Artist Bio

Influences:   Folk, Indie, Pop, Gospel. Music of life. I listen to an eclectic mix. Love strong female singer/songwriters. Dar Williams, Reba McIntyre, Abigail Washburn, Indigo Girls, Pink, Beyoncé, and many of you! Beth DeSombre and Becky Warren's music were introduced to me through FAWM.

This is my fourth FAWM. We’ll see if I have anything left to sing about this time around. My house is still a mess, my soul is still growing, I still have teenagers, and Donald Trump is still pissing me off....so I am sure I will write a few songs in February, but I will probably be listening/reading more and producing less.

I am open to collaboration. Your work belongs to you, and my lyrics/vocals belong to me. I will respect your work and give you credit for what you have done.

Thanks for listening and commenting on my collabs "Hope Beyond Hope" and "Since We First Touched" I appreciate it!

  • @bethdesombre  Feb 27

So close! You can make it!!

  • @goldelion  Feb 23

Thanks so much for your comments on You Are Loved in Every Season! I really appreciate the thoughtful listen. 😀

  • @ceilidh  Feb 22

Thank you for your comment on Remembering Lorax. So far have had positive reactions (tears) from family and those helping to plan April memorial tree planting ceremony.

  • @mmmmarcus Feb 22

Thank you so much for the continued support! And I don't think the writing in itself requires so much production polish, but depending on the songs I can get inspired in the writing when finding sounds and production stuff that works, especially for the more electronic stuff. But most of the times I write with the guitar and just record the song on my phone before I start arranging and producing 😀

You've got a great knack for clever writing, and I love the feeling you put into your writing. Never give up the music!

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 21

Hey there! Just checking in on if you've had a chance to record those vocal takes? Happy FAWMing!

  • @emplate Feb 18

Thank you for your words on "Satan Knows No Safeword"! Yeah it definitely has the darkness, but also a lot of dark humor. I at least was giggling to myself while writing the lyrics : )

  • @sph  Feb 18

Thanks for listening to Into the storm!

  • @jorh Feb 18

Thanks I’ll check out his work. I always forget lyrics are tagged, that’s great advice! Yes I love collabing it’s great to see how people interpret my lyrics and to meet new people 😀 ooo thanks for your comment on ‘struggling to love’ - I’ve heard of Mary lambert but not that song. I just checked it out it’s fab - I love the piano and the spoken words parts are done so well, not heard it done in many songs but she did it so well. It kept the emotion and I liked the clarity of the words. Thanks for sharing

  • @mmmmarcus Feb 18

Thank you so much for the continued support! Glad to hear you enjoyed After The Storm!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 18

    Yea!!! I’m excited too!

  • @crisp1  Feb 17

Colleen, you are too sweet. I have been thinking about you every day because I want to collaborate with you, too! You wrote me at the perfect time because I have just finished something. I will send it to you.

  • @natalieedelson  Feb 17

Thanks for your kind comment on ‘leap’ looking forward to listening to your tunes🌟

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 17

Sweet! While having the same vocalist for all the tunes would be cool, it's not necessary for the demos. And it would be too much to ask of one person during FAWM when everyone is busy WRITING songs. 😀

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 17

Thanks for listening to the new tunes! (And fast!)

What I'm picturing is that the female singer doubles what I'm doing when I'm singing the Grace part, whether the same octave or an octave up would depend on the singer's comfort. I'm fine either way. As for the part where they sing together, I'm thinking unison for now.

If you're still interested let me know. I figure you could just listen to the track in headphones and record a vocal only track and send that to me, if that works?

  • @bradbrubaker  Feb 17

Hi there! You expressed interest in my faith and doubt song cycle where I am seeking female vocalists. I just posted two short tunes--one is the reprise of the other--for which I do not have a female vocalist. Give a . listen and let me know if you are interested. 😀

    Yes!!! Please and no objections!!!

  • @wistah  Feb 17

Thanks for listening to Sarah's song, and for the comparison to Willie Nelson! My Favorite!

  • @audrey  Feb 15

Thank you for the kind words about my song Birth.

  • @ceilidh  Feb 15

Thanks for your comment on Winter Light Festival! One advantage we have is relatively inexpensive hydroelectric and wind power to turn on all these lights in winter! Hope you had a chance to follow the link for the examples.

  • @kc5 Feb 14

Thanks for checking out "It Hurts" and taking the time to share your thoughts. 😀

  • @jorh Feb 14

Ooo I like your thoughts on what to do with “beautiful generation” - I think it would sound fab in punk rock. If you think any of them would be interested in a collab, feel free to send them my way 😀

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 13

Okay! I understand. And I will keep writing!!

  • @crimulus  Feb 13

Hey thanks for the thoughts on Just Like That! I actually started down the road of making it more an evolution song about age (like you suggested -- teens, twenties, thirties, etc.), but it was a combination of that being what I'd done the day before and being super tired.

I think you're right though, as ending my 30s will only be topical/relateable for me for so long. 😀

  • @karenbarr  Feb 13

Thanks for your supportive comments, and questions! Re “it looks pretty bad” it’s definitely an internal dialogue. I think she’s left but returns to look after him. I might flesh out the story a little more

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 13

Hi Colleen, thank you for your kind comments on Open! I’m glad you liked it and are interested in putting music to the words! I’ve been at work so just checking messages so sorry for delayed response. One other FAWMer contacted me and also expressed interest and I can’t tell who was ‘first’. I do not mind having two different versions and I will tell her the same thing, so if you’ve been thinking about music and want to do it please do so. Totally up to you. If you decide not to I understand and hope I can lure you to more of my lyrics ether way. I love your music as you know!

