Artist Bio

Influences:   Everything I hear, probably.

UPDATE: I have written some things! This theory malarkey is certainly broadening
my horizons. Interestingly, I suddenly have much more desire to listen to all different kinds of music, and I think that's given my creativity a kick up the arse too. Even if my overall style doesn't seem to have changed much, I feel like my stuff has a bit more integrity and is a bit deeper than what I was doing before, musically at least. The lyrics are still soppy.

I've no idea if I'll write anything this year. Songwriting dried up for me a while ago as I got sick of the same old chords and patterns. I've just started learning jazz in the hope that a better understanding of harmony will boost my composition skills. I'll try to listen to as much of your stuff as possible.

You're on! Will buy you a drink next time I'm in France. (Hopefully within the next ten years.)

  • @oddbod  Feb 19

okey doke, I'm at work at the moment so it will have to be later this evening. Cheers

Hi John, I would absolutely love you or Estelle to add some violin to Quiet Room. I can send you a version without the guitar.
If you're interested, I also have another instrumental sketch (just a recurring piano theme) which I think would also be great with a solo violin accompaniment - some sort of improv.

  • @adforperu  Feb 17

Oh well that's all totally fair enough then, heh! Awesome track sir.

Thanks so much for the Arthur Russell comparison... Not heard him before and he’s amazing! Discovery of 2019 so far πŸ˜€

Really nice to see you back, John. I downloaded your songs last week and they were predictably charming. Will be back to comment soon, hopefully. (Still chugging through a mountain of work so I can hop back on the FAWM train.)

Anyhow... I have approved your WhatsApp snippet. What's next? x

  • @zecoop  Feb 7

Thanks for checking out the creepy subway song! I added some freaky guitar and remixed, so now it is about 1000 times more creepy, in case you wanted to check that out, lol. πŸ˜€

  • @adforperu  Feb 7

Still waiting for number three. Hurry up

  • @petemurphy  Feb 6

Thanks for your comment. Bonkers lyrics are kinda my trademark. Ha ha. Happy FAWMING

  • @corinnelucy  Feb 4

Thanks for the comment on Turquoise Eyes (which will probably get a new name shortly as that one is terrible) - it's a definite Laura Marling rip-off, well spotted πŸ˜†

  • @judypie  Feb 4

Haha thanks! Sounds like a tasty cheese!:)

  • @hamiltonpoolhall  Feb 4

Good to see you back, and thanks for the kind comment on "Gone Gone Again." As far as the guitar sound - there's a nerdy breakdown in my bio of the gear involved, but it's basically just putting a single good mic up somewhere in between my mouth and the guitar's sound hole, and just fooling around with it for a while to get the balance right. Also rolling out a fair amount of low end (200k & below) to kill the boominess. It's also a medium-sized guitar, and mahogany, which tends to minimize the low and and sound more inherently bright and crisp than the classic dreadnought or other big guitar, which is usually rosewood and darker and boomier to begin with. Don't know if that helps but I hope so!

  • @saumera  Feb 4

Awesome, I look forward to it!

  • @saumera  Feb 4

Hey man, thanks for the kind words. I'd love to collab! Shoot me an email. If you've got any ideas brewin, I'd be more than happy to check them out and come up with ways to contribute. I don't have too much gestating at the moment, maybe a chord progression, so I'm more than happy to let you drive.
