Artist Bio

Influences:   Folk, Indie, Pop, Gospel. Music of life. I listen to an eclectic mix. Love strong female singer/songwriters. Dar Williams, Reba McIntyre, Abigail Washburn, Indigo Girls, Pink, Beyoncé, Lizzo, Crys Matthews and many of you! Beth DeSombre and Becky Warren's music were introduced to me through FAWM.

(Pronouns: she/her/hers) Soprano and storyteller with mediocre guitar and keyboard skills who loves making up tunes and singing with other folks. I have been married for 23 years and have two transracially adopted teenagers. Avid reader, puzzler and boardgamer.

This is my fifth FAWM! What!?! Five years ago, I joined mainly to listen to and support a friend....And now, I have connected to other Boston area songwriters, done a bunch of open mics, and written over 30 songs that I would not be embarrassed to perform in public.

I am open to collaboration. Your work belongs to you, and my lyrics/vocals belong to me. I will respect your work and give you credit for what you have done.

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 28

(psst... "Waiting for the Finish" is re-posted as "Bold Partner")

  • @scubed  Feb 27

Thanks so much for the lovely comment on “Devil Peak”!

  • @cairobraga Feb 27

thank you so much for the suggestion in translating "defenestrado". I took it and doubled down on it, making it the full meaning: thrown out the window. 😝 <3

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 25

Thank you for commenting on my songs "Erase Me" and "The Naked Eye"and my collab songs "Kiss Me Again" and "In Her Garden", I appreciate it!

  • @jorh  Feb 22

Awww that’s nice, I often go back and listen to them they’re all different but I also think they work really well together in that adult contemporary lane 😀 I Fly is also super super catchy haha I find myself singing it sometimes!!
Oooo didn’t know you were doing an album soon that’s so exciting!!! Can’t wait to hear it you’ll have to let me know when it’s coming out - I’m expecting a signed copy haha 😉
Thanks I’m glad the feelings mutual - one of my fave parts of FAWM is always our collab. I love Elizabeth and Doug’s lyrics too - they have a real knack for writing and are so creative. I don’t know how they hit so many songs each year whilst keeping the quality so high they have a real talent.
Yes a collab album sounds amazingggg - we’d deffo have to rope in a few other FAWMERS for the ride as well 😀

  • @jorh  Feb 19

Haha I didn’t realise I wrote my first eye song in 2020, it was meant to be 👌😂 yes I’m kind of enjoying creating all these different styles of music, inserting more fun into my lyrics. It was getting a bit samey and letting myself write more freely has kept me more motivated and still having fun 😀

  • @songsarefun123 Feb 18

Oh! Many thanks for your lovely comments on my song. I'll give your music a listen when I get Back home 😁

I'll let you know when I release my songs on Spotify later on. 😀 cheers!

  • @jorh  Feb 18

Thank you haha... I don’t know what’s happening I’ve gone from a barrage of lost-love songs to thinking I’m the UKs answer to Lizzo - I’m not a sure what filth is gonna come out my mouth next 😂 glad you like the change in direction!! Sorry I need to catch up on my listening also can’t wait to hear your new songs, I’m sure they’re amazing as always 😀

  • @mikeb Feb 17

Thanks for the listen and comment on my 'anti-Valentines' song!

  • @cindyrella  Feb 17

Thanks for your comments on my crocus lyric. I think I wrote a crocus song 2 years ago. Ah well.

  • @tamsnumber4  Feb 17

Thank you for your kind comments on my songs, "Wash Me Clean", "Insecure" and collab "Who We Really Are"!

  • @bearclawbillie Feb 16

Thanks for the feedback on Nothing Fits! I have actually found an amazing seamstress friend who makes me custom dresses and even apologized to her for not mentioning her in the song so as not to ruin the metaphor. But she deserves a song of her own!

  • @s7even  Feb 16

Thank you! I’ve been praying forever for the right woman. In Gods timing.

