Influences: Queer folk musicians (and queer folks in general), the songwriting communities at the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Rocky Mountain Song School, my mental health, and so much more.
Hey, FAWM friends! I’m Alyx.
I’m a white, queer, non-binary human with Harry Potter glasses, fabulous hand knit sweaters (yes, I knit the sweater I’m wearing in my profile pic), a surprisingly curly beard, and a slowly-but-steadily receding hairline. I write songs, and have been doing so off and on for most of my life. I write most of my first drafts with a fountain pen, because it makes me feel fancy. I’ve turned out to be a better guitar player than I ever thought I could be (which is to say: I play passably), and that’s mostly what I write for, but sometimes when I get stuck I reach for other instruments. I live in Chicago with my partner, @fecknom, who is also a musician.
I'd be hard-pressed to name a single genre I don't like at least *something* from. Most of what I write is folky, but I enjoy listening to everything from classical music to death metal.
2020 will be my third FAWM! I have this grand idea (as of mid-January) that I’m going to do an entirely tarot-themed set this year. We’ll see how I’m feeling in a couple of weeks. I also just started learning how to play the mountain dulcimer, so that might make an appearance if I get really ambitious.
No songs by this fawmer (yet).
