Artist Bio

Influences:   Bands

Major Danby are Dan Boyle & Karl Stanford.

2019.
Dan: Here again and really looking forward to it! The best, and perhaps the only thing I enjoy at this time of year.
Having the usual break in writing before it starts. I can’t seem to finish anything the last few weeks so I’m hoping it all comes together in February!

I sent you the Death Curl track a couple days ago - that wetransfer link will be good for a week. πŸ˜€

  • @zecoop  Mar 7

I remixed the Boxer 4-track song that you liked... thought you'd dig the new mix and addition. πŸ˜€

  • @wacha  Mar 6

Thank you for your very kind words on "Something Doesn't Add Up"! I always have a great time working with @crips1's lyrics.

  • @driftwood1  Mar 6

Finally catching up on my watchlist listening. Great songs again this year guys. Your stuff is always a pleasure to hear. Best wishes for a good and healthy year.

  • @berni1954  Mar 6

    Hi there.
Thanks for your post-FAWM comments on my songs. I have been away in France for the last five days and haven't had access to the internet much. I am so glad you like my stuff so much. I really enjoyed FAWM this year.

I promise to listen to your other stuff too, over the next few weeks.

  • @santadharma Mar 6

Thanks so much guys. Your songs sounded great.

  • @zecoop  Mar 6

    (just for the record...) πŸ˜‰

  • @zecoop  Mar 5

Haha... No I actually have a corn snake in the studio, LOLOL. I actually wrote a song about her for the easy shed thing

  • @zecoop  Mar 5

No rush... I'm still exhausted from FAWM and haven't even stepped in the studio since, lol. Sending this one to you will be the first time back. I guess I did have to go in there soon to feed my pet snake, so thanks for the prod. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • @zecoop  Mar 5

Definitely will... I'd absolutely love to hear what you come up with (and have absolutely no idea what you could come up with, but that's normally the case with me, lol). Thanks man! Much appreciate the listen, comment and offer. πŸ˜€

  • @theresaj  Mar 4

Thank you for the listens and very kind comments! I am enjoying your music too and hope to come back to listen some more.

  • @tamsnumber4  Mar 4

OH LOL! Thanks for clearing that up! Yes, both were struggling, but thanks for revisiting, I was confused, trying to fix these songs I wrote in the middle of the night LOL!

  • @tamsnumber4  Mar 4

"This is defensively heavy" Could you elaborate? I am fixing up FAWM songs and not sure about this comment means, I'm not offended or anything like that, but respect your opinion and just trying to clarify, I am trying to look objectively at the song.

  • @tamsnumber4  Mar 3

Thanks for commenting on my collab song "How Long", appreciate the listen!

  • @quork  Mar 3

You guys rock, in many ways. I appreciate your comments on my songs. Re. Raining Underwear, Tonight’s the Night is one of my favourite albums. Hearing that comparison is music to my ears. Thank you.

  • @angelinapowersuit Mar 2

"No one likes a guitar noodler" - hahahaha. Thanks for making me feel better πŸ˜€

  • @keithcuts Mar 2

    Lol re:your little girls comments.
Hey I’m glad I made the cut! Clearly she had good musical taste ☝🏽 Air hi five βœ‹πŸΌ

  • @sueawesome  Mar 1

thank you (Karl, I think) for all your sweet comments.. I’m excited to catch up on all the major danby tunes (I listened to the first few.. how did I not comment yet??! it’s been a weird fawm for me this year)

hope everything is well across the pond πŸ˜€

  • @zecoop  Mar 1

I have so much listening to catch up on... You guys are annual favorites and I have only listened to four? This FAWM turned crazier than normal for me, but I always stick around for a ton of listening, and yours are definitely in the plans. Thank you very much for the listening you have done. πŸ˜€

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Mar 1

    I did a thing! πŸ˜€
If you guys wanna add to it, chop it, layer it, or leave it.
    I'm open. πŸ˜€

Just my spending 30 minutes staring at words and then finding a few to latch onto and then making something out of that.

    And radiohead chords. πŸ˜€

  • @garlajoie  Mar 1

Thanks for your kind comments on my songs! Just listened to Not Ok Computer and it is refreshing to hear such a confident voice and strong performance overall on a FAWM demo! Hope you have had an awesome month. Cheers.

  • @lanasolyluna Mar 1

Thank you! I'm also behind on listening. Congrats on winning FAWM!

  • @coolparadiso  Mar 1

Somehow missed you this year. Will sit down and listen to yours shortly.

  • @degausser  Feb 28

Hello Karl (and Dan), thanks for your wonderful comments. You're mad though - your stuff sounds much better than mine. I really struggle to get the volume into it! Anyway, thank you soooooooooo much and I will get listening to more of your stuff in March as I always enjoy it. πŸ˜€

  • @joefahey  Feb 28

Hey @majordanby thank you for the good words and the listening marathon on my songs, much appreciated!

