Chasing Andromeda 0

Ohio US   Jan 2010

Artist Bio

Influences:   80s synthpop and new wave, 70s old school funk, progressive rock, impressionist and neo-classical era works, most jazz, retrowave/synthwave/chillwave

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to a medical matter, I will not be posting anything this year. Prognosis is good, but I was unable to find much of any time to write this year.

Michael here. I will be working on a new album that will primarily be retro oriented as usual, but I also want to explore some other areas. For example, I got a ukulele and a cajon for Christmas and want to experiment with them. I also will probably write a few stock music tracks as I sell music on Audiojungle and Pond5.

Thanks to all of you who stop by and take the time to listen. Big kudos to those of you who take time to comment.

I released my first album last year, Galactic Taxi. It is 7 tracks long, all of which were composed during either FAWM or 50/90 over the last 10 years or so. I am very happy with the result and appreciate the large number of you who have been listening. I am eternally grateful for you.

  • @johncrossman  Jan 31

Howdy, and thanks for reaching out! We're about ready to do this thing, I guess. I'm terrified/energized in equal measures. πŸ˜€

I'm listening to Galactic Taxi tracks on your site now. So well done, wow. Feel like I'm journeying through time and space (I think I stole that... Mighty Boosh?). Anyway.

Since my understanding of how you electronic wizards manipulate the sounds and make the sound-bytes dance for you the way you do is so limited, this will be fun. If I could, the most helpful things will just be the ability to listen here, and then, if you could, give me a few tips about key or chords or leave those on the song page. Anything else is appreciated, but filling in the gaps and faking it on my part help make up the missing 50% or so to result in a morph. No need to send tracks.

My process is usually to listen to the previous track, let it soak into my psyche, jot notes about the song format, style, theme, chords, key, tempo, etc., print lyrics (if they exist), and then start tinkering with what I want to keep and what I can pull off without straining too many musical muscles.

And if I have any questions about what's happening, I'll ask. Sound good?

  • @andrewjtaylor  Jan 30

Funny. I was only there exploring the forum out of curiosity because I’ve never spent much time there. I don’t produce electronica at all. πŸ˜€ Though I very much want to add in EDM elements to my music.

Edit: I just read your first post more carefully and it's clear your understanding was that anyone posting there would be producing electronica. Sorry!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Jan 30

Hey! Thanks very much for the follow & comment. How'd you come across my profile?

So sorry to hear you had such a negative experience in the forums. We're not living in a very civil time, where certain uncivil behavior is now exempted. I've never spent much time in the forums (maybe 6 forum topics total in 4 years), and I guess I'm better off for it! As much love as there is, I suppose we'd be foolish to think there can't be hate here. Profiles are required to be hate-free, but in the forums, it's apparently open season.

Really cool you got a Uke & Cajon. Those are 2 of my primary instruments. I'd like to hear what you make with them. I can't say my Cajon recordings have come out well, but Uke adds a lot of shine & shimmer when I'm layering 2 guitars and 2 ukes. The uke is such a great instrument for its accessibility.

With the Emulator II arriving in the Arturia package this year I may take the giant leap forward in time from 1980/81 to 1984/85 in my retro stylings - am I ready for the mid-80s πŸ˜€

Hope you have a great FAWM - will be keeping an ear out for your stuff.

  • @judypie  Jan 16

    Hey-o! Cheers to Fawm β€˜21!

  • @dzdandcunfsd  Jan 16

Yeah that's a cajon turned speaker box turned back cajon last year, its well worn and loved! Of course! I'm going to do as many collabs and such as I can this year. I usually go mostly solo with just a few here or there, but I usually get to play music with others all year round too πŸ˜‚
