Artist Bio

Influences:   Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, Bill Monroe & His Bluegrass Boys, Hank Williams, New Grass Revival, Waylon and Willie (and the boys)

I like to play bluegrass and classic country and outlaw country.

I also like to eat bugs and climb trees. I have eaten a frog before too.

I tend to write short songs because I am small.

My voice is a little scratchy. Well, screechy if I am being honest. And I wanna be honest with all a y'all (this time.)

Oh and I DO NOT have rabies! (Again, if I am being honest, I may have just a little rabies.)

Fun Fact: I can protect myself by emitting a foul, rotten smell from my butt while playing dead, often for as long as 45 minutes! I'll prolly include that in a song or two!

I suspected you were a fawmer who goes by johnx3 on the band in a box forum. Sorry about that!

  • @hoppiern  Mar 2

Thank you for your songs!! I really enjoyed them 😊

  • @srcoops  Mar 2

Any relation to Pogo? We have met the enemy and they is us!

  • @scottlake Mar 2

    John john john?

  • @fuzzy  Mar 1

Thank you for making me laugh several times this month!

  • @bradbrubaker  Mar 1

I hope you are open to collabs next year!

  • @coolparadiso  Mar 1

Uh hum history suggests they are your ancients and that you added the O! At least you have somewhere to keep your money!

  • @hummingbear  Feb 28

Whew, I am relieved! Sorry about your great-grandpa. And about that raccoon thief! Maybe Amazon Prime could drop off some primo garbage for you? See you next year, my friend!

  • @hummingbear  Feb 28

Thanks for the fun songs, my friend. I got a little worried 'cause you haven't been around for a while. https://fawm.org/songs/122315/. Here's hoping you are well.

  • @heid Feb 27

Thank you for your kind comments! And if you ever did write about my pals Peapod and Waddles, I would certainly play the song for them. I'm sure they would look up from their porch coyote snack with joy. 😀

  • @jsini  Feb 26

    Thanks for comments too!

  • @heid Feb 26

Hullo!! I am very excited to check out your musics tomorrow morning.
I have two opossum friends who like hanging out in my yard. They found my taxidermy leftovers very tasty and we became good friends. One is named Waddles and the other is named Peapod Ernest Hemingway Jones (though he goes by peapod for short). Your folk are very friendly and cute. Good tidings to you!

I was sitting in my backyard several months ago, and it had gotten rather dark when I heard footsteps coming around the house, crushing on each fallen leaf. I tensed up, trying to think of what to do. Then I saw it rounding the corner-- there he was, a darlin opossum like yourself. He was just strolling by. But I did indeed then make a movement, breaking my still state, and he jumped back and hissed at me. After a moment, he was like oh whatever and kept strolling along.

  • @hummingbear  Feb 21

By "ringer" do you mean that tinnitus in my ears? Aw shucks, you flatter me too well friend - you know I'm not gonna eat you or any of your kin even without your kind words.

  • @heidiserwer  Feb 20

Thank you, Opossum, for stopping by my page and for your thoughtful comments!

  • @hummingbear  Feb 20

Thank you Opossum for your very kind words on my lyrics.

I'm barely a humming bear so someone else would have to do the music and singing. I'll let you know if anyone volunteers.

Sorry we bears are kinda snooty about our diets. Hey, our loss is your gain, right? I see you’ve eaten a frog! So’ve I! Maybe more than one. But only the legs.

Yup, prolly any Ole/Sven/Karl/Eric/Nils/Nelson or Bjorn is a relative. They each have their own territory and fishing holes and they’ve said only about one hundred words between them. Mostly they don’t talk.

Hey but you’re pretty sly to steal those fish! Now your nickname is Sneaky Pete Possum (SPP).

  • @ajna1960  Feb 19

    Dear Mr Opossum,

Thank you so very much for your extremely kind comments about my generous collaborators who bring my words to life. I love and appreciate them all.

I think I live next to Patty O'Possum's 4th cousin 7 times removed, Paddy O'Possum. He's the one that writes all those old trad Irish tunes that Momma Patty O'P sings around the place and annoys everyone with at the sessuns.
Maybe I can get him to write one for FAWM, if I ask nicely and bride him a tad with some black puddin.

    Re: My Lyrics
My fav songs on my profile so far are first and foremost, cus it's so much fun, 'Summer After Rain' with oddbod (the one with the demo https://fawm.org/songs/118478/), then I like 'The Photograph' and 'Down So Deep' both also with rustyp.
I think you might like Rusty's rendition of 'The American Nightmare'... unless you are a Mr T fan 😞

Folks seem to like the serious ones for collabing... all the silly ones are left ! Silly is GOOD !

Anyways, I need to go make that back puddin to bribe Paddy O'P with tomorrow....

Stay safe and don't eat anything I wouldn't,
    Ms West

  • @dragondreams  Feb 19

    Hi opossum!
Many thanks for steeling yourself to listen!
I'm not a real dragon. The clue is in the name. I'm just the figment of a sleeping dragon's imagination. 😉

  • @kc5 Feb 19

Aw. No need to try so hard. You're certainly not like any marsupial I have ever encountered!