  • @keithcuts Feb 28

Hey @majordanby ! It’s been good enjoying your songs this month. Your vocals truly are butter! I expect big things out of your camp!
Thank you for the suggestion to lengthen my β€œsleep hydration ...” song ☝🏽 I would agree and with most of my songs here as well. My FAWM practice is to crank out two thirds of a song in an hour or two and put it up. Repeat just about every day. Then after the month is done revisit the ones I like, rewrite, add and come up with a handful of finished products ready for earth.

You guys are going to kill it this year!

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 28

Don't suppose you want to shoot me some lyrics so we can pull off a last second collab? πŸ˜€

I'd love to take some of your amazing lyrics and make some musics! πŸ˜€

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 28

Ha! There is some amazing studio wizardry going on on that MM album for sure. Plus, there are all great musicians who really excel at their instruments, so, that's always a big part of it. But yeah...the sound of that bass is a thing I aspire to someday. *stares of into space wistfully*

  • @stevenwesleyguiles  Feb 28

BLAME IT ON THE TETONS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MODEST MOUSE SONGS WE HAVE TO BE BEST FRIENDS ALL CAPS FAMWCITEMENT.

I FREAKIN' LOVE THE BASS ON THAT SONG. And the whispery, intense vocals. And everything. That's like, a sound I hope to achieve one day. The ever elusive "that sound". If perhaps I get the right mic pre/mixing technique/etc. πŸ˜€

  • @s7even  Feb 28

Thank you so much for your comments on my songs. My favorite comments came on the last day. I’ll take it. Prayers for your recovery as well.

  • @mikeb Feb 28

Thanks for the listens and comments on my songs, much appreciated!

  • @faceofeinstein  Feb 28

Debauchery is a great alter ego!
    cheers.

  • @kovbleu  Feb 23

Wow...I woke up to these incredibly thoughtful comments from you on "The Steady." Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Seriously.

  • @ayehahmur  Feb 23

Hey, thanks for you comments on Seaford. Hope my song doesn't come across as too negative about your gaff. I'm only damning by association I don't really remember much about the town itself, although if it's anything other parts of the Sussex coast, I'm sure it's really lovely. πŸ˜€

  • @repsurepa Feb 21

Hi! And thank you so much. Really nice to hear. I'll have to listen to that song you mentioned! : ))
And yup, making the song "the end" was as tough as the vibe in it is. I'm happy it comes through.

  • @piney  Feb 19

Lots of compression πŸ˜€ I sometimes widen the stereo image with a plug in

  • @kovbleu  Feb 19

Oh thanks so much! Yes, definitely worth the travel for the rain stick alone. Have wanted one of those forever. πŸ˜€ So glad you liked "Friend or Foe." THANK you so much for your kind words. They mean so much.

  • @dutch1967 Feb 19

Thanks Dan! Glad you like my version of Upside Down In Love

  • @misterd Feb 18

Thanks so much for listening and the wonderfully kind comments on my slide blues song β€˜Just another day in Paradise β€˜ ! I really appreciate it ! Thankyou .

  • @porrectus  Feb 18

Thank you for all the comments. 100 days is a primary school thing invented to cause Music, Art and PE teachers indigestion.

  • @theodamus Feb 17

Thanks so much! I'm glad the finger pointing came off nicely, but still evident because it's definitely there haha

  • @mmmmarcus Feb 17

Oh, and hey thanks for the comment on Undertow! Glad to hear you liked it!

  • @renegadepriest Feb 17

Thank you for your encouraging words regarding "Cyclical Grief." As it turns out, it is non-fiction. Even though the grieving process is never easy, it is necessary.

  • @berni1954  Feb 17

Thanks for listening to "Voices" and praising me to the roof. BLUSHES...
Here in Vilanova we have lots of magic, but no Spanish Castle. Just a small flat with three walls of one bedroom taken up with hanging instruments... Much to the chagrin of my dear wife, Carmen. πŸ˜‰

  • @porrectus  Feb 17

Thanks for the comment on Poet, everything was done at the match except the vocals, that I did at home. I usually get pretty odd looks at matches, mostly due to me humming Straussian Waltzes while wrestlers are aggressively hugging each other. Thanks again for listening.

  • @owl  Feb 17

Thank you so much for all the kind comments particularly on "Walk Steady!"

  • @berni1954  Feb 16

Hi Dan thanks for your binge on my songs. I really appreciate it. I am glad you are enjoying them. And I yours.

The instrument on the Soviet Airmen song is an Octave Mandola tuned as an Irish Bouzouki GDAD. It means you can let lots of open notes ring out and do lots of chords (without 3rds - so they are neither major nor minor) using only two fingers.

  • @mikeb Feb 15

Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Indifferent Rose'.

  • @s7even  Feb 15

Hey man, I’m a fan. Love your style. If you happen to see anything you’d like to collaborate on please let me know.

  • @igg Feb 14

Thanks for the comments on "Yesterday's Shoes"....