  • @barbara  Feb 15

Thank you for your wonderful comment on Selkie, Colleen. I felt like that one came from a place I rarely touch, and I hope I’ll make it back there again before time is up. Thank you for listening!

  • @jorh  Feb 15

Hey thanks so much for you advice 😀
So many grammatical mistakes haha I should check better next time!! The chorus should have been ‘woman’ not women thanks for pointing out.

Also my original story was the narrator loves this girls boyfriend but the girl is also her friend (plot twist). Hence she feels bad for fancying him and hoping their relationship will break up, she doesn’t want to hurt her friend but also can’t hide her feelings for him. However he’s backing off now as he feels he can’t show attention to the narrator etc. as his girlfriend is rightfully getting jealous cause she knows the other girls intentions. The narrator is unsure if the boyfriend likes her or not.

Loved some of your interpretations though - could be another song!!

  • @bethdesombre  Feb 15

Yes -- I'm mainlining the ginger/lemon/honey right now (and it helps). I'm resting my voice as much as possible!

  • @aneil Feb 11

Hi there! the demo for girl with the voice is up

  • @feralrabbit Feb 10

Hi! Thanks for noticing the references in "One Day You'll Be the One Who Knocks" 😀 I had fun with that one!

  • @jorh  Feb 10

Thank you for your insightful comments on ‘can I even love at all?’. Yes recently I’ve been getting into mixing up the chorus - I’m still trying to figure out what the right balance is. I like how changing it up can add to the story but worried about losing some of the repetition to attract the listener in.

  • @s7even  Feb 10

Thank you! I 100% agree. I’m hoping I can strengthen up the verses to match it when I get the time.

  • @rshakesp  Feb 9

    Thanks! Always appreciate a visit

  • @mikeb Feb 9

Thanks for the listen and comment on my Week 1 Challenge song!

  • @crisp1  Feb 8

Thanks for your very sweet comment, Colleen. If it weren't for talented musicians like you, my lyrics would just be words on a page. I'm very grateful for FAWM and 50/90!

  • @ericdistad  Feb 7

Hi @colgoo - Thanks for your great comments on Truckin' Through The Galaxy. Jen and I are big Chvátil fans. We have played the electronic version a bunch. I actually thought about writing a Dungeon Petz song - because the Dire Bunny is just so darn cute! 😀

We should geek out about board games some time. 😀

P.S. in case it's useful, I'm edistad on boardgamegeek. 😀

  • @cindyrella  Feb 7

Thanks for telling me about the other Clue one! Love it.

  • @zuza Feb 7

Thank you for doing this! It's really so great to hear someone sing my lyrics!

  • @mikeb Feb 7

Thanks for the listen and comment on my blues song, needed to vent last night! (BTW, this really had nothing to do with my soon-to-be-ex!)

  • @mrgee1952 Feb 7

re: collaboration Today I wrote "Black Water Blues" which I wrote today and it is from a woman's perspective in a hopeless situation. I was thinking about Billie Holiday when I wrote. I have no melody so if you want play with it go for it. Perhaps we can exchange e-mails later.
    Cheers
    Chris

  • @s7even  Feb 7

Thank you!!! Am proud of it for my first collaboration where I made the music. Big step for me.

  • @cindyrella  Feb 6

Thanks for your comments and yes, she has the most amazing voice!

  • @zuza Feb 6

Hi! That's great! My email is now public. I would love to hear it, if you don't mind. Not that I'd have any creative input when it comes to music...

  • @cindyrella  Feb 6

    It's incredible! Thanks!

  • @jorh  Feb 6

Aww thanks for recommending mine and Frey’s song. Loved his lyrics and catchy songs last year, and thought moonlight wanderer fit his style so reached out to him. Thankfully he said yes and it sounded 👌👌

  • @zuza Feb 6

Thank you for your comment and for offering to set my words to music. I think it would be lovely if you did. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed.

