2019 will be my 7th FAWM! I am more excited than ever to write some songs and listen to those of all my favorite FAWMers!
--------------------------------
Every year I say this is the one where I'll release my first CD but still I do not seem to have the time to actually do it. Maybe this year will be the one! And actually, it will likely be a couple of albums because I have some country stuff and some rock stuff that don't play well together! Here are several songs that will be on the CDs!

A few years ago I had a modicum of success producing and selling royalty free instrumental tracks. I stopped due to a lack of time but I have recently started up again. Below is a short video I created featuring 10 of my top tracks!

https://youtu.be/sotkB5b3IgQ
--------------------------------
I live in the Chicago area, previously from the San Francisco Bay area and originally from western Kentucky! I love John Prine and Led Zeppelin, Hank Williams and Sia and Lorde and Eminem, Gillian Welch and Pink Floyd and Foo Fighters, New Grass Revival and Yes, Neil Young and Jethro Tull, Dolly and Taylor and Gaga and Amy and Madonna and Tammy, Willie and Waylon and Hank and Johnny and Merle and George, Elvis and Pearl Jam, the Jackson 5 and Michael, Prince and Jimi, the early Beatles and the later Beatles! There is very little music I don't like!

I use Reaper on Windows for my DAW. I record mostly with a Zoom H4n handheld digital recorder using its multi-track mode so I can easily record multiple tracks.

I play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, tenor guitar, baritone guitar, resonator guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and harmonica.

Thanks for that 200 sticker... It certainly was a nice surprise.

I’m no biblical scholar either. Requirements of β€˜fearing God’ read more like respecting God than they do β€˜be afraid and tremble and worry if you’ve sinned unintentionally’. At least to me, and so it seems to most biblical scholars. I don’t claim to understand Revelation in any way and certainly won’t try to pin down when it is happening (or has happened). If we are to fear angering God, then the most famous songwriter in the Bible and maybe of all time would have been zapped by an angry God many times. I’m talking about David.

So many of the Psalms written by David have him lamenting to God that God has forgotten all about his life of strife, but david will then turn right around and express thanks as well. And he was considered a man after God’s own heart.

Perhaps consider reading a more modern translation where there are more ancient manuscripts available, like the English Standard Version.

Btw I have been enjoying the Robert Frost that became public domain.

(Continued again) group. We should collab sometime. 2020?

  • @scottlake  Mar 23

(Continued - thanks FAWM!) They are as far from the meaning of the word 'evangelical' as can be imagined, and yet they wear that badge. I have had to distance myself from it, even though what it really means is what I believe - sharing of the good news. They align with Trump because he promises them to preserve what they think they need in order to be free of fear: guns, freedom from actually taking care of unwanted pregnancies in the most difficult way - raising the children, freedom from temptation, etc. Sorry, Jesus Himself told us that life would be very difficult and we would be persecuted if we aligned ourselves with Him, but to take heart because He had overcome the world. The current political label of evangelical can be equated with those who seek comfort as the ultimate goal. They seem to be looking past all un-Christ-like behavior in their elected officials (it's not just Trump) in order to preserve that comfort. It is very sad to me as I see friends and family in this

We will have to agree to disagree on what is and is not in the New Testament and whether or not there is reliable historicity there. There's a pretty lively debate on this wikipedia article on that topic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histori... (look at the talk link). For topics where there is significant debate, wikipedia is pretty interesting because it is uncensored for the most part. I'm on perhaps my 7th or 8th read through the Bible, in my 4th or 5th translation, and I don't see fear tactics used in the NT as you elude to them being there. That's not to say the way I was raised and the church denomination I was in tried to make it seem like salvation was earned rather than received as a gift. Here's my perception of the trump-licals: Most of them don't actually believe in the Omnipotence, the Omnipresences, nor the Omniscience of God. Their lives are a pinched existence of fear of their way of life being taken away from them. They are as fa

I think it is basically how one views the gospel. To me the Gospel is good news about what was done for us, instead of just good advice about how to live. There is a huge difference in how one lives, in freedom or in fear, based on the difference of those perspectives.

