Just listened to Bloody Wars. AWESOME!
    Ever write bluegrass lyrics?

  • @adamhope  Mar 1

Hi, just wanted to say thanks so much for your comment. Also I am up for collabs. ๐Ÿ˜

  • @garlajoie  Mar 1

As long as your FAWM page stays up next month, I will likely grab one of your stories and try to add my musical touch soon. I'll be in touch. Take care!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 28

Just listened to "Roses on the Water" from your SoundCloud. What a great collaboration partner and an incredible musician Pavel (and his bro are) is. If he just works on that English, it'd be perfect (update: sounds from his newest material like that's just what he's been doing.). That name, Pavel Guershovitch, certainly sounds slavic, and I do hear some similarities with Russian pronunciation there. It's like a French-Russian mix.

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 28

Just thinking out loud here. Ironically, I just looked Pavel up and found a video of him performing on The Voice Belgique. His pronunciation is natural there, but he likely had a guide to follow and copy in the original. I find some aspects of his phrasing of the lyrics (back to "Living in the Sky") to be non-speech natural, beyond pronunciation, and I think that's what disengages me most as a listener (feels like he's reading words he doesn't understand). If it were an accent only, it'd probably be endearing. Hope I'm not being too critical for you here. The quality is so good in so many ways that I think it's worthy of the honor of such honest and direct constructive criticism. If anything holds your collaborations back, it's going to be these factors I've mentioned.

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 28

Pavel is a great musician, songwriter, and vocalist. I really like a lot about "Living in the Sky." I am a bit of a "snob" when it comes to non-native-English language speakers singing English. My wife is Ukrainian and we've watched a lot of the Ukrainian Voice. It's common for participants to sing a song in English and usually deformthe language to the point of unrecognizability. Pavel's has a charm, but there's something about native English speakers and the aversion to hearing accents come through in the singing of English (it may be the same for speakers of other languages). There's a very small tolerance given in the listener's mind for non-native accents (let's say, going as far as Enrique Iglesias or Shakira). There's this interesting line where it changes from being endearing to being perceived as a hit to the sincerity of the message, and sincerity is the quality of foremost importance in a song (lyrics natural as spoken, music true to lyrics and true to life, etc). Just think

Hi Tony! Glad my words were well received! And I'm glad you appreciated "Pick a Fight." It was definitely one of my friends. I'm looking forward to potential collaboration in the future. I may be doing 50/90, but only as a tool for motivation/accountability so my writing doesn't stop in February (hopefully I've made enough progress facing the impediments to my writing that that won't happen). I don't necessarily want to sacrifice the rest of my life on the altar of songwriting. ๐Ÿ˜€ How's your experience with 50/90 been? I'm intending to do the March (+April) Album Production challenge (just a Facebook thing) so my songs aren't stuck in demo mode. Cheers!

  • @phlecksy Feb 28

Hi Benjo! How are you doing? We did a collaboration last year (Battery's not in the flashlight I think was the title). I didn't see you were here till just now, too late to collaborate now - maybe next year though?

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 28

Your lyrical sense is great. Bloody War seems pretty similar to the way I think. Last year my (unplanned) theme was Interpersonal Conflict. One of my favorites, most produced, has a similar feel to the lyrics of your Bloody War. Itโ€™s called โ€œPick a Fight.โ€ Give it listen, if youโ€™d like (perhaps on March 1st ๐Ÿ˜€). https://soundcloud.com/andrewtaylormu...

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 28

Bloody War was really cool. Quite tough to understand those great lyrics with that substantial French accent but those words were great. Glad to have stumbled on a great lyricist (saw your post on @crimulusโ€™ wall).

  • @garlajoie  Feb 28

Tony! Hope you have had an excellent FAWM, looks like you have been busy as usual. I unfortunately fell far behind with life's responsibilities, but have still had fun nonetheless. May grab one of your lyrics for a last hurrah tomorrow, stay tuned...

  • @mikeb Feb 26

  • @crimulus  Feb 12

Thanks Tony for the lively reaction. ๐Ÿ˜€

I have still never done a collab, but two years you've asked me, so I think maybe this year I will try. Your lyrics definitely fit well into what I do usually. Maybe this weekend I'll pick through and see if something stands out and give it a whirl.

  • @mishykatz  Feb 12

Hey man great to see you again! My time is super limited this year so I doubt I'll have time for collabs. But post FAWM we could still do something. You still have my email from last year right?

No problem at all. It was a pleasure to do.