  • @stephenwordsmith  Feb 18

Pleased to meet you, Opossum! As a New Zealander, I'm rather more familiar with your cousin, Possum, with whom I'm on rather strained terms due to an incident involving bovine tuberculosis. I understand that you eat ticks rather than untold acres of native florae, which is commendable. Perhaps you could have a word with your cuz.

Thank you for your comment on 'No-one Lives Here'. The structure of that song was the fruit of a serious attempt to break my own programming, so I'm glad to see it received as a success.

  • @aesthetic72  Feb 17

Hey! Thanks so much for your kind comment on my collab and the safety tips for when I go atravelin that California 1. You used to live in Joni’s attic? As in a house? I always thought she lived in a box of paints! So weird! Speaking of which, did you happen to overhear her telling someone where she gets her arts supplies? I’ve a pretty sweet supply of yellow (had that delivered by a conspicuously large Taxi) but I’m fresh out of one color. Blue.

  • @billwhite51 Feb 17

we have a little critter called the mouse opossum that is found along the base of the ans in the southern part of the country

  • @cindyrella  Feb 17

I think it was last year I wrote a possum song. I'll have to look.

  • @fuzzy  Feb 17

    Well thanx for the advice.
First time I see a possum around here I'm gonna just walk right up and give it a nice ol' belly rub.

  • @gm7  Feb 17

    Mr Opossum
I am glad you and your Snarlin Darlin are doing well...but stay away from the highway...the last thing that may through you head is a Michelin tire. I know your just clawing along with life but it will get better. You have a great deal of talent "drop dead good" as it were. There is talk of Holywood re-doing the movie Dead or Alive....you could play both parts.
So stay safe, don't be like your kinfolks and get "splatted"..holy shit...I mean poop, sorry about that!.

  • @cts  Feb 17

    Dear Opossum,
Thanks for stopping by the Jelly Factory. I appreciate your not rummaging through the trash cans looking for nourishment. You are quite the talented marsupial and I'm ultra glad I found you. Thank you for not biting anyone and I'm sorry for what happened to one of your kinfolk two years ago...it was an accident. Continue to make that music, my friend. You're awesome!

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 16

    So photogenic!

  • @colgoo Feb 16

    Dear Opossum,

I am not as open about my identity as you are on your soundboard, but you totally figured me out. I am a Mama bear and very protective of my cubs...even though they are almost ready to leave our cave and venture out into the world on their own. Thank you for coming by to listen to my music.

  • @judypie  Feb 16

Hello opossum! Thank you for checking in. I hope you are well! I’ve had a sleepless night I’m afraid and have finally given up trying to get to sleep after 7 HOURS and checked my fawm page and seen your lovely message 😁. I have to get up in an hour for work now anyway. Christ on a bike. What’s the bloody point o wise opossum?

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 16

I've actually seen an opossum in my front and back yard here in my Chicago neighborhood. Was it you????

As for my song, more writing about a general social media malaise than a current state I'm in. Thank you for the concern my fuzzy friend!

  • @andread  Feb 15

Thank you for your admiration of my mouse song! We have a fair number of big possums lumbering around our neighborhood off and on. Must be your cousins. 😀

  • @ustaknow Feb 5

    Hello! Happy FAWM2021!

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 5

Families good! That dog....... well I imagine he's probably giving your grandma a good toss off in the great beyond 😂 He was an old guy, but he sure played with you like a puppy again, so thanks! Other than his extra foul breath he had a good last couple of years, makes sense now why he only liked to eat new food I put in his bowl 🤣

  • @kendrakinsey  Feb 4

    I’m a fan, sir possum

  • @gm7  Feb 1

I love that banjo sound..i need more!
    great tune. Freakin' funny.

  • @hummingbear  Feb 1

Are you by any chance related to the O'Possums down by Shingle Crick Way? One of them used to play banjo, those claws made musical magic.

  • @fuzzy  Jan 31

Your great grandfather must've been one kinky opossum! I'm actually a baby seal!

  • @rayboneor  Jan 31

Hey, I love short songs, mostly because I'm a crappy musician and don't want to drag things out too long. I'm sorry about that time you were on my porch. I thought I would scare you off by clapping my hands. I didn't realize that you would fall over as if you'd just been shot

  • @tseaver  Jan 31

"Just a Little Rabies" -- helluva song prompt.

  • @fuzzy  Jan 30

    Welcome to FAWM!!
We don't get much wildlife here, so you are a welcome addition to the club!!

  • @judypie  Jan 29

Oh, I am sorry that I assumed you truly had smol hands, I should’ve realised that was just the camera angle. Now I look again, I see how large they are.
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy your first Fawm!

  • @judypie  Jan 29

Hello opossum! I love your tiny hands!

  • @dragondreams  Jan 29

I think I just burst something vital! 😁

  • @tseaver  Jan 29

    Welcome, and happy FAWMing!
