Artist Bio

Influences:   wardruna, game OSTs (elite dangerous, system shock 2, elder scrolls, half life), brian eno, kate bush, frank zappa, medieval baebes, twrp, angelo badalamenti, david lynch, julee cruise, chumbawamba, david bowie, balkan/romani/klezmer

PhD candidate in reimagining historical sound at the University of York.

Messes about with piano, filking, accordions, lyres, bone flutes, terrible singing and beating self up over never actually composing anything.

I am completely obsessed with creepy horror-themed Lynchian soundscapes, along with sinister folk songs and medieval nonsense. One day I hope to branch into synth territory when time and money allow.

Yes, I should put a warning on my profile: WRITES TOO MANY SONGS. 😉

I just love the creative FAWM environment and for a month I just roll with it. You're doing some really awesome stuff and I've enjoyed listening to your work this year too!

Thanks so much for listening to my tarot songs - I'm so glad you enjoyed them! I'm having a lot of fun writing them. 😀

What is reimagining historical sound? Does that have anything to do with those cool sounds in Overlodge?

  • @phoenixash Feb 5

Thanks for your comment on my track with Fuzzy

Welcome to FAWM! I’m excited for you to be here - it’s a beautiful community, and I’m sure you’ll find it inspiring!

  • @paulhenry  Jan 23

Thanks for the post on my soundboard, and for considering setting my lyrics. I would only add that I have no feelings to hurt if nothing I write interests you. That being said, I will think of something in the filk vein (although I am way out of touch with contemporary writing). I just read a neat profile of N. K. Jemisin and I'm keen to pick up one of her books.

  • @philkmills  Jan 23

Welcome! I see "filking" in your bio. It could be that we know some of the same people. 😀

  • @looprication  Jan 23

Awesome influences! Watchlisted. Welcome to FAWM!

  • @unpronounceable Jan 17

Ahhhhh! I’m writing a thesis and doing FAWM at the same time! Solidarity!

  • @hummingbear  Jan 16

Nose boop. Saw your forum post. Otters always look like they're having fun. FAWM is like playground - just have fun! (I'm interested in knowing what "reimagining historical sound" is all about.)

  • @paulhenry  Jan 15

I responded to you forum post, but i wanted to add that I'm only writing lyrics this year. Id be pleased if, as an exercise, you took one and set it. If my lyrics don’t inspire you, try the Collaboration Classifieds.

Welcome to FAWM! The System Shock 2 soundtrack is my favourite game soundtrack of all time!

  • @candle  Jan 15

Welcome to FAWM! Relax & have fun. We're a fun bunch and we all try to get outside our own boxes in February. You'll fit right in. Can't wait to hear what you come up with.

I'm liking your influences, too; if you feel up for it perhaps we could do a Collaboration.