  • @leomozi  Mar 15

Thanks for your comments on β€œWho Let the Dogs Out?” You totally got what I had in my head the whole time but didn’t put in the lyrics: the culprit behind the dogs’ disappearance was the tornado itself, and I think they’re all unscathed.

  • @sherrycanary  Mar 6

    Hi John
Thank you for your sweet comment on my Club Midnight song. I like doing FAWM songs to kick things off and get in the mood πŸ˜€

  • @sbs2018 Mar 6

Thanks for the comments on β€œTequila Take Me Home” and all the FAWM fun!

  • @infilktion Mar 5

    Thank you!

  • @quork  Mar 5

    Totally!! πŸ˜€

  • @infilktion Mar 5

Thank you for the comment on My Internet Boyfriend. It is completely autobiographical. I met him on a Star Wars message board and he started talking to me because of a date. My little sister really was worried he'd turn out to be 40 instead of the 18 he claimed, but her fears were for naught. As a nod to how we met, we had a lightsaber fight during our wedding reception. Thanks for listening!

  • @quork  Mar 5

Done! I’m picturing Alvin with a double whiskey in one hand, cigar in the other and panties on his head.

  • @cts  Mar 5

Congrats on the win, John. I regret not being able to work together this time around. Hopefully our moment will come soon enough. Hope all is well.

  • @cactuspie Mar 4

Thank you for listening to and commenting on Just Another Voice In the Choir! In the area where I live there is a great feeling of community among the musicians and artists. This song was inspired by that feeling. I'm glad you enjoy it

  • @kovbleu  Mar 4

Thanks so much for listening to "The Steady." I appreciate your comment. πŸ˜€

  • @acousticmaddie  Mar 4

Thank you for your kind words on Bosses song and for continous support. You are awesome.

  • @sunnymae  Mar 4

Awhhh...thanks for the Fawmtalk links John. Yer the best πŸ˜€

  • @jwhanberry  Mar 3

Thanks, John, for the way cool wordcloud. It is my pleasure to manage the Century Club. I love this place.

  • @jwhanberry  Mar 3

  • @hoppiern  Mar 2

Thanks for listening and commenting on my song! Much appreciated 😊

  • @writeandwrong  Mar 1

Congrats on your trophy!!! Woot! Woot! Thank you for your kind comments this month! Appreciate it!

  • @oneslowtyper  Mar 1

Way to John! It just wouldn't be FAWM without seeing 14+ on your page. I feel like I spent more time shoveling snow this year, but in the end we both reached at least one of our goals. I'm sure we both wish we had more time to enjoy all the music created this year, but we gotta live with whatever time we get for "fun time".
    Cheers,
    John

  • @angelinapowersuit Mar 1

Thanks so much for your encouraging words throughout FAWM, John! You're a special guy πŸ˜€

  • @franniezest Mar 1

Thanks so much for the nice comments!!

  • @sapient  Feb 27

Oh man, EasyShed needs that banjo! Bring it! 😁😁😁

  • @cindyrella  Feb 26

Thanks John and sorry I used your name in this one! 😁

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 26

Hey John, I put up a demo of that skirmish lyric "Undertow" if you'd like to hear it.. https://fawm.org/songs/96768/

  • @adnama17  Feb 24

Ahhh, if only I could claim credit for those lyrics! They were all @tcelliott. He writes such good stuff! Thank you for your kind words! πŸ˜€

  • @aprilm  Feb 24

Thank you John! I am so glad you had a chance to take a listen to The Cave of Old Forgotten Women! It's been a struggle this year to do FAWM! I will try to get some listening in myself in the next bit!

  • @sunnymae  Feb 23

Thanks for your beautiful comments on my back to the ocean song!
You asked..."I sometimes wonder why the whales and dolphins went back."
    They were smart? πŸ˜€
PS...putting sounds and narration to this as we speak.

  • @coolparadiso  Feb 23

Thx on the skirmish . The undertaker line only appeared on the review. Had a different line. I was glad to sneak it in.

  • @crisp1  Feb 22

Thanks for your very kind comments about Into the Storm, John. It's not autobiographical. Just wanted a bare-bones anti-war lyric. Stephan's music is beautiful -- he always does such great work.

