Influences: I have no idea anymore. Jangly melancholy pop, maybe. Earnest Americana? Or punk, or whatever. It's hard to tell. Indie something or other? And They Might Be Giants.
2020: I am done.
Many thanks to my amazing collaborators and everyone who took time to comment. I didn't come into the year with a plan, and I love what happened. Some songs will make it into live set lists, some will make it on to playlists, and some will just hold a happy place in my head. Looking forward to a few months off, then back to 50/90 and FAWMStock!
Random note for listeners/commenters: I LOVE reciprocating comments, but I do the lion's share of my commenting between meetings at work and SoundCloud & Bandcamp are blocked by our firewall. If you post your tunes there, I promise I love you and will try and get to your songs later.
I've been doing this since 2009*, and hit my 14 for 6 years running. I took 2015 off (minus one song), started 2016 with good intentions but was short circuited, spent 2017 on a solo project (except for one song), and took 2018 off (just one song). 2019 was back in the saddle with a collab-heavy FAWM. So 2020 is my 12th-ish outing. Or 9th in 12 years if you're being technical. Anyway, it's a lot.
* I wrote and played the music for a tune on the Auto Pseudo Mondo CD in 2008 (with @mixtapesandmeltdowns, but just as a one-off. I wasn't really FAWM-aware at the time.

Dang, dude! Congrats on the win. Looks like I've got a great deal of listening to over here as well.
Hey! I use Vocal Rider from Waves. It works great and I waited for a sale and got it cheap!
You are so kind!
I’m so down for you to add orchestral accompaniment to firefly, heh.
Thanks for using the full name for glockenspiel, as to not confuse it with the "glock" often referred to in violent songs.
Thank you John for your warm comment on my collaboration with Amanda on I'll Be the One. I'm looking forward to hearing your songs when my computer starts playing songs from the direct player. Sadly at the moment neither on my computer or on my mobile phone I can do this for some reason.
Oh and yes, that last riff involves a downward bend on the first fret of the 7th string, which for me is a low A 😁
Thanks for the listen. No harmonizers were harmed in the making of this song... One of the things I learned the hard way from working with a pro producer/engineer was how to double track harmony leads no matter how drunk I am... 😉
Oh my word - I didn't know this existed... 😮
Time for more toys!
Thanks for the comment on the "Explore the core" song. It's cool how everone finds other things in it.
Soundcloud and Bandcamp blocked? Man some workplaces are petty
Thanks for the comment on Total Rebuild, appreciate you took the time to listen
Thanks for the comment on my song. Starts Radiohead and ends Pearl Jam - too right it does, I love 'em both! 😀
Thanks for coming and commenting--it's all uphill from Peak Misery, or so I'm told...
No trip through FAWM is complete without landing on your page, bro. You rocked our song for Alison years ago (and she and I are still close friends even though our engagement failed). I have lyrics up for my new crush Shannon on my page. Interested in a collab for her rocking Valentine surprise?
Thanks for stopping by and listening. Much obliged 😀
Ah. INTERNAL projects... 💩 💩 💩
Oh, I see. Well I'm sure yours is much more deserving of the awesome theme tune 😃
I am now tempted to xxxHub things. The kitchen is now the FoodHub, the local pub is the BeerHub, and the cat box is the PoopHub. Am I getting the hang of this?
Dad Binky for president!!
Bruh...I totally forgot about that song..Lol. What a nostalgic moment. I don't even know who that guy was...
Hey Binky - would you mind sparing a sample clip or two for the challenge thread? https://fawm.org/forums/topic/10033/ Doesn't have to be fancy, and it definitely can be weird. I'm trying to assemble clips into a song but we need more variety...and I suspect you've got something fun up your sleeve to donate. EDIT: Thank you for digging! Much appreciated.
Bro..I must have clicked on your song at the last moment when it was open.
I think I tried to watch that one ( Jupiter Rising) but just couldn't. Happy FAWMING!
I tried to make an anagram of das binky... and it got weird.
Great to see you back again! I'm looking forward to new tuneages from you!
Let's do the thing!
Hey John! If it's okay I'd like to take the music you came up with for the FAWM collaboration exercise and do completely different lyrics on top of it. The prompt, "Beware of the Hawks" seems to be morphing into more of a "Hawks and Doves" premise which lends itself to more dramatic progression. Let me know if you're okay with this. If you'd like to collaborate on lyrics for the original music I'd be up for that...let me know if you're interested. Good writing to you!😄
Thanks for the encouragement....deep breaths in anticipation....
Good to see you back, John. Have a great event!
All the best with FAWM 2020 for you! Looking forward to listening to your songs and you smashing the 14.5...
Love the idea of old timey Fallout songs!
Hope you have a FAWMtastic month! Great meeting ya at FAWMStock!
Hiiiiii happy FAWM!! 😁
Can't wait to hear it John. Hope you're doing well.
Hello, have a great FAWM! 😁
Ha! You make me smile! This year gives my work and travel schedule as well as playing in 3 bands I will be lucky to post 14! I look forward to your creative genius!
Inconceivable! There’s actually a town in Germany with my last name — so basically, everyone in Germany could pronounce it. It was fucking weird. Good to see you, sir. Hope you’re well 😀. (Also just remembering how grateful I am for you helping me feel welcome at the first fawmstock I attended — that’s one of the neon light moments of my life.)
Oh, damn, you've gone and guessed my plans for Feb.
*tears up notebook*
Ah well, I guess I'll just have to surprise everyone by doing progressive black metal instead.
They'll never see that coming...
FYI I’m not planning on reprising the Badass Riff Contest myself but have a great FAWM nevertheless 😁
I don't play favorites, but if I did.... then I would.
I'm genuinely excited to hear your new thoughts in musical form. I just can't decide whether I'm more accurately on tenterhooks vs. being all a-twitter.
Beats incoming! If only I knew someone that could do anything with them... *sigh*
Woe is me 😉
have the best FAWM this year!
Well hello there, my good man! Good to have you on deck once again! Let's get it started!!
“All writing is just slow improv anyway”. Best comment pre-FAWM 2020 so far.
