conflikt but life does interfere. (Do you go by Pearl these days, or should I call you something else?)