  • @mustanglola87 Feb 22

Thanks John, It's one of my favorites so far πŸ˜€ xx

  • @haim  Feb 21

Hi John, thanks for the comment on my song, it means a lot man.. I see you are also a bit behind with the songs. Are you going to rock it in the superskirmish this weekend?

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 20

awww, thank you John and loads of hugs for Rose.

  • @writeandwrong  Feb 20

Thank you for your very kind comment on the Gabriel Knight song. It was really all over the place when I posted it lol I've already cut out a couple things and moved around a couple things to make it better than it was and now have a better start to do more with it after FAWM lol Thanks πŸ˜€ I miss Sierra!!!

  • @cindyrella  Feb 19

    Thanks John!

  • @writeandwrong  Feb 15

My gawwwd! Look at you flying this FAWM! I've got some listening to do, I see!!

  • @aesthetic72 Feb 13

oh oh! I see it. it's the little cloud icon. thanks for pointing that out. Fixed!

  • @aesthetic72 Feb 13

It works for me but i'll try logging out to see if I can recreate the error.

  • @aesthetic72 Feb 13

Hey there! Thanks for the catch about my soundlcoud. The entire profile of just a song?

  • @billwhite51 Feb 12

glad you liked the name song, i did sort of see the stones. in 1964, i went down to the arena to try to sneak in, but failed, so i watched them through the glass. the song represents only a fraction of the acts ive seen as i didnt want a song that lasted 45 minutes. thats why it was so hard to write. i had 20 pages of names that i organized according to how they fit together rhythmically and sonically and ended with 20 verses, i think the length is excessive as it is, but in a humorous way. you wonder how long can this nonsense go on, but i think it ends before the listeners patience is totally exhausted.

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 12

  • @jessi14  Feb 12

Oh, gosh the lyrics are so beautiful and I really like the band. Thanks for introducing me.

  • @jessi14  Feb 12

By the way, which band is it? ("Everyone I've ever loved, is still on my mind") πŸ˜€

  • @jessi14  Feb 12

Hey John! Thank you for your kind comment. I am glad you enjoyed your listen, a 101 on "loving people"! Happy FAWMing!

  • @jessi14  Feb 12

    Congrats on your 100 comments , you're a hero!

  • @wobbiewobbit  Feb 9

thanks John, yep the tuning fork was in there... just not mentioned specifically... you mean you couldn't hear it?! πŸ˜‰

  • @dragondreams  Feb 9

    Hey John. πŸ˜€
You're very kind, thank you. I'm really glad you liked what you heard!

  • @angelinapowersuit Feb 6

Thanks so much for your comments on "Cling!" So glad to be back! And btw - if only Prine, Young, and Welch played on the radio all day, the world will still be an alright place πŸ˜€

  • @benjo  Feb 6

    Hey John

thank you so much for those amazing words about my lyric
    Will you keep my grave
it does mean a lot to me to remember those brave souls
    glad you enjoyed this

    Tony

  • @majordanby  Feb 6

Thanks for listening and your kind comments. I’m really struggling with words currently, too much going on that doesn’t need to be written. I’m editing out more than keeping, hopefully little nuggets will find there way through.

  • @allwedoismusic Feb 5

Thanks for the warm welcome! Excited to be here πŸ˜€ Listened to Frosted love, always enjoy the idea of songs based off of poems or other publications! Keep up the good work πŸ˜€

Hey john . So good to be fawming again . I read the lyrics for sweet young hurricane and it really moved me , unfortunately stupid WiFi won’t let me listen . I am camping up in WiFi superior cafe tomorrow to immerse myself . Good to see you ( it’s funny it’s like seeing someone you know but in s different location 😜) .

  • @lvgd09  Jan 21

Hi John, I know you're going to have a good FAWM so I will congratulate you now! Congratulations on your great FAWM! Always good to see you here and 5090. I'd like to learn more about your "zoom" recording process. I have a Tascam similar to your zoom but I really haven't made good with it yet. I can do rough draft but that's about it. Oh, never mind I just wanted to say hello and that I'm here again this year and depending on certain factors (details skipped) I should be back to normal. That means a win in FAWM.
