Hey, it's me. Kurtis Kanttila, 24 year old One Man Band guy from Northern Ontario. I make Rock 'n Roll music, simple as that. I have made over 250 songs and 21 albums since beginning my musical journey mid 2016. I play everything and record it with a Blue Yeti. I'm not about making it sound perfect, I'm about making lots of music and getting better.

I am welcoming of criticism on my songs. I appreciate all the comments I get and I want to know how I've done. So you don't have to hold back if something feels off. The feedback I get helps me improve and motivates me to try and do well.

This is an 18 song playlist that best showcases my work up to this point.

Thanks a lot for your comments! I am looking forward for all my collabs to happen and rock these songs with real instruments. This will be very different but doing this process for some years (with my band) I know that it will become great! I love to produce this 😍 what a pity FAWM ends before I can to my fun stuff!

I haven't read your influences before I listened to your songs. But yes - I spot them. Glad to know someone who's taste of music is not only focused on the western part of the world.

Maybe we see each other on Sunday. If my mailbox mailbox not gonna burst with stems 😆

Just picked up your new album. Looking forward to listening to it 😁

Really enjoyed what you played for the Sunday song circle, your style is super fun and big props for those fantastic riffs on the acoustic 😀

Hello, Kurtis! Thanks for your Shoveling Snow and Marilyn, the Blue Eyed Cow comments!

  • @candle  6 weeks

Kantilla FM Lore, yeah that's a thing now, buddy 😁 Now you need a snazzy logo to go with that radio station moniker LOL

Dude, thanks for the shoutout in the forums about top 3...that's made my day.

  • @candle  7 weeks

Well, thanks for the listens & comments as well. And thank you for letting me help expand the fascinating history of PiiKKERALA 😁 We should do a PiiKKERALA/Bootlick Company collab during 50/90. I could do another "long time listener, first time caller" blurb. That was fun! Hope you find a place to use it somewhere 😁

Maybe I should start doing some Gargamel's Revenge tracks LOL Which would be fitting, 'cos that was the name of the first band I was ever in. We played to 2000 people at an ice fishing tournament in North West Angle (so I guess my first gig was actually in the 'states. I just realized that, haha!). It was cold, but a lot of fun. We'll see what happens come 50/90, I guess.

thanks for your feedback and busting that zong for me!

  • @candle  7 weeks

Yes, I had heard about all that controversy when I was having a drink at The Royal Albert Arms in Winnipeg (coincidentally, Big Mac & The Bods - a horrible Bootlick Company cover band started by ex-Gargamel's Revenge drummer Shady Fraser - happened to be playing that night) from a guy named Pierce Hornblower - who claimed he was a roadie for Bootlick Company during their Golden Arches & Big Arses Tour (circa '91 I believe). He is definitely in the "Garboläinen was framed" camp, in fact he pointed me to a number of Dark Web sites that supposedly have undeniable proof that the whole Canadian Tire robbery was a setup concocted by Slimjam in order to get Bootlick Company noticed by a shady AR guy named Cyril Stench. I, of course, went nowhere near those Dark Web sites, but did enjoy the rye & ginger that Hornblower had bought me. He told me he quit the Golden Arches tour when he found out about Garboläinen's framing by Slimjam (they were on the tour bus somewhere west of Swift Current at the time, he told me. He said they just dumped him on the side of the road & he had to hike through the corn fields for miles until he got back to civilization (if you could call Swift Current "civilization" he noted with a disgusted tone)).

So yeah, I'm not sure what the real truth is about the matter. But you're right - it's certainly created a lot of buzz around Bootlick Company & PiiKKERALA. Maybe it's just a clever marketing ploy by both bands? Imagine that!

  • @deselby 7 weeks

Thanks Kurtis for those mentions in the forum threads. It was unexpected and a nice surprise.
I really appreciate you sticking with me as I don my mask, and always giving an ear to my weird ideas.
I hope at some point soon you will get a bass player and drummer and form your own band, doing your own songs, handling guitar and vocals yourself.
When Covid ends people will be ravenous for rock n roll. Let them have it.

