Influences: A lot of you wonderful Fawmers!
Eric Distad is a singer/songwriter from Oregon. By day, he is a mild-mannered IT Professional, but by night he is a not-quite-as-mild-mannered musician...
This is his EIGHTEENTH FAWM!
Again this year, we are publishing our Geeky tracks as collabs with our band account @thefaithfulsidekicks.
Looking for the Geeky combined talents of Eric and Jen - Head over to @thefaithfulsidekicks page. 😀
BTW - The Faithful Sidekicks have three CDs out! The third one - Our Kind of Strange - just launched on Bandcamp last week!! (BRAND NEW MUSIC, Y'ALL!)
I'm not sure what this year will bring... that's why it's fun! 😀
Update:. We lost power on Friday night 2/12 due to an ice storm. Current estimate for power restoration is evening of 2/18. Also have nearly no cell reception, so... Yeah. Still writing, but otherwise out of action for a while.
UPDATE!! 2/19 - Finally back! YAY! 5 days without power and 7 days without Internet and as of 7:00 PM PST everything is back in business! 😀

Thanks for your comment on "Refusal to Dance". I always love it when our songs about books we love make others interested in the books. In fact, I have stumbled across several good books due to falling in love with the songs filked about them.
Thanks for the comments on Another day of Warfare. I was aiming for a 3rd succession war vibe. The Battletech we played in the late 80s. I was going to transpose to Dm, and then forgot. Then again, since Dm is the saddest of keys Emb might be bettr.
Hi Eric, thanks so much for the note are kind words on Howl'n. Jen had sent me a note earlier about a Forum thread where I could learn a lot about the genesis of FAWM. I've been so busy listening and commenting on others music that I have had the opportunity to dig in to the Forum thread yet...But I will. If I have some lingering questions after doing so I'd love to circle back.
It's so random that I found FAWM but I 'm so glad I did. I got a late start but dove right in 110%. The community aspect is just incredible. It's been one of the most enriching experiences I've had in a long time. I feel very fortunate...Thank you so much for all you and Jen do to make this happen. It's a real gift.
Thank you Eric for the kind comment you left on my song yesterday, I very much appreciated it!
Sleep: about 7 hours a night
I write sketches in February, usually no more than 30 min/song (seriously) which is probably the biggest ingredient to the prolificness. Years of trombone playing and singing in choirs means I can nail a lot of vocal performances first or second take.
As far as the Periodic Table series goes, yes, I will be releasing it at some point, and it will likely have some sort of friendly Creative Commons licensing on it for friendlier use in school or educational environments.
Thanks for your comments. yes the jazz waltz was scored, I seem to do that quite a bit now. Must be the side effect of doing so many arrangements for my (former) big band.
I appreciate all the great music you have contributed as well.
thanks! first time in ages... hopefully not that last. (if you're being pedantic i only finished 13, but imma finish that 4-track collab as soon as it arrives in the mail.) feels good. 😀
Has anyone ever told you that you're a very nice and kind person? 😀
Just commented on your instrumental then came to look at your bio...18 years of FAWM!!!! Wow, lucky you. It would be interesting to know more about FAWM's evolution. I just stumbled onto it two weeks ago.
Thank you for all your comments today. Glad you got power back 🧡
Thanks for the wonderful comments this year, Eric! That last one, I don't quite know where it came from, but I'm glad someone else liked it as much as I did!
Ice Storm !!! I thought you and Jen were in Portland. Impressed by your perseverance.
Thanks for your comment on "Low Expectations" - music is posted now.
Thanks for your kind words on "Who's in the Chimney?"...the music is now posted, and yes -- I think I need to hear about the duck.
Thank you for your comments on Baby Yoda. I keep his (her?) on my desk to remind me to "not be a turd" when I have to communicate with a certain ex-spouse. LOLL. I too can't stop myself from smiling very time I see that contented face eating a frog.
Thanks for your comment on Rise Again! The music is now up to listen to... 😀
Thanks for the kind words on Rain in a Desert. The hook line and some of the associated imagery came to me when driving home. I pulled into a bank parking lot to record some notes.
I very much appreciate your entirely inaccurate view of me as someone who could play a jazz guitar solo.
