This Is Pop

1 March 2021 - Last week I really thought I wasn't going to hit 14 but then a lot of things came together quickly that made it happen.
I think this is the most collabs I've done (9) so that worked out really well, and I'm fairly pleased from a quality point of view about what I've written/produced, though I always feel I could try to be more experimental.

Big thanks to anyone who's listened or commented. Sorry I couldn't reciprocate with all of them - I probably won't quite top the 400 comment mark but I feel like I've done okay on that score.

Keep safe

Likewise, Tim. We must have internet-known each other for getting on twenty years now. Bless this series of tubes. (Though if overseas travel becomes a thing again and we ever happen to be in the same country, I wouldn't be averse to sharing a non-internet beer.)

  • @philnorman  Mar 1

Congrats on another FAWM win, my friend. Now I need to listen to them!

  • @saxylizbeth Mar 1

Hiya - thank you for your comment on Drunk Bunnies! I have to endure Tom Baker impressions most days and the scarf is pride of place on our hat stand....

  • @adforperu  Feb 28

Haha, I'd like to know how I could improve on 7/10 without getting it exactly right ๐Ÿ˜‰ The track is Private Eyes, and it's the guitars right at the end! I'm way behind on my listening (got 4 of yours to go!) but well done on surpassing 14!

  • @kajati Feb 28

Its been a pleasure sharing my first Fawm with your music and hearing what you have been writing. For me this has been a mind blowing experience to know that there are so many people out there who express through music. I don't know weather you have an open mind to collaborations during the rest of the year, I will be publishing a page calles "Logistic services" where by I will be publishing audio stems and asking for random contributions, your welcome to it. it will be a total experiment and no body will hear the stems that the others are sending till it gets mixed at the end. Love to count on your collaboration if you into it, if not that's totally cool
    Have a good year @oddbod

  • @heidiserwer  Feb 28

Thanks for your kind comments on Letโ€™s Get Away. I too hear other instruments on that track ;and a few others) but time and lack of multi-instrument ability preclude me from doing much else, alas. It has been a fun FAWM though!

  • @metalfoot  Feb 27

I never came up with anything I thought would be worthy of you. Will try again at 50/90 and/or FAWM next year!

  • @cts  Feb 27

Hey thanks for the latest listen. Just so you know, I've been working on a tune now for almost a week and I can't get it past one lousy verse. Believe me, I really wanted to get a collab in with you.

  • @shortdan  Feb 27

Did you used to have a site somewhere with your old FAWM stuff archived or did I imagine it?

  • @leepat  Feb 27

Thanks Tim, happy you made it happen - definitely worth the wait! And of course it sounds more than alright ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @iwilleatyou Feb 26

Yeah no shit I'm not gonna thank you for the comments. I don't know whatever gave you the impression I would stoop so low.

  • @psyt Feb 24

Lyrics done, and they're waiting for you in your email. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @psyt Feb 24

Okay, I'm writing some now. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @psyt Feb 24

Hey Tim, are you up for providing a vocal to one of my tracks? ๐Ÿ˜€
I got kind of stumped on it with scratch vocals I made that sound kind of good, but they somehow felt like not enough, so I took a break at that point. Now I've got back to it, and while I could submit it as is, I have a feeling you could help make it more special. (the original vocal can be kept or removed, up to you.)

  • @davidtaro  Feb 24

Hiya Tim. Fully up for a collab next time round, would be an honour and a privilege ๐Ÿ˜€ I haven't actually done one before (this is FAWM II for me), so would be an exciting new experience. Cheers for the listens + comments too!

  • @robynmackenzie  Feb 24

Got some vocals in the dropbox for ya! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 24

Ah jeez it's the old 'have a banana!', isn't it? Ha. Probably just as well I didn't notice that while writing the song - would have gone in a very different direction!

  • @deena  Feb 23

Thanks for the nice comments. Anytime you'd like to play along - I'd be thrilled.

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 23

Thank you! I love what youโ€™ve done with that lyric. As I had hoped it was just miles from what I could conceive for it and I like how it feels more real and less melodramatic in that setting.

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 23

Not interested in cheesy pop? You know me better than that!

  • @judypie  Feb 22

God sorry dude, I ainโ€™t had time to listen properly yet and thereโ€™s only a week left now innit. Iโ€™m in the process of buying my first house so probably canโ€™t commit to doing anything for you sorry ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  • @davidtaro  Feb 22

Thanks Tim, appreciate the comment. It took every fibre of my being to resist the urge to add those drums!!

  • @erucaesounds  Feb 22

Thanks for your kind words on 'Coral Moons' much appreciated!

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 21

    Go ahead and post! Fun!!

  • @oldlostjohn  Feb 21

You'd be surprised to find that my 'curse' as you call it translates as 'pocket' and nothing else. It is however close in pronounciation to another much less innocent word commonly used as a curse, but I have developed a habit of mispronouncing it to avoid going to hell when I die. It's a bit like you would say 'fug' or 'puck' instead of that other ubiquitous British word.

  • @specious Feb 20

I am an ignoramus. It is too long since I watched it last. I shall have to track a copy down.

  • @specious Feb 20

That thing about hairdressers is absolutely fascinating. You know what? You should talk to someone at the NHS about whether Zyprexa is right for you.

  • @kristian  Feb 20

hey ๐Ÿ˜€ so I tried stadium verb over it and it all became rather muddy! sounded shite so I removed it before posting. need to experiment some more; got any recommendations?

  • @iwilleatyou Feb 19

I find it humorous that you are talking about getting kicked in the nuts when you don't have nuts to begin with.