  • @abudabard12514  Feb 13

Ooh lemon hummus, you must be a pisces.

I'm kidding, I have no idea what that means, but a lil lemon can subtly zest your hummus way up. Thanks for your comment on my song! Looking forward to yours!

  • @mmmmarcus Feb 13

Thank you very much for the comment on Fuck The Pain Away! I guess I always tend to have a serious undertone also to the more fun songs. This was one that just wanted to be written, and I enjoyed creating the contrast with the pretty-polished with those type of lyrics. Thank you very much for the listen!

  • @paulharrison  Feb 13

Thanks so much for your kind comments and suggestions on my songs!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 11

Makes sense! Good enough to post is a pretty good standard for FAWM. I definitely find myself revising/polishing as perform them myself. 😀

  • @jorh Feb 11

Thanks for your lovely comments on 'the winds are changing'. I'm sure you would have the skills to pull it off - you've always done the most marvellous job with my lyrics 😀 I look forward to seeing what else you have up your sleeve this FAWM!

  • @mmmmarcus Feb 11

Hey, great to see you again here! Thank you very much for the comment on Carry Me Home. I don't have as much time this FAWM but intend to crank out at least a few songs. Hope you're doing well!

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 10

Hahaha! I'm sure my Mom would have loved a song like "Only Floss the Teeth..." when we were kids 😀

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 10

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 10

Thanks for listening and commenting on my song "Tempting Time", I really appreciate it!!

  • @wsharper69 Feb 10

  • @wsharper69 Feb 9

I would like for you to work with my lyrics. Thanks for the interest.

  • @crimulus  Feb 9

haha -- I'm probably the only person on the planet with "God Shuffled His Feet" in my top 5 (probably even top ONE) albums of all time, so the sound is _definitely_ a good thing to me, but I was more surprised at hearing the association myself.

Keep on keeping on -- it's good stuff.

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 9

Thanks for your compliments on “What Do You Say?” I’m glad it got to see the light of day, musically. I’m really hoping we can finally make that Bloc11 event this time around.

  • @jorh Feb 9

Wow - just heard “I fly”. The melody is stunning. I love the start of the chorus “I fly i fly sky high I fly”, it’s a real ear worm. It sounded eutrophic - you have done a better job than I ever could have imagined - thanks so much for another fab collab 😀

  • @jorh Feb 8

Aww your too kind.. I thought this one wasn’t my best so I’m really happy you like it! Of course you can collaborate on it.. as always feel free to make changes, as i think the rhythm may be off in a few places - no need to ask I trust your judgement. Can’t wait to see what you do with it - I’m sure it’ll be great as always

  • @s7even  Feb 8

    No hurry. Take your time.

  • @s7even  Feb 8

    You got it “smile” 😊

  • @s7even  Feb 8

Thank you very much for your comments on “smile”. It meant a lot coming from you specially since I wrote it from a woman perspective. Thanks again.

  • @mkd  Feb 7

Thanks for your comment on Empty Spaces!

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 7

Thank you for your comment on Hope Beyond Hope. I rarely get into that musical space, but it's a joy when I do visit it.

  • @jorh Feb 6

Thanks so much for your constructive feedback as well. This one just didn't feel quite finished yet and your comments have been extremely helpful!!

  • @jorh Feb 6

Cool thanks for the recommendation - i will check out his stuff and see if he's open to collab 😀
Thanks for your lovely comments on 'with each and every rising tide' and sorry to hear about your experience - glad to see you are now happy and healthy. I really like the idea to put the 'i miss you' before the second and last verses. I originally considered putting it before the last verse then changed my mind haha - but now you have suggested putting it before the second verse as well that works alot better.
I agree about trying to get the same rhyming scheme in the verses. I was thinking instead of changing the second and fourth verse though i could edit the first one to:

I miss when we spoke all day
And I'd listen to every word you'd say
And I'd promise that I would change
Cause I wanna spend the rest of our lives
    Together

Let me know what you think? i just wanted to keep the language quite direct and literal in the verses.

  • @jorh Feb 5

Thanks for you continued support on all my lyrics - it means a lot. Glad you liked ‘with each and every rising tide’. I did imagine it with a male voice like you said - but I remember we said the same thing on ‘cause it’s been 9 years dad’ and that turned out beautifully 😀 So your more than welcome to collab on it if you want, or you can wait and see if anything else takes your fancy - it’ll be great to collab before end of FAWM whichever song we decide!!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 4

Thanks, @colgoo for taking the time to listen and kindly comment on “Never Lookin’ Back!” The harmonies are definitely itching to be committed to “tape.”

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 3

Thank you for your kind comment on Schlaflosigkeit.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2

Thanks and happy to see you here!

  • @jorh Feb 1

    Hey,
Hope you have a great FAWM this year. Had a great time collaborating with you last year - hopefully we can do it again soon 😀

  • @andrewjtaylor  Jan 31

Hoping maybe THIS year I can finally make a FAWM-over party!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Jan 31

Looking forward to observing your continued growth in this creative venue that is FAWM and songwriting, @colgoo. It’s been a pleasure the last few years. Thanks so much for your support. It meant a lot and really kept me going at times.
