2021. Phew?

FAWM laughs at those who make plans, so I'll just be taking a deep breath and jumping in. Have a great February, all.

Collaborations? Absolutely, time permitting.

March 1st: And we're done. Big thanks to my collaborators. I'll be around during March to catch up on what I've missed (basically everything). Thanks FAWM. You're an awesome bunch.

Not to worry, I was overtired anyway and also being too laconic... Sigh. I liked the harpsichord (belonged to the music master at Scotch in Adelaide, the one year I was there after my shambles elsewhere!) What put me off the things is the necessity to keep tuning them, not to mention upsetting geese.

  • @timfatchen  8 weeks

Yeah well, thanks for the listen but...harpsichords in smoky pubs in Adelaide? Lots and lots but you have to know how to rock them. Mine for example is labelled Casio Privia but I know what buttons to push! Seriously, last time I played a real live harpsichord was late 1966. In Adelaide.

  • @psyt Mar 10

Thanks for the listen, Mike. πŸ˜€

  • @audrey  Mar 4

Thank you for your kind words on "What Might have Been".

  • @spinhead Mar 3

thanks muchly for the positivity on my camel ditty, sir

  • @oswlek Mar 3

For some reason it eluded me that you had also commented on "Just Words". Thank for the kind words there as well. It is much appreciated. πŸ‘

  • @oldlostjohn  Mar 3

Thanks for taking time to listen and comment on every one of my songs, but of course I've gotten used to that luxury over the years! I will try to reciprocate over the next few days. Congrats to reaching and surpassing the fourteen!
The Lighthouse is actually one of few more recent films I've seen and even fewer I've enjoyed.
And of course playing guitar in the bathroom is no issue, but I wouldn't do it while taking a shower!
And the pump organ. Actually, that was the very first instrument I recorded this year as I built the basis of the first weasel track, and it's also there in the mix of the other couple of songs with atmospherics in the background. Someone referred to those sounds as synth, but of course I wouldn't use anything except proper organic, acoustic instruments recorded through microphones!

  • @oswlek Mar 3

Thanks for the comment on "Miracle", Mike. I have to confess that it wasn't a conscious choice to make it sound like that, but I listened again after reading your note and it actually does sound like that! πŸ˜„

Thanks again. You have a lot of gems on this channel. And you seem to be a hub with spokes that lead to lots of other wonderful artists. πŸ‘

  • @adforperu  Mar 2

Thank you for your commenting session sir, always appreciate your words πŸ˜€ Congrats on way surpassing 14, I've got some catching up to do! Gimme a few days.....

  • @oddbod  Mar 1

Well done Mike, another cracking bunch of songs notched up and easily past the 14.
I was just thinking the other day that in over 15 years, we've never spoken or met in person yet somehow I feel that I know you quite well. Sometimes that internet is not a bad thing at all.

  • @philnorman  Mar 1

You win! Again! Now to get round to listening to them all!

  • @coolparadiso  Feb 27

can i pinch Samuel Beckett at the Crease for this weeks podcast! thx J

  • @oddbod  Feb 23

Yes, my experience with Session Horns was the same. The demos sounded okay so I bought it, but my initial reaction was it didn't sounded that realistic. With a bit of effort though it can be okay.

  • @elainedimasi  Feb 21

Thanks for the comments! I was laughing over how my surf track sounded like I was singing over it at a firehall wedding for my Serbian relatives in the 1970s. Haha, now my secret is out. First musical imprint: the hokey-pokey. Next!

  • @thedustcollector Feb 20

i probably should have requested a telegram via carrier pigeon in reply, but alas: word limits.

  • @thedustcollector Feb 19

I'd love to collab, actually! Creating something that doesn't require me to exhaustively layer my voice a billion times over sounds amazing right now. (Could this possibly involve your guitar? I wasn't kidding when I said it's my fave style of yours.)

(Also: thank you! I hope 2021 is treating you kindly, and--frankly, I'm not sure anyone can reach the stellar heights of meta-irony required to write a song about irony that does not, in fact, feature irony. That takes immense dedication to the craft.)

  • @autoclamp  Feb 19

Hi, Mike. I'm taking a short break from my impostor syndrome to say that if you would like to collaborate this year, that would be amazing. If not, next years appear to be happening at semi-regular intervals.

  • @jeff9  Feb 18

Done. Sorry for that. Hadn't checked out the other fellow yet.

  • @oddbod  Feb 18

It's a long story, but the Eurovision thing is a kind of prank I'm playing on @kristian

PS - it's fixed now although I doubt very much you're that interested in a cheesy Eurovision fest anyway

  • @sunnymae  Feb 18

No worries. This month has escaped us all! I've been backed up myself. On to my next collab and before you know it we're outta here!
Let's pm at sonyaheller@msn.com to throw some approach together. OK if it happens "afterhours" T'would be an honor!

  • @scottlake Feb 15

    Hey Mike, halfway thru!

  • @susyblue  Feb 14

Yay all the way! Sure plz send anything to me susyhull@gmail.com

  • @susyblue  Feb 14

So it's only taken me 10 fawms to ask one of my faves 'caaaaarrrrn let's collab!" It'll be amazing, i'm thinking Kenny n Dolly, Sonny n Cher, or at least some rueful pop folk. If you have time and ideas of course (i for sure don't!)