Thank you for the comment on Han's Falcon! I look forward to singing it with people!
I'm assuming my SSL problem is fixed now with my songs?
Fabulous start my friend and look forward to many more. I am busy working on some now.
Wow, 18th FAWM! Impressive. Thanks for saying hi.
Thank you! Looking forward to all the new music in the works!
Hi, Eric! First song is up -- a little slow due to late (for me) night song circle at Conflikt, and audio will have to follow. HAPPY FAWM!!!
Sending love. Have a great FAWM
Wishing you a happy FAWM and thanks for the welcome!
Great to see/hear you and Jen over the weekend. Two songs so far, things are looking up songwriting-wise. 😀
have a good one, eric. i'm looking to do as much as possible in the first week, because things get busy after that... (though my first day is almost over already, and all i've got is one little instrumental bit...)
Thanks for all that you do. Happy FAWMing!
Hi Eric, happy FAWMing. How long have you two been in Oregon City? I moved to the Portland area from Austin, TX in 2015.
Hey there Eric, happy FAWM!
Hey fellow (new) Oregonian! Happy Fawming!
Have a fun FAWM - whatever that means for this year!
Have a prolific FAWM 2021
Are there any ports in Portland? Or do they drink port? Either way, congrats on beating the sea shanty revival by a solid twenty years (at least).
Yeah, I'm really fond of that collab too!
Eric! Looking forward to more of your awesome pizazz!
Looking forward to this year and what it (might) bring. I too love how every year is something crazy and different.
All the best for FAWM...and other stuff too. 😀
Hi Eric! Thanks for the electrically charged Doritos 😀
Looking forward to Feb 1st...Sooo need the distraction, creativity and fun of FAWM!
Yay! Hi, Eric! Here's to a great FAWM!
Hey Eric! Love the new record! LET'S DO THIS!
Happy to meet you here once again! Have a fulfilling FAWM and make some weird and wonderful uniquenesses.
Thanks Eric, you have a good fawm too!
yo E. Happy new year! how's the new home/state? Ill be needing to buy the hosting thingy again. remind me of the process? 2020 has erased my brain cell memory capacity...
Absolutely! Thank you for being a soundboard and encouragement!
Hey Eric, cheers to you, you rock!
(waves from NE) hello!! Always good to see you 😀 and who knows, once we make it to the After Times we might even get to do an in-person FOP someday 😁 happy FAWM!
I'm enjoying my "coffee" shirt and your CD! Happy FAWMing!
So great to see you, my friend. We're home. ❤️
My pleasure! Glad I could be of assistance.
Hope y'all have a fun FAWM this year, and minimal web maintenance headaches.
Hey Eric!! Just 1 week till FAWM!
With all the turmoil since last FAWM, & especially since November, it's hard to feel quite as amped up about it.
"Unnecessary creation" just feels a little less necessary than usual.
But...the artists (music & video creators, especially) are arguably the most influential modern-day philosophers, & every day/week/month/year we spend honing our craft is a day/week/month/year invested in contribution to culture, no matter how small our circle of influence.
Hope you have a great Feb./FAWM, no matter how you spend it.
Hi Eric! Have a great FAWM 2021.
May your music be prodigious, your tunings precise, and our intersections frequent!
You too! Glad to see you here. Congrats on the album and looking forward to hearing your FAWMing! 😀
ERIC!!!! We're here. Might as well make it a good one.
Hurrah for FAWM! 😀
Thank you, Eric. 😀
I'm looking forward to hearing what you get up to.
That would be great! I haven't collabed with you since The Tester Tests in 5090 a bunch of years ago... 😉
My copy of The Last Amen is on its way!!!!
May FAWM 2021 be our kind of strange!
Happy FAWMing Eric!!
Have a great FAWM, mate.
I know you just spent *mumblenumber* weeks releasing your new CD, but if you're back for FAWM this year, may it be amazing. <3
There are a few spambots that are leaving messages on my soundboard. Not quite sure how to get the whole profile posted here. Never had to do it before. There are three of them. I'm sure the comments will be deleted when you clear the forum up, but figured you might want to do whatever it is you do with bots before that happens.
