Influences: Currently getting a lot of listening are – Nils Frahm, Louis Jordan, Natalie Cressman & Ian Faquini, Boz Scaggs, Patrick Watson, Mel Torme, Beck, Lizzo, Andrew Bird, Count Basie, Aris Kindt, Damian Jurado, James Hunter Six, Benoit Pioulard
I often wonder if anyone actually reads past the first few words of these bios, but in case you’re one of the curious types who does, I suppose I’d better say something. But what? The usual stuff like “this is my 37th FAWM” or “My goal is to write a concept album based on The Hungry Caterpillar”?
Or perhaps a bit of musical background such as “I started playing the double bass when I was 3”? Maybe something more personal? “I’m 102 in dog years, post-sexual and live in overturned boat at Dungeness” - that kind of thing?
The reality is I love playing acoustic guitar which happens mostly at my house in Kent. I jot down rough ideas, some of which end up turning into FAWM songs. I don’t do a lot writing/recording otherwise.
I will appropriate your lyrics and add music to them, though I am prone to changing things so if you’re precious about your babies then hide them away from me!
No songs by this fawmer (yet).
I'm mad at how good your stuff sounds with such a spartan setup. You talented bastard.
Welcome back, Tim! My fettle appears to have developed a few spots of mould, but I'll give it a wash and air it out a bit before Feb. Hope you've taken better care of yours.
Your username and profile pic are wonderous. Can't wait for that concept album of The Hungry Caterpillar 😉
Allo! Happy FAWM! 😀
Greetings fellow Kentish Man.. or Man of Kent. I can never remember what the rules are! Hope you have a stonking FAWM!
Hi Tim - thanks. Appears to be kidney stones, so just unpleasant and occasionally painful rather than anything life threatening. Nothing that will stop me FAWMing! Fancy doing a collab this year?
Let's get FAWMing!! Can't wait to hear yours...
Hi Oddy. Good point, which made me think that we are influenced as much by bad music as by good music. Style is as much about what influences you omit as it is about what you include.
Have a nice Fawm 2020.
Happy happy FAWMing to you too!
This year I will be mostly keeping my riifs well away from competitions 😉
Wotcha mate. That Riff Contest of yours was a bloody good idea and I don't know how you managed organising it and doing FAWM. It's hard enough for me to do the 14 songs without added distractions so I won't be taking it on. Hope somebody does though.
I dont mind trying to set the competition up before FAWM starts if that's possible. Whaddya think?
Awww... I had you cast as BJ 😀 haha... no, that would be evil... «confused man in pub angry at make-believe EU spendings» perhaps?
Thanks for checking and for the green light. I'll keep you posted!
Hi, Tim. Yep, I loved what you did with Grace and hope I can come up with another lyric worthy of your talents. I actually sent you an email the other day via 50/90. Looking forward to your musical output whether or not we end up collaborating!
A concept album based on the Hungry Caterpillar? That's an awesome idea...I'll do it if you won't!
Welcome back, btw 😀
It is the time to write stuff so let’s do the things required to do so!
Why? What have you heard?!
(I am well, and I hope you are too. You are welcome, as ever, to appropriate me like an indigenous culture on Halloween.).
Hey mr Oddbod sir!
I know what you mean. I do tend to meander through January, although I have plenty to be getting on with.
I'm lyric writing for somebody now, which is always a challenge for me, so it's good warming up exercise for Feb.
Good to see you around. Let's do this.
Show us all how it's done, sir.
Yup - hang on to your hat, my man! It’s gonna be good one!
Hahahah take them Oddbod! They will live on posthumously 😁 They’re mainly about Japan so add some koto yeah?
have the best FAWM this year!
Yeah like "Why are you driving so fast?! We're running late already do you want to get in accident??!" People are stewppid.
Odd, it's lovely to see you back. I'm totally hating music this year, so my plan (for what it's worth and that's not much) is lyrics only. And I have no qualms about them being cut into little pieces thrown up in the air and reassembled. So if anything I put up this year interests you, I'd be honored.
I'll try and squeeze them in before all the new music for the year arrives!
Very much looking forward to whatever music you come up with this year!
I'm afraid my list of influences is a bit of a running joke, sorry - no way I could achieve some of that jazzy weirdness! Incidently, I bought Aja on record the other day on a whim having only ever heard 'Do it again' and it blew my mind a bit, so I'm looking to which album to go to next, and I think you've answered it
