Artist Bio

Influences:   I have a kind of folk-pop sensibility so artists like Ed Sheeran and Maggie Rogers are currently strong influences. I appreciate songs with strong lyrics and a little bit of poetry to them.

I am in my early 60's and for the past 30 years or so, music and songwriting have been my most active avocation. I also like screenplay writing. In September 2017, my first full length album, Firefly In A Jar Of Emotion was released and fully half of those songs came out of FAWM sessions. For the past 12 years, this has been my laboratory. And it is always challenging and fun!

I am not sure what this year will bring. I have songs for an album in mind. I have joined two songwriters groups in my area and I have also joined Drooble, which is kind of an international artist platform at https://drooble.com/michael.gutierrez.... I belong to the Rhode Island Songwriters Association (RISA at https://www.risongwriters.com/) even though I live across the border in Uxbridge, Mass. There's a lot going on in my area and the energy is very sustaining.

I am posting publicly my collaboration project with Peter Watkinson (Sapient) and Marie Tueje from 2009, Sunday Afternoon 5pm for the first time in the hopes of making it onto some streaming playlists. I have always been very proud of this and it really was a happy accident. I posted lyrics, couldn't think of music for them and then the lyrics were found by Marie and Peter who were paired for a collaboration through February Album Writing Month that year. The result was this incredible song. This is the link through Bandcamp. You can also find it on Spotify and Apple Music under the name SA5PM.

Hi Mike, I gave your CD another listen prior to FAWM Over. I especially like Bicycles to Somalia, Neponset River and My Diane. Hope to see and hear you on Sunday.

  • @tageule Mar 6

Thanks for stopping by again! And you created some really cool songs. Hope to meet you again here next year. Take care!

  • @roy  Mar 4

Thank you for your kind comments, Michael. I'm just now getting around to listening, I hope to hear a lot of tracks from everyone in FAWM. I'm in need of uplifting and distracting things at this time.

  • @lhcisco  Mar 4

Hey man! Glad I could reach you with the tune. It was real talk.

  • @jwhanberry  Mar 3

  • @marthie Mar 3

I forgot the songโ€™s name too- Iโ€™ll have to ask one of my church organist friends...

  • @itoarazi Mar 1

Thank you for the info and the comment!! I'll listen to some of yours tomorrow - couldn't get my last 2 songs in due to time constraints and work and all that fun nonsense. Glory be.

  • @scottlake  Feb 28

What is your other catโ€™s name? I made up frank as I was in character. Just curious.

  • @bethdesombre  Feb 27

    Congratulations on your win!

  • @scottlake  Feb 27

Mike - I posted it. Had lots of fun doing it. I channeled Adrian Belew a little bit on the guitar faking the cat meowing sounds.

  • @cnidaria  Feb 27

Thanks for the comments & listens! "The heaviness can mind its own damn time" is my favorite line too. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @scottlake  Feb 25

Mike, I'm wondering if I can go cartoon-ish with the song? If not, that's fine with me.

  • @scottlake  Feb 24

I will take a listen soon. Just got home from church

  • @scottlake  Feb 23

Mike, I got the .mp4 and the chord chart. I can't import the mp4 so if you have an mp3 that would be helpful. Also, it sounds like the music is not aligned with the click track after the first line or so. Did you have the click track playing when you recorded it so you could hear it?

  • @scottlake  Feb 23

I will take a listen tomorrow. I donโ€™t know if I can use mp4 or not.

  • @msculli1  Feb 21

Thanks for the comment on Nightmare, much appreciated.

  • @declan Feb 20

    Emailed you about the Collab

  • @quork  Feb 19

Hey Mike, right back at you!

  • @scottlake  Feb 19

    That is my email!

  • @johncrossman  Feb 18

Hey, thanks Mike, good to see you!

  • @scottlake  Feb 18

Mike thanks for your comments on my Collabs with Eric and Nancy. I could do the same where I do a bass or keys accompaniment to one of your songs. I would need it to be recorded to a click track and get a chord chart to help me. If that works for you I will add you to my list. Iโ€™m afraid time is starting to run out on some of the others.

  • @heidiserwer  Feb 17

Thanks so much for listening to my song and for your kind comments! I look forward to checking out some of your new music soon also.

  • @wistah  Feb 17