  • @crisp1  Feb 6

Thanks for all your kind comments, Colleen! And thanks again for Buried. I love it!

  • @jorh  Feb 5

Honestly I didn’t even notice it - I was too captivated with the words and emotion!! It was a pleasure to listen and recommend - can’t wait to hear what else you produce this FAWM 😀

  • @mattlitzinger  Feb 5

Thanks for the advice on singular/collective voice on "You Are The Sweetest Comfort"! Super helpful as I didn't catch that! 😀

  • @cindyrella  Feb 4

    Looking forward to it. Thanks!

  • @cindyrella  Feb 4

Of course! And gender doesn't matter. I hope it can be healing for you.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 4

Colleen, that is truly beautiful! I love the fingerpicking as the backdrop for your gorgeous and nuanced vocals that bring emotion and breathe life into the words. Nice chord change progression at the bridge. I am awed and appreciative Incredible job! Forever grateful for the music you brought to this song and that you have brought to my life!

  • @jorh  Feb 4

Just listened to run, you took it in a completely different direction to what i expected - i wish i could hear the great melodies which you do. Think it might even be my favourite collab of ours (possibly... it’s too hard to decide ha). I loved how you showed different flavours to you voice in the song, your lower register sounded really great!! also the guitar solos after each chorus were inspired - very nice how the tempo picked up like the sound of running. Great choice to strip it back at the end it really allowed the emotion to resonate and stay with the listener!! Also totally relating to the partner situation haha mine always asks if every song is about him and throws a strop... but 80% of my songs I write from others perspectives and just try to relate it to feelings/emotions i have had in my own life.

  • @berni1954  Feb 4

Glad you liked my Calypso Caveman Chef 😉

  • @mrgee1952 Feb 4

Would be interested in long distance collaboration??

  • @crisp1  Feb 4

Just wow, Colleen! Nobody could do what you did with that lyric, it's amazing!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 4

    I would LOVE that Colleen!

  • @tsunamidaily  Feb 4

have the best FAWM this year!

  • @nateger  Feb 3

I appreciate your thoughtful comment on my song! Songwriting and performance has been this journey of self discovery and it's special to hear that what comes through me connects with people. Btw, I'm also in the Boston area so it would be great to maybe meet up at an open mic nearby, if your up for that 😊

  • @berni1954  Feb 3

I am so glad you liked my response to the board game challenge (Clue).
And so glad you picked up the sexual innuendos and the underlying sense of menace.

  • @jorh  Feb 3

Yay!! I’ve pinged it across now I think I’ve got the right email but let me know if it doesn’t come 👌 also if you don’t gel with it don’t worry at all we can always collab on something else during FAWM! Thanks for your comments too I always love your thoughts on what type of music/soundscape the lyrics might fit well with 😀 really insightful!

  • @jorh  Feb 3

    Hey,
I’ve just finished a lyric - and instantly thought it would work great as our ‘collab’ if you would be up for doing one again this year 👍 it needs some tweaking but has a similar feel to some of the others we have done. I think it would sound great with your melodies and tone (it’s a reflective piece which you always bring tons of emotion to!!) let me know what you think, i won’t take any offence if your too busy/ want to try new collaborators 😀 If you want to check the lyric out how is it best to send it to you?

  • @crisp1  Feb 2

Please take You Buried My Voice! And put together that band! 😉 Looking forward to what you do with this, Colleen!

  • @embersofautumn Jan 28

    @colgoo Board Game Challenge--
    Sure, why not?

  • @jorh  Jan 24

Thanks - your comments always motivate me and spur me on during FAWM!! Think your beautiful melodies make my lyrics sound 100x better tho 😀 looking forward to this year!

  • @jorh  Jan 23

Hoping your back FAWMing this year - it won’t be the same without our annual collab 😀

  • @crisp1  Jan 18

Hoping you're around and that we'll have the chance to collaborate!
