Artist Bio

Influences:   ...the randomness of life and the beauty of northern Canada and Debussy, Jean-Michel Blais, Satie, Arvo Part, George Winston, Grimes, Abba, Mary Oliver.

I am a songwriter living in Whitehorse, Yukon - northern Canada. My most recent album "Blue Through the Trees" is out now.

In 2018 I started a new musical project, under the name Mayshiner. https://mayshiner.bandcamp.com/releases. This music is all experimental and all instrumental.

This FAWM I plan to do a lot of experimenting with electronic synths and quickly put things together and hear where the dust settles. Mixes will be rough but my plan is to get 14 songs completed. Fine tuning will come later.

Maschine is not just a drum machine but more a looping tool with all instruments. It's worth checking out if that is your sort of thing 😀

Thank you! Drums are programmed but I play all the guitars and bass. And yeah, I very rarely write lyrics.

@tangle hi, can you email me at 1bignorth@gmail.com and we can chat about a collab.

Thank you so much for your kind feedback. I spent about a full day working on that track on and off. I played with The Bloom app on my ipad and amplified it through a little speaker and recorded that into my USB mic on my laptop. That app is so relaxing and fun. I really love work setting poetry to music. Would be lovely to work something around piano if you're interested in a collab? Really enjoying your improvs!

You asked if I use visuals when I compose. No I don't, but I usually like to try and visualize scenes the music drums up in my head, and if a scene comes to mind, as in Birth, it sometimes can shape my music a bit. Usually the visuals come after the music, though, for me. When I first started Birth, I was aiming for a choral piece about Spring, but once I added the cello suggested by my husband, and once I realized the piano part had a bit of a childish nursery feel to it, it occurred to me that the piece should be instrumental only and about a new baby's birth. At the end of the piece, I see the new Mom and Dad standing arm in arm looking down happily at their new baby sleeping. Thanks for asking. 😀

Thank you for listening and commenting on my music.

Thank you for your nice comments! No, I don't play all the instruments on this track - I use RealTracks (instruments played by real musicians) from the software called Band in a Box. I highly recommend it for a challenge like this because you can work much faster with a quite good result. 😀
