Amber Neff (Shiny and the Spoon) 15

Cincinnati US   Feb 5

Artist Bio

Influences:   Time, pressure and deadlines...? I'm using "life events" as inspiration for songs. I have two small kids, a job, and perpetual mounds of dishes and laundry, so most songs are written in about an hour and recorded one-take using my phone and some free app I downloaded. Super rough but fun! Songs in preferred order: Birthday Bubble Bath Valedictorian Complex I Don't See You On the Menu Damn The Man First Speed Up Break You, The Screamer Pretender I Can't Remember Don't Ask Me About It Father Time Death-Defying

Founding member of the Cincinnati folk band, Shiny and the Spoon, on hiatus since 2015 due to having kids and pandemic craziness.

Using quarantine to get back into writing music, because I miss it.

Hi..gotta listen to few of your tunes #tit4tat time

  • @brisk  8 weeks

Thanks for your comments on "Mantra" - I don't know about you but I'm all "songed out" for the moment, but you are right, I feel like I could improve that one with more time. There's something about putting a heartfelt sentiment about your kid into a song that raises the stakes somehow!

  • @shelleroo1  8 weeks

No worries at all! I think I've bitten off a little more than I can chew right now with the tit4tats. Hopefully I'll be able to listen and comment over the next week or two!

  • @richaaaay  8 weeks

Thanks for the listen and comments. Enjoy your time with your kiddos. They grow up quickly...Love your music. Great stuff!!!

Thanks for the pay back. I appreciate it! I'll get to listen to more of yours later.

  • @wolfkier 8 weeks

Oh, and congrats on your FAWM win on your first attempt! #15!!!! In 11 years I think I only won once! Well done!

  • @shelleroo1  8 weeks

    Hey @gnashattack! You into a #tit4tat?

  • @metalfoot  8 weeks

    Very human... LOL
Thanks for the kind words on Something in the Water. It's an interesting, fun, and sometimes mildly confrontational thing to cowrite with one's spouse! (The mild confrontation comes when we hear the lyric in somewhat different musical motifs...)

  • @rickachu Mar 9

Thank you so much for the listen and awesome comments!!!

  • @wolfkier Mar 7

I'm glad I was clear. I suck at clarity. I have heard commented on 2 of yours so far, your first and third. Been so long I've heard from you, and so many tit4tats with happen. I'm not sure if you've been to 2 of mine. See which ones are colored green on my list of songs. Not sure who owes who a visit next. Glad if it's me. Glad if it's you.

  • @lizbrinker  Mar 4

Hey, @gnashattack ! Are you up for some tit4tat?

  • @erucaesounds  Mar 2

You too, and you bet, next year let’s plan to collaborate!

  • @jsini  Mar 1

I just purchased your discography! I am excited to hear it. What I’ve heard sounds great. You guys ought to get back out there!

  • @jsini  Mar 1

Thank you so much for your comments! I should have some time to listen to more or your work!

  • @joefahey  Mar 1

Thank you for the encouragement on “Whatever Happened to Old What’s His Name?”, that was nicely said and I much appreciate it!

  • @erucaesounds  Feb 28

Thanks for your comments on 'Ride In An Open Top Bus'..... underwater....? I wish I had thought of that for a title.... I got stuck on the 'Open Top Bus' thing!

  • @chroes  Feb 27

Thank you *so much* for your super nice comment on "Gravity Shifted"!

  • @wolfkier Feb 27

oh, and congrats on making 14 on your first time out! Looking forward to hearing more!

  • @theodamus  Feb 27

Thank you so much for your comment on “Hold” ❤️ I’m glad I conveyed the scene - it was a beautiful very early morning

  • @mandolinda  Feb 27

Thank you for the nice comments on my songs. Tit4tat was most rewarding for me as well. Because I am new to music/songwriting, I was trying different things with each song. Squirmishes tended to be similar, but again all learning curve.

  • @mattwdunn Feb 27

I’m glad you liked the track. Just deciding whether to try and squeeze another track or 2 in before the end of tomorrow.

  • @mattwdunn Feb 25

😂 I think that song needs to be written. Thank you for the comment on my track. It was good fun to write and record. Not my usual style

  • @stephenwordsmith  Feb 25

I have emailed you the fruits of my self-imposed skirmish. I hope you like it.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 25

The Periodic Table album was a foolish idea (glares at @stephenwordsmith who put me up to it a few years ago) but I'm a stubborn enough fool that I mean to see it through to its bitter end. With a little luck I'll push through to about #55 or so by the end of FAWM.

  • @stephenwordsmith  Feb 25

Hi, Amber. Everything's already been claimed, so I'll have to write you something bespoke. I'll see if I can do it under skirmish conditions (this does not constitute a pledge)

    Talk soon!

  • @mrtylerlarson  Feb 23

RE: Night Life - Hey Amber! thank you so much for taking the time to listen and leave a comment on my track! I'm super glad that your children enjoyed the dance element! Definitely the vibe I was hoping for! Thx so much for your comment! I appreciate you! 😀

  • @blainev83  Feb 23

Aww. Thank you! Love to you and yours as well.

  • @saltyjohn Feb 21

    Hi Amber,
Sent you an email, fine by me, good luck with the project

  • @sheslin  Feb 20

You did a great job for your first time writing music to someone else's lyrics. I think this is the best part of FAWM - so many great lyrics out there. I go shopping all the time 😀

  • @saltyjohn Feb 20

    No problem, Amber.

  • @coolparadiso  Feb 18

    lyrics sent!

  • @coolparadiso  Feb 17

    can I email lyrics somewhere!

  • @shelleroo1  Feb 17

Dirty Western! I love that! Going to add it to my tags. 😁

  • @gnashattack  Feb 17

    Thanks, @tunecat! I'll check them out 😀

  • @tunecat  Feb 17

Hi, saw you'd like to collab with some lyrics.. Here's a lyric of mine (no chorus tho.. knock yourself out!!) if it appeals.. it's yours !!

  • @sourcedecay  Feb 17

Hi Amber! Thanks for your comment on "Sail"! Sorry for the late reply. I'm playing catch up! I checked out that Cat Stevens song you mentioned it made you think of (If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out). It's got a nice vibe

  • @radiobenedetto  Feb 15

That story about the Aviator Ghost is a doozy! Forgot to mention that I have a line “spirit aviator” in my song Fascinator but the meaning is very different. Cheers!

  • @pabrizzer Feb 14

thanks for the listen to 'you can’t say you didn’t know that this could happen' yes playing baritone ukulele

  • @rickachu Feb 13

Thank you for the listens and kind words❤
I like to use Serum (software synthesizer) to make all the weird wub wub noises🙃

  • @jsini  Feb 11

Thanks for commenting on Bury Me! Appreciate it.

  • @gnashattack  Feb 8

To provide some more inspiration and to make it easier for me to write 14 songs in a month, I'm attempting a kind-of concept album. Each song will be about/inspired by a major life event moment. "Father Time" is kind of a mid-life crisis song. "Valedictorian" is based on high school experience. I'd love advice on other life events to write about. I'm going to try birth, death, love, first heartbreak...? Any ideas?

  • @terriellen  Feb 8

Cant play your song valedictorian I was going to Zong it. Its locked one must have permission.
