Influences: Nick Drake, Rickie Lee Jones, Neil Young, John Prine, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Crucial Taunt
The concept of this commitment is horrifying. So, I guess I'm gonna do it. Short on adrenaline these days.
This is my first FAWM -- either by coincidence or necessity, my 3-year-long songwriting dry spell ended during quarantine and I have a throat clenching fear of drying up again, so I figure this is a good way to keep things moving.

Thanks for your kind comments
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you are enjoying the music! Looking forward to checking out yours!
Hey, thanks so much for all of the comments on my songs! I haven't been able to give a lot of feedback this month so I don't get to many comments as a result. Checking out yours now. 😀
No problems - I like working in DADGAD mostly because of the extra resonance of the bottom D - but I do find I end up having to make awkward fingerings to escape the inevitable trap of limited chord choices.
Hi, thank you for commenting on my song El amor que calla 😀
Hey Jenna! Thank you so much for the kind words on “Smoke Follows Beauty” and my jazz effort “The Melting Snow”. Irony... I lost power for two days the day after I uploaded that because of the deep freeze that hit Texas. I’ve been pretty stressed ever since.
And thanks for the tip on doubling the vocals. I’m not sure what that is. Is it copying vocal track and pasting it on another or singing a second vocal track? Same levels?... or one slightly different? Please ‘splain to me.
Oh!... and your comment about “I miss you.” on “Melting Snow”. I thought so too! I was like, “hey that’s pretty cool if I do say so myself. Hits me right in the feels.” So I’m glad someone else got that too. 😁
Hey! Thanks for the sweet comment on It's Okay (which is a working title). You're right that the lyrics, melody, everything has changed a lot since we threw the ideas around all that time ago but your influence is still in there. 😀
Thank you Jenna for your lovely music which I really enjoy listening to, and for the wonderful comments you make on mine. It really makes my day and I appreciate the time it takes to listen and comment the way you do 😁!
Thanks for your kind comment on Wonderland - pleased that you hear a bit of Gillian Welch 😀
Thanks for the input on Terra Firma. It has crossed my mind to end that song on the last verse and I love your suggestions on rearranging the end.
Thanks for the note! Great to hear from you.
Last year was my first FAWM.
and that year I only wrote four tunes..
But I am really proud of those four tunes. I play them frequently during livestreams. (Which are on hiatus since the start of Feb - cause.. songwriting)
This year I'm a bit more organised, less intimidated about sharing (only one takes cause i have no patience for working on production) and have a group of friends from irl that I am helping navigate their first fawm experience... so i am far more on the ball.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from you. And welcome back after a week away! 😀
Ahahaha, I was just thinking we seem to have formed a mutual admiration society! You’re awesome.
Hey, Jenna, great to see you here -- welcome and happy FAWMing!
Thank you for being so nice on my soundboard! I listened to your songs and had to watchlist you back. Awesome stuff!
Thanks Jenna for the listen and comment! It was my first skirmish and made myself really drill down on the prompt. I tend to write and let it breathe for a little while so it was a nice change.
Hi Jenna! Thanks for the encouraging words about my lyrics-only “ukulele identity” song. I couldn’t bring myself to do a phone recording even though what I did upload today still isn’t the highest quality demo. Apparently my ability to record for FAWM is going to be really challenging at best. I mean even now, I am being interrupted... and my spouse can see I’m typing on my keyboard!
Anyway, wanted to let you know I have a demo up if you’d like to hear what I did musically with those lyrics. Take care and thanks again.
@sheslin Ben Folds is one of those artists that I am always surprised how much he's influenced me. I never think of him right away, but it usually comes out when I play piano and then when I think about how many times I've seen him in concert, which is more than I have seen anyone.
Jonatha Brooke has come and gone from the list but is often recommended to me -- maybe I'll give it another go 😀
Also I will check out the Boys of Pele doc - thanks for the recommendation - she is crazy talented. Is Jonatha Brooke on your list?
I never thought about that but the title We Called You Ryan could mean something sad. Good point! Ben Folds wow - huge compliment. I LOVE his song The Luckiest. I am not a musical theater person but every time I write on the piano it tends to happen. I need to figure out how to build and rise without that happening. 😁! Thanks so much for the listen and feedback!
We actually have even more overlap - if you are seeing shows in DC then we don't live all that far apart if you are still there. I am in Howard County MD. I have seen Damien Rice live but sadly I didn't discover him until after he and Lisa parted ways. She is phenomenal as his he. Did you know Tori when she was coming up in DC?
Thank you for your comments on So Long - I really appreciate it! So we are both Nick Drake fans. I did not list her but I love Tori Amos music - Little Earthquakes was one of my favorite albums for a long time.
Thanks for your comment on my puppy lullaby. I just posted a demo