  • @heid 7 weeks

Howdy! Thank you for the good tidings and for checking out some more of my stuff 😀 I've quite enjoyed what I've heard of yours as well! (I took yesterday and today off from FAWM but I plan to come back shortly and will definitely be checking out more of yours!)

In regards to a collab this 50/90, yeah, I would definitely be down for that. Sounds like fun!

  • @iwilleatyou 7 weeks

    Thanks for the listen!

  • @yam655  7 weeks

Re: "Endings, cowboys..." Titular gave me the title. Only today did it occur to me that I could have tied it together with a gunfight. Gun fingers. Deaths == endings.

I'm not a fan of machismo, though, so there's a good chance I would have gone with endings == butts anyway. (I was never explicit, but if you didn't pick up on that it may aid in understanding the song better.)

  • @psyt 7 weeks

Thanks for the comment on The Quest. 😀

  • @ttg105  7 weeks

Thanks so much for your comment on "Tangerine Light." I'm flattered that someone would go back and listen to a work from several years ago - much appreciated!

  • @candle  7 weeks

Thanks for listening to one of my epic rants 😉 I'm surprised I was able to pull off one of them this year, let alone three 😮

Stay safe, I hear T-Bay is going back into Lockdown. There was a Variant case reported in Dryden today, so it seems to be getting close. We've had a huge spike over the last few weeks & I just found out yesterday the City's keeping the rec centre closed for at least another week, so I'm still laid off. Crazy times, my friend. Stay safe.

  • @candle  7 weeks

LOL, thank you so much for the listens & comments. Yeah, I'm just running to where my Muse points me & trying to bring whatever emotion the song needs. It's scary how many vocal tracks I've done this year, compared to my normal M.O.. Not that I'm complaining, it's nice to be singing again & belting out the emotions. It's something I've missed in all these years of experimental noodling.

  • @lvgd09  7 weeks

Hey Kurtis, I haven't even brought in my fender yet. My hands have toughen up from playing that acoustic guitar. Wouldn't you know FAWM would be over when I am just getting started. No problem though and I will save what I can and keep moving. I did have a great time with FAWM this year. I'm not done yet.

  • @candle  8 weeks

I haven't forgotten about that song you asked me to do. My laptop just died & I'm gonna have to get a new one (I'm pretty sure). Might be awhile before I can finish that track. I had some great ideas that just needed finishing up. Will be back shortly to catch up on your tunes,

  • @opossum Feb 17

    Dear Kurtis,

Thank you for listening to my music! Your comments made me smile!

    Your pal,

  • @ttg105  Feb 16

    Sent you the vox track!

  • @devinhill Feb 14

Thanks for your kind words on my song "Eternal Descension." Those sounds you mentioned are my bass guitar with distortion, wah, and an octave effect. I'm glad you liked it! 😀

  • @faststrings Feb 13

Hey Kurtis, many thanks for your comment on He Ate The Whole Hog I appreciate it! I'm enjoying all of your songs too. Your doing an excellent job!

  • @lvgd09  Feb 13

Hey Kurtis, enjoying all of your songs. This is really fun this year...lets keep going...we have a long way to go.

  • @ttg105  Feb 12

Haven't forgotten about LWK! I'm looking at Tuesday, when a few hours will open up. Will send to you by Tuesday night.

  • @klaus Feb 12

Thanks, Kurtis for the comments. "Junk Drawer" and "Winter Wonderland" didn't appear on the All Songs list because I just added the demo to the lyrics and people don't even know they exist. Now every comment on those two is precious and appreciated more. 😀

  • @powerstars Feb 11

For sure! I have a bunch of material, it's just a matter of sitting down and turning it into something.

That's one of the coolest parts of Mania imo! I'm running that game right now and that's been one of my favorite call backs along with the Fang, Bean, and Bark stuff.

