Artist Bio

Influences:   The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Smiths, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Fleet Foxes, The Cars, The Pretenders, Paramore, The White Stripes/Jack White, and lots more that I can't think of right now!

This year I want to focus on using some new combinations of sounds and instruments in my songwriting, and take a little more time on my demos than I did last year. I've also been exposing myself to a lot of new music (or new to me, at least), so hopefully some of those influences will come out this year. Happy FAWM!

FAWM 2013: 14 songs
FAWM 2014: 15 songs
FAWM 2015: 16 songs
FAWM 2016: 28 songs
FAWM 2017: 12 songs
FAWM 2018: 14 songs
FAWM 2020: 12 songs

I'm catching up on long overdue thank you notes for having stopped to consider my skirmish song Movin' Away. I really appreciate everyone's thoughts and support and as I rework some of my songs, will keep your comments in mind.

Hi Reagan, congrats on your win. And thanks for commenting on my "Missing" lyric. I've done a demo if you have time. https://fawm.org/songs/124458/ . I'm going to be fawming actively in March and will be sure to check out your music. Cheers

Thanks for letting me know your process for making your drum tracks. You have a real talent for understanding how to make them sound authentic. I think I have some homework to do this year!

Thanks a lot for listening and the kind words and suggestions on my
Resonator slide guitar Blues tune - Slow Rider'. I appreciate it . Cheers

Thank you so much for your kindness and appreciation of 'Pushing Upward' 😀

Man, putting on Vince Guraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas album over the holidays must have really gotten to me! I definitely have to go back and listen to more of his work after FAWM is done.

I hadn't heard of Joe Hisaishi before, but after a glance a couple of his compositions, I definitely get that connection. Thanks for pointing him out, I'll have to dive in more!

And yeah, definitely have to post it as one song haha. Usually I post a fair number of these, so doing it otherwise would fill up the song list real quick! It also feels like its toeing the line as it is, as there isn't really any writing involved in it haha.

Thanks for listening and commenting on The Wisdom Of The Trees. The BG vocals were actually a synth sound that worked well with everything else. Looking forward to hearing some of your tunes.

I really like studio ghibli films, so that's a nice compliment. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for your comments on "No Good" - it definitely has a whiff of Mraz about it! Also more than a little pong of Jimmy Eat World's "the middle" lol - soo many tunes come to mind when the melody gets restricted that way! thanks so much 😀 x

Thank you for the kind comments on Pull. I’ve always hated my vocals so it’s good to hear other people enjoying them

Spitfire do a Discovery version of the BBC Symphony Orchestra which you can get free or for 49 EUR if you want it sooner.

I have the Core version but you would be pushed to hear the real difference.

Thank you for the comment on Into The Morning Fray. Yeah, I am always trying different picks out. My favourites are bread tags, but yeah - sometimes those thick ones just have the right tone for a song. My wife bought me some 1.3mm Cherry Wood & Maple Wood picks for Christmas that have a real warm tone (I've used them on a couple of FAWM songs this year). I've got a whole collection of different types & every song seems to use a different one.

Oh that's so funny. It's because of the suspended chords... of course 😂

Hey! Thanks for the comment on my song! If you want to do a solo over it, I'd go with a pretty clean sounding electric. Here's my email jonathon.levitre@missionary.org

Thanks for the listen and comment on my collab song with Julie.

@mccannrs woohoo! Thanks for getting back to me. Email me Spellbound at michael.stettes@gmail.com and lemme know the BPM in the email if you’d be so kind. And also, give me a scale of 1-5 how “intense” you’d like the delivery. Think of “1” like the verses of “Pepper” by Butthole Surfers and “5” like Busta Rhymes slamming his hand in a car door. I was thinking somewhere around a 1.5-2.

Hey man! Thx so much for listening and commenting on "Big Game"! Let's all have a beer and enjoy the day! Cheers! 😀

The song was built around the pipe melody, which is in fact a Hornpipe and so should be played normally at 80-90 bpm in 2/4 time... but taking it to ballad land was fun... sometimes that's just how I roll... at least the chicks dig it. 🥰

Thank you for the great comments on Maggie! I appreciate it! I actually just learned guitar during quarantine (last year I did all acapella) so I want to play it as much as I can this year for FAWM!
