Donna 13

Artist Bio

Canadian living in the Netherlands. Freelance copyeditor.

ELEVENTH year FAWMing. I love the madness, the camaraderie, the creativity... 😀

MOST of all I love playing in this huge cybernet sandbox, where everybody shrieks and giggles and throws the sand and their songwritery toys all around and nobody gets hurt. 😀

No fixed agenda this time around. The year 2019 was particularly difficult, ending with the death of my daughter on 24 December. And on 18 February 2020, I lost a precious sister. Still trying to gather my inner forces. A few of my lyrics will likely reflect this.

If I do write any lyrics, a couple will be earmarked for one of my regular collaborators. I may or may not get to 14. Doesn't matter. I look forward to reading/hearing what everyone else is doing. And roll on the skirmishes! 😉

DISCLAIMER: Any lyric I post is always a rough draft. It is likely to be revised/rewritten later. Therefore, collaboration songs during FAWM should not be considered official joint works, or posted outside of the FAWM site. Unless otherwise agreed - and I AM open to post-FAWM possibilities 😀 - contributions will be individually owned. This means that each party can use his/her own specific creative contribution for other purposes once FAWM is over.

PLEASE ask first if you'd like to collaborate. It's possible a collaboration is already underway with someone.

About CRITIQUE: No, thank you. 😉 For constructive critique, I post my lyrics to a designated songwriting forum.

Thanks so much, Donna. I shared your "I'll be Fine" with a dear friend who recently lost her wife and she thought it was delightful. It's wonderful that you can bring a feeling of hope to others out of your own deep loss.

  • @sbs2018 Mar 10

Thanks for your sweet comments on my poem, “Somebody Their Their Life Away Today.” I ended up taking the idea and building an EDM song around it called “Tonight I Won’t Be Sleeping.”

  • @crisp1  Mar 3

Thanks for the really nice comment on Hung Up on the Thorns. Susan did a really nice job on it. I'm not in love with all my lines and will probably tweak it, but that's FAWM for you!

    😀

  • @emkaydeebee  Mar 2

Thanks for your comment on Finale! Yes, a whole musical, I’m genuinely chuffed to bits! I kept talking about it at previous fawms and even wondered about using 50/90 to do it, but you know, life... I think the short time to get it done really worked for making me knuckle down 👍🏼

  • @scubed  Mar 1

I somehow missed seeing the note about your recent losses until now. I’m so sorry. Wishing you peace and comfort.

  • @lyricslinger Feb 29

Hi, Donna, thanks for your kind comments on my song. I'm also sorry for your recent losses. I had a bunch of feelings to deal with and musically is the best way for me. I'll make a more professional-sounding mix of this and do a video for it.

Thank you so much for your comment on Viriditas. I love that share an appreciation for Badass Von Bingen. 🤘 Also, thank you for reminding me of Rabia! I haven't read nearly enough of her and I adore Hafiz, so I know I need to dig deeper into her writings.

  • @dannyk1  Feb 18

Thanks for taking a look at You Can't I Didn't Try. I'm always happy to see your your name in the comments list because I value your thoughts on lyrics. After reading your remark about sticks and stones I went back and reread that part. The initial meaning behind the line was about trinkets like incense and semi-precious stones. While reading it again, the old saying "sticks and stones may break my bones" popped into my mind and the depth of that line kinda took me by surprise. Thanks Donna! 😀