As far as anime goes, I recently rewatched Nanaka 6/17, which is a flawed but pretty good show and I've dipped into Ranma 1/2 and Kimagure Orange Road. I'm tending to really like that sort of '80s anime vibe as of late, I guess 😝 What about yourself?

  • @powerstars Feb 10

I feel that way too to some degree. It's been something I've wanted to do for a really long time so I'll probably take the plunge at some point.

I think I totally understand what you're saying. I feel somewhat similarly looking back on my demos as a time capsule. It's like I've built up a backlog. I feel like organizing them into albums that are more structured and consistent to share with people would be even better at accomplishing this for the reasons you described.

I think part of the reason I kept going back to Mean Bean is because I was pretty bad at the mainline Sonic games. xD I've gotten better since but I have a soft spot for puzzle games. K-On definitely gives me that feeling. I might pick it up some time soon since I tend to enjoy more chill shows now than I did when I was in high school.

  • @powerstars Feb 10

I think that sounds really cool, including the process of progressively releasing better albums and then being able to look back. I initially started doing FAWM and 50/90 to produce material for other projects but the last year or two, I've mostly just been doing it for myself. I'm more focused on solo stuff lately, but I tend to get bogged down in making sure everything sounds perfect. I think if I loosen up a bit, I could make something cool.

Awesome, thank you! Very much looking forward to it.

LMAO the Mean Bean Machine association is actually how I got into Puyo to begin with because I always loved that game. It really is a strong aesthetic, truly screams 1993. I'm loving those K-On plushes, especially their little instruments. I only watched a bit of K-On, but Mio was my fav character. Bassist bond.

  • @candle  Feb 9

No problem. The lyrics will come when your Muse is ready.

And yeah, that would be fun to make some ambience for you. Do you want just the pads & no guitar, or a mellow mix of both? Also, how long do you want, or should I just put something together & you can chop it up to fit what you need? Let me know.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @powerstars Feb 9

It's rad to hear you have so many collabs on there! I've always wanted to bring in a bunch of friends if I ever do a full solo effort so it's cool to hear that you're making that happen.
Having skits sounds fun too, feel free to hit me up if you ever need an extra person for those.

Thanks for the compliments on my music! Melody has definitely been my biggest focus for the last few years and so I think that's where I've developed most as a songwriting. I've been trying to up my production for a while and I think I've managed it pretty well. Thanks again for being so nice and validating that belief.

Oh and that plush is Arle from Puyo Puyo! I had it imported from Japan a while ago. The little purple Puyo she's holding is actually a speaker and, while it's not a very good speaker, I'm genuinely impressed and happy it still works at all.

  • @candle  Feb 8

I totally need one of those androids to write my Swimming Progress Reports for me every two weeks LOL (tho, I haven't had to write one for almost a year now thanks to COVID). Thanks for the awesome pic & great comment on The Hope Named Despair.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @powerstars Feb 8

YO I'm glad you like it! I sang along with your guide vocal on the chorus and I think we have a great blend there. I agree on the more energized FAWM. I dipped early last year and eased up on my songwriting, but just going in hard on in this year has been so refreshing and fun.

You're more than welcome to put it on your album! 😁 Definitely let me know when that comes out. I was thinking of putting out a solo album myself under the name "Jonii Vee", so I think that would be the most optimal to use. I'm glad we've finally made one happen, it feels really cool.

Is it cool if I throw it on my Bandcamp as well when it's done, just so that the FAWM compilation is complete? I'll credit you under whatever name you prefer and toss on a link to your album when you finish it.

  • @powerstars Feb 8

Hell yeah! It ended up being super fun to work on. Sent you a vocal take. Feel free to lemme know if you wanna adjust anything.

That's wild! I wouldn't have guessed because it came out sounding so natural and good. You're very welcome for all the comments and thank you as well! Listening to your stuff and receiving comments from you is one of my favorite things about FAWM this year. 😁

  • @powerstars Feb 8

Yo! I'm loving the tune you've come up with so far. Working on it currently, hope to send it on back soon.