  • @fortelmfield  Feb 12

Hey Mike! Mostly just Paul so far, Tristan is insanely busy this month and likely won't have time to join 😞
Well, you're spot on about Sweden being a bit of a rogue nation... the concensus here is far from united about the approach that the government has taken. Most foreigners (and many Swedes) are fairly aghast at just how badly the health department has handled the pandemic so far - too little, too late, lack of care and attention - however they have definitely managed to preserve a little bit more of "life as normal" feeling here, but at what cost?
Seems like common sense doesn't apply as much as people might hope here, and I think if other nations are using Sweden as an example of how *not* to handle a national health crisis, they're not wrong to do so!

I haven't read much about Australia, most of the news from that side of the globe is going on about how well New Zealand is handling it πŸ˜‰

Looking forward to listening to all your music though, consider a lockdown like a lock-in!

  • @feb21sundari Feb 10

Thank you for listening and your comments πŸ˜‰

  • @feb21sundari Feb 10

Thank you Mike, I really do. I got so much inspiration in the last week... very glad to participate.

  • @oddbod  Feb 9

Hi Mike, the ones I tend to gravitate to for the best straight drum kit sounds are the Fairfax Kits 1 & 2. These always sound the most natural and seem to fit with what I do.
I can't remember if they come bundled as one expansion or not and I'm not sure if I can rate one of them individually better than the other necessarily. I probably use them both as much as each other.

PS - I have the Mallet Kit as well, which is nice and good for quirkier stuff but obviously not so versatile.

  • @shortdan  Feb 7

I wish I owned one! I bought M-Tron and all the add-on packs many years ago when they were on offer. There’s some absolute gold in there!

  • @feb21sundari Feb 4

I am happy to be part of this FAWM and have heard a lot of wonderful music. Your "so long" is my favorite though. I listen to it every day. Thank you for the great inspiration.

  • @jharms  Feb 3

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Mike! Sorry about your ears haha

I'll add a few liner notes in the future; maybe the most interesting thing I added to that track was creating a feedback loop inside a mixer (without an input); it's one way of creating a sort of unruly synth in noise music.

  • @izaakalexander Feb 3

Hi Mike, thanks for the comment! I do wish I could put together a full arrangement, but I'm having trouble managing the space and time since moving back to Reno. The Epic Split Screen video will probably remain an unopened bottle of wine in 2021 --- but someday πŸ˜€

  • @feb21sundari Feb 2

    thanks for the welcome

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 2

Come to think of it, I HAVEN'T seen France and Spain in the same room. Ha!

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 2

I hope to contribute this year!! And to listen to your tunes too!

  • @judypie  Feb 2

😁 bless his socks, he bought me an interface and an actual mic for my bday last year! V exciting πŸ˜ƒ

  • @bradbrubaker  Jan 31

    Yessssss. Happy new FAWM!

  • @autoclamp  Jan 31

    "Collaborations? Absolutely, time permitting."

I have been sitting in the lobby of the Time Permit Bureau for a week now, and can report that they have either lost my paperwork or have a keen sense of irony. Either way, I hope you have an excellent February, and hope you are well.

  • @readerwriterpoet  Jan 31

Hello there, friend. I simply cannot wait to hear what songs you have waiting for all of us as a soul-soothing treat this year. <3

  • @caterwauler Jan 31

Thanks, Mike! Best of luck to you too!

  • @vomvorton  Jan 31

    Hi Mike! Happy FAWMenings!

  • @johncrossman  Jan 31

Hey, yes, looking forward to hearing more of your dulcet tones!

  • @karlsburg25  Jan 29

    Great to see you Mike

  • @oldlostjohn  Jan 25

Hi Mike, expecting your non-plan to work out fine. Good to see you here again.

  • @ericdistad  Jan 25

Good to see you back Mike! Have a great FAWM!

(As an aside - I have to say, our collab from last year is still making me happy nearly 12 months later. πŸ˜€ )

  • @nancyrost  Jan 21

Handshakes are so 2006. We can create a new secret elbow bump.

Great to see you back here.

  • @steffan  Jan 21

Likewise! We've been doing this a long time, huh?

  • @owl  Jan 21

    Hello! Have a wonderful FAWM!

  • @leepat  Jan 19

plan! (just thought I'd make one)

  • @sunnymae  Jan 17

Greetings from frosty Northeast NY. I'm looking forward to hearing some more of your creations this go around, and as for collabs...well that would be swell if you have the time! Have a great FAWM.

  • @chasingandromeda  Jan 17

I’m afraid Chasing Andromeda is much like being the coyote in a Road Runner cartoon. Got any Acme products?

  • @sailingmagpie  Jan 16

Ello, ello! Hope you have a good FAWM!

  • @paulhenry  Jan 16

As always, I'm looking foward to hearing your work this year.

  • @shortdan  Jan 15

    Well hey there! πŸ‘‹

  • @chasingandromeda  Jan 15

    Nod. Best wishes.

  • @mdavisto  Jan 15

Honestly, 2020 was a spectacular clusterfuck of epic proportions. Hoping FAWM will provide a welcome distraction from the figurative house fire that is underway. This is fine. This is fine.

  • @elainedimasi  Jan 12

I vow to be a better listener and commenter this year, Mike! Looking forward to it all!

  • @oddbod  Jan 11

    Howdy Possum Sauce.
I presume your recent Songfight foray was a warm-up and you'll be in attendance

  • @adforperu  Jan 10

    Well, it's nearly time again

  • @judypie  Jan 10

Word! Looking forward to hearing your output! If you’re putting any out?!

  • @mdavisto  Jan 10

Well. I see we find ourselves here again, eh?

    Now what?
