I probably won't be writing too many songs until next FAWM- I use most of the year to focus on novel writing and my blog- but feel free to shoot a note my way if you feel like it or if you want to trade notes pre-February! My email is bethanyrhenry at gmail.com

RE Pull myself up. I have a strange way of working songs, which is basically to start playing guitar with the lyrics in front of me and just see what comes out. The melody is the important part (for me at least) and the production is just what makes it interesting to listen to. For Pull myself up I could imagine a play between slow sections (like the start where the character is waking and stating the day) and more upbeat sections, which include the refrain Pull myself up. I think this song could start with just acoustic guitar and vocals and gradually add instruments so that by the end, it's a full on track, emphasised by the lyrics. Don't know if this makes sense or not, but that's my two cents worth!

Never actually heard of Mick Softley before! (I love when I learn about new-to-me music.)

No worries- all writing is good writing, and I'm glad you've shared it here! Very fun. Hope you've had a great FAWM and that you keep writing! 😀

  • @jgoodell  Feb 28

Impressive amount of writing as the month closes! If there were more time I’d would have lived to collaborate with music on at least one more. Maybe next year.

  • @bethyrose Feb 28

Well I definitely picture a trumpet being involved somehow in the music for Trumpet... but I know nothing about wind instruments really so it's all in my imagination haha 😀 Exciting to see have a bit of music collaboration happening here- and wow you've done a lot of writing in the last 24 hours! Nice work!

Hey, Malc -- I think I've got some music for "Cliffhanger". I'll make a quick demo and send it your way; if you like it, perhaps we could post it as a collaboration?

  • @prsongsmith  Feb 27

Thank you for the much-too-kind comments on "Ships of Sand", Malc -- the encouragement means an awful lot to me, coming from you.

  • @prsongsmith  Feb 26

Congratulations on crossing the finish line, Malcolm! And I'm so glad to see that you've found a collaborator to put music to your marvelous words!

  • @jgoodell  Feb 26

Production quality and my vocals are a bit rough at times, but given 3 days left this is what I could do and I pleased with it. I hope you like it too. If you do, let me know if you want me to try another. (We both are a couple of songs away from reaching the 14 song goal.)

  • @jgoodell  Feb 25

I think I’m on to a music concept that works well with “Laughing” if you’re up for collaborating.

I rather like Aderyn, because some of the verses have an emotional intensity, and imagery, that I really like, but I'm trying to keep things simple this year, and doing shorter songs, so I'm not sure I can do it, with that.

I'll keep an eye on your other songs as you write them, they all come quite close to what I would like to work with, but one doesn't perfectly fit yet, maybe one later down the road will.

I'm not a great performer, but I do like songwriting, so it would be an intellectual exercise in making a good song, not a great performance, if I do one.

Welcome aboard, Malc!!! So great to see you here!