  • @mccannrs Feb 8

Thanks for your great comment on Life Without a Head, I really appreciate it! I'm glad you enjoyed the light hearted nature of the tune.

  • @heid Feb 7

Thank you so much for listening to my songs and for your feedback! I've got to head out for tonight but I'm excited to check out more of your stuff tomorrow:)

  • @jerrypettit  Feb 6

I was going to listen to your first 2 songs, because I think I've left reviews on the last three--but the links no longer work. Just a little heads up!

  • @faststrings Feb 6

Hey Kurtis, many thanks for your comment on He Got The Pizza I appreciate it! Jerry did an awesome job on it!

  • @cts  Feb 6

Thank you for dropping by for a few listens. Very much appreciated and it's encouraging.

  • @ttg105  Feb 5

I was prepared to poo poo the Double Virgo thing, but it was really great! Yes, something like that would do the trick! I'll try to think of lyrics ...

  • @candle  Feb 5

LOL, yeah typical Candle - not sure what to concentrate on 'cos there's a lot going on 😉 Thanks for the comment - and yeah: don't turn those headphones up too loud.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @powerstars Feb 5

Ooh I can't wait! That sounds like a super fun duet. 😁 Looking forward to it.

  • @powerstars Feb 5

Hey! Sorry for my late reply. I like quite a few of those collab idea. I think I'm between 1v1 Me, and especially Abandoned Mall Days and Cursed Memories at Midnight. Feel free to pick any of those and I'm down to go ahead.

  • @candle  Feb 4

Just shared the folder with you. Let me know if you have any problems or questions.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @candle  Feb 4

I got some drums, piano & organ that you can play with. I thought I had your e-mail so I could share the Dropbox folder with you, but I can't seem to find it. Do want to shoot me an e-mail & I'll then share the folder with you. We can then swap files pretty easy.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @candle  Feb 4

Not a problem. I'll see what I can put together tomorrow.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @candle  Feb 4

Sure, sounds great. I could send you something & we could go from there. Are WAV files best for you?

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @deselby Feb 3

Ok Mr Private Eye, I knew you'd pick me out!

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 3

haha it does completely sound like one!

It's an analog clone of a late 80's digital multi-fx pedal. It is quite keyboardie when the fuzz isn't going.

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 3

Thanks! and that "keyboard" is all coming from the acoustic 😉 it's what I guess you'd call a shimmer reverb with about halfway dry/wet blend and some delay through an amp, all recorded from one mic, or I would turn vox up a bit 😁

secret sauce .........mine's just pink 😉

  • @candle  Feb 3

And I forgot to thank you for the awesome comment on Apex, so: Thank you!

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @candle  Feb 3

Yeah, things are pretty steady here, but we've been having new cases of late. Will have to see what ol'Doug Ford has to say about all this. It'll effect whether I go back to work next week or not. Oh well 😁 Could be worse!

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @candle  Feb 3

Just heard T-Bay Health has declared a state of emergency for the city. Stay safe my friend!

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @anaezia Feb 2

Thank you for listening to my song and hey I love all your songs cant wait to hear more.

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Feb 2

Thanks for the comments/listens! and wow! 3 already! I'll have to come back I was about to call it a night.

  • @candle  Feb 1

Thanks so much for the comment on Before The Rain, Kurtis! Yeah, both my songs today had a bunch of emotion in them. That's a good thing. I'll be back soon to listen to your first two tracks. Rok on!

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @psyt Feb 1

Hey Kurtis, thanks for the comment. 😀

  • @faststrings Feb 1

Hey Kurtis, many thanks for recording the song I'm looking forward to hearing it. Yeah, you can add me as a collaborator that be great!

  • @faststrings Feb 1

Hey Kurtis, many thanks for your comment on Charlie Went Fishing I appreciate it! Yeah, it be great if you want to work on this one I'm looking forward to hearing it. You did an excellent job on the songs at 50/90.

  • @caseewilson  Feb 1

Thank you for your lovely comment on Soul In Motion 😀 Really appreciate it!