  • @berni1954  Feb 12

Hi Dan, I see you have been binging on my songs. Thanks so much. Your comments are really appreciated. Living in a country where English is not the dominant language can be a lonely place for a songwriter. FAWM and the Ukulele Underground Forum keep me producing songs for people who can tell whether they are any good or not.

Here's an "abraçada" (big hug) from Catalunya.

  • @berni1954  Feb 11

Hi Dan. Thanks for giving my "Liar" skirmish entry a spin. Glad you liked it.

  • @angelinapowersuit Feb 11

    Thank you. Just THANK you!

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 10

Thanks for listening and commenting on my song "Vagrant Sea", I really appreciate it!!

  • @kraftec Feb 9

It would be great if you could sing on my track! If you could send me the isolated vocal track when you're finished that would be great.

  • @driftwood1  Feb 7

Hey, glad to see you guys back again. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

  • @kovbleu  Feb 7

Thank you so much! I have fun just writing whatever comes and not trying to pin myself into one genre. I appreciate your listens and thoughtful comments. It really means a lot! πŸ˜€

  • @quork  Feb 7

Hey, your comments on aeronautics of love knocked my socks off. Thank you. I loved the lyrics and had a lot of fun finding what I thought was suitable instrumentation and arrangement. I appreciate the feedback from such impressive musician/s.

  • @mikeb Feb 6

Thanks for the comment on my lyric - I wasn't planning on uploading any lyrics-only songs to FAWM, but rather busy this week and this is a little out of my usual style.

  • @owl  Feb 6

Hello again guys! Thank you so much for the lovely comments on "Chinese New Year"! I realized when I woke up to the flurry of comments about how abruptly the song ended that I accidentally cut off the outro (with time signature change!) when exporting. I have fixed it, along with the bass thing that was bothering me that nobody else noticed πŸ˜€ Just thought I'd let you know. I will be back to check out what you've been up to later on!

  • @kovbleu  Feb 6

Thank you so much for listening to "Tidal Wave" - I really appreciate it. πŸ˜€

  • @leepat  Feb 5

Hey thanks for the love Karl (and Dan)! Happy to provide πŸ˜€

  • @mikeb Feb 5

Thanks for the comments on my songs!

  • @lanasolyluna Feb 5

Thanks for your comment! The sound is a tanpura machine. πŸ˜€

  • @berni1954  Feb 4

Thanks for your comments on my song "The Dress She Wore".
That 4th Verse is indeed the key. But you have to ask yourself what is implied by it.... I'm saying nothing πŸ˜€

Glad you liked the sound of the mandolin. It was just recorded on a ZOOM H2. The instrument itself is actually a cheap semi-acoustic F-Hole Bluegrass style Samick. I got it to be able to plug it in for live gigs with my blues rock band. My good Mandolin (actually a Bandolim - a Portuguese flat back mandolin with a thicker body) is in storage at the moment. Happy FAWMing!

  • @elliottlawrence Feb 3

It's funny you mentioned Radiohead, I've been listening to them a lot lately. I guess they're rubbing off on me a bit. You mentioned doing a collab, I think I'd be down for that! Feel free to shoot me an email.

  • @haim  Feb 2

Hi man. Hope you'll have a great fawm and finish something, like you want. Good start. Have fun!

  • @caitlinpieper Feb 2

Hey there thanks for the kind words - my cello is however not programmed. I play the cello and record the parts individually and then layer them 😎. Going to roll over to your new song and have a listen. Happy FAWM!

  • @guatecoop  Feb 1

Ah ok. I will check back

  • @enigma4711  Jan 30

    Happy FAWM! πŸ˜€

  • @ballyhoot Jan 28

Wishing you a happy and successful FAWM, fellow 2010 classmate....!!

  • @leah0k  Jan 27

Thanks so much, I really liked hearing y'alls stuff too!
Can't wait won't wait! Well... we all have to, don't we...
    Happy FAWM 2019 πŸ˜€

  • @thetau  Jan 26

Always love listening to really great music. Inspiring it is

  • @nuj4x Jan 23

Hi Dan, great to see you back! How is all your recording going? Hope your FAWM 2019 is amazing! Also hope to collab again if you'd like!

  • @tamsnumber4  Jan 20

    Hi Dan!

  • @kovbleu  Jan 19

Hey there!! Looking forward to hearing you this FAWM!

  • @julesbf Jan 17

Hi Dan, looking forward to your creations this year

  • @vomvorton  Jan 16

I know what you mean, the thought of setting everything up on a new PC is exhausting! Hope you manage to find a way to minimise the fan-noise, anyway!

  • @zecoop  Jan 15

So looking forward to hearing what you bring... Always a highlight!

  • @fearlessflight2014  Jan 15

Really good to see you back. Cellos and their minor chords was my 2018 FAWM fave song.

  • @oddbod  Jan 15

Hi Dan. How's things down on the coast? Enjoy your February.