  • @powerstars Feb 1

That sounds awesome! I'd love to see your videos if you end up making them. And thanks again for the kind words. I was really proud at how the last video came out, it was a blast 😁

As always, I'm very down for a collab. I'm trying to keep things more basic this year, so I should be a little more freed up xD

  • @powerstars Jan 31

Oh yo, thanks so much for the kind words on the channel! It's been really refreshing to have that second creative outlet.

  • @klaus Jan 30

I had your old username on my watchlist. Now it's fixed. 😀

  • @musicsongwriter  Jan 28

Awesome, thank you so much. Looking forward to collaborating with you. I absolutely love your voice and your songs. Your style is unique and instantly likable. Thank you so much for being happy to collaborate.

  • @musicsongwriter  Jan 28

Hello Kurtis, thank you for your warm and kind message. I treasure my collaboration with you and Kristi. It was amazing to hear your beautiful voice on this song. Thank you again for agreeing and putting so much heart and soul into your singing and interpretation. I'm looking forward to hearing your beautiful songs. Hope we collaborate again if you are happy to. Have a great Winter.

  • @bokonon Jan 28

Yeah I need to pick up some more of the 33 1/3 books. Some of the Daydream Nation one is a bit of a stretch with interpretations, but if you can't overanalyse Sonic Youth then who can you overanalyse? 😁

You ever try 'Jordan: The Comeback' by Prefab Sprout? I got into them via Steve McQueen (and started searching eBay for a Roland JC-120 to copy those Appetite/Bonny guitar tones) but I think Jordan is now my MVP.

Just been squizzing through yr bandcamp. Somehow that soup of Beatles, Judas Priest, The Clash, The Smiths... with unpredictable lyrics, ends up sounding like an unearthed obscure hidden gem indie LP from the 80s... or maybe the 60s?! Unstuck in time. Like you say, Rock 'n' Roll in its purest form.

  • @coolparadiso  Jan 28

Good to see you Kurtis, come on man rock it!

  • @ttg105  Jan 27

Definitely up for a Lester's Wicked Kiss song!

  • @powerstars Jan 23

Hi Kurtis! Happy to see you back again. Eager to get into it!

  • @klaus Jan 22

Hi Kurtis. Good to see you here too. Have a great Fawm.

  • @lvgd09  Jan 19

Hey Kurtis, how is it going? I'm working hard to bring my skills back. I don't have your email address but you can find mine on my page. See you soon. I am continuing my study of audio production again today. Looking forward to working with some of your tracks.

  • @g3darnell Jan 13

Me and Nosmo have got an album coming out on one of these micro labels that proliferate on Bandcamp in mid Feb so that should be interesting.
I guess your band have been unable to practice with the Covid restrictions? I hear it's bad now in Ontario. My son's band were doing really well till Covid hit in March '20 and all gigs have been cancelled ever since. It's ruined the impetus they'd created.

  • @g3darnell Jan 12

Howdy, so how's the meanest guitar slinger in the North East doing these days? I'm expecting this year to see some Wanted posters up around here with your name on 'em, for guitar wizardry.

  • @ianuarius  Jan 12

Helloooo!!! Yea! Shuka Saito is the bosss!

  • @candle  Jan 11

I think I had a snowy one a couple of years ago, that might be what you're remembering, maybe? Hopefully you & yours are doing well in T-Bay. I'm looking forward to your songs this year 😁

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @lvgd09  Jan 10

Hey Kurtis, I was thinking something like an 8 minute guitar jam. That would blow the roof off of this place.

  • @lvgd09  Jan 10

Hey Kurtis, I'm almost ready to rock the house. Always great to see you and I'll be around and posting throughout FAWM. If you have time to do a collab I think that would be awesome? That said, I have nowhere near the skill on guitars that you do. Still, I can collaborate and have done so many times exchanging the high quality tracks. Only the best and I don't like mixing with mp3. Okay, I will see you soon and thrilled that the site is open for a new musical journey. I'm totally into this years FAWM. I even paid my $10 bucks just now.