  • @heidiserwer  Feb 19

Thanks for your comments on Pine Needles. I labored over that one, though youโ€™d never know given how simple it is. Haha. I actually โ€œborrowedโ€ some of the vibe from NMHโ€™s Tuesday Moon, one of my favorite songs.

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 19

I sent that lyric, Not attached, do anything you like with it, (including passing on it) I'm good with whatever happens.

  • @karlsburg25  Feb 18

Ha ha, cheers mate, and i dearly hope you're drifting off to sleep dreaming of a bunch of working class northerners stuffing fish in their make shift bus freezer ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 18

Ive got a lyric you could look at. Itโ€™s a bit dark...Iโ€™ll email it to you, assuming your mail to link is current.

  • @deena  Feb 18

We actually received "his" and "hers" guitars, because my husband is a guitar player, too. (far better than I am!). I was working in a recording studio and the gifts were from my co-workers and bosses. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @shortdan  Feb 18

A gold star for identification there! It's a mellotron e-bow guitar but with the tape sample reversed ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 17

I'll take that as a no, then. ๐Ÿ˜€ I've been really enjoying your tunes. Keep it up- always feel privileged to hear your new songs.

  • @pippa  Feb 16

and thanks for your supportive comments! It really helps keep the creative juices coming when folks are kind in their evaluations!

  • @pippa  Feb 16

hey oddbod... KOPN.org this afternoon, 3-5 pm CST (that'd be 9-11pm I think your time), somewhere within the second half hour... ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @torosintheatmosphere Feb 16

Thanks for the compliment. I am having some trouble playing your tracks on your page here, but I'm checking out your Soundcloud page linked in the profile and I'm liking the touch of folk pop. Screaming Into the Void has a cool guitar hook in it.

  • @adforperu  Feb 15

Hmmm, no i don't think so? You sounded mega tuned but I assumed that was on purpose!

  • @ajna1960  Feb 15

Yes re new song, thats a good idea !

  • @laytay Feb 15

Burt Bacharach!!?? Thank u. Favrit compliment ever.

  • @ajna1960  Feb 11

Thank you Mr Bod ๐Ÿ˜€ You are added to Summer After Rain !

  • @heidiserwer  Feb 11

Thanks for your comments on Distracted (and others!). I think Iโ€™m essentially writing the same song multiple times but Iโ€™m just going with it. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • @oldlostjohn  Feb 11

Oh, I most certainly follow @hamiltonpoolhall Superb guitarist.

  • @judypie  Feb 10

Awesome dude, though my initial thought was if we were gonna go French, I could sing any old wank? No? You still want the lyrics to be decent?? Ughhhhh, what a slave driver (I havenโ€™t had chance to even listen to whole thing yet).

  • @judypie  Feb 10

Thank you so much for the mail Mr Bod! I am hoping to get some time to music before February fucks off!

  • @celineellis  Feb 10

Thanks for stopping by my songs Oddbod! your feedback is greatly appreciated - catchy, earworms, do appear to be my thing based on what folks tell me for sure. For fawm I limit myself to really quick, normally one take demos. possibly add a harmony on here and there, but thats about it. So yeah, I totally missed that rather long silent section at the end of a song! thanks for pointing it out ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @erelpi10 Feb 10

hmmm, I didn't have a straight path. I have a song in progress I could share with you or I could sing on one of your tracks. I really liked Follow the Moon and your and judy pie's French Paradis song from last year. Also, I notice we both have a love for Casio -- so maybe a Casio song?

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 9

Thanks for dropping in on my page. Itโ€™s been a frustrating FAWM so far but Iโ€™m hoping to skirmish a bit and catch up. Would always be up for a collab if you felt inspired in my direction?

  • @pipewrench67  Feb 9

Well I didn't set out to do but I have now commented on all the songs you've posted to date. I hope you're happy.
Also, curious if you would be adverse to me post your song on Facebook, just my page with a message, something like; Hey I do the FAWM thing every year and I'm doing it again this year, and there are other people who do it is well, and they do it better than me and here is one now (insert song).

    That type of thing

  • @erelpi10 Feb 9

Iโ€™m interested in collaborating if youโ€™re not overcommitted

  • @deena  Feb 9

The song came out great!!! It made me so happy listening to it this morning. I love it and I am thrilled to discover we have a nickname "deenabod!" ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 9

Oh my. I guilted you into listening to not only one, but 2 songs.
    Shame on me....nah:)
It does mean a lot to me that you listen to my songs.
Even if your dance card is filled for this FAWM ,I want to keep the connection.
I love love love your music

  • @ajna1960  Feb 9

Afternoon Mr @oddbod ๐Ÿ˜€ The answer is yes to both, as the buzz one was collabed without asking, so as far as I am concerned it's still available.
If anyone else asks I'll check with you first just in case.
    Happy FAWMing !

  • @petemurphy  Feb 9

Hiya oddbod. It might be that you've been logged out on your phone, and need to log in again. My songs are set to only be visible to logged in FAWMers.
I had this issue a few years ago, and logging in again sorted the problem out.
    Cheers!

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 9

Yes it is one of those metal tongue drums and yes the song is heading into another section but itโ€™s not finished yet. I just thought as I was so far behind this year I would post that much and then finish it later. ๐Ÿ˜€ thanks for listening.:)

  • @daveyboy103  Feb 9

Thanks for your kind comments, Theresa lifted that song to a new level.

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 9

Cheers, Tim. I was already leaning towards a Fairfax. Now let's see... do I write a song, or spend an hour listening to drum demos? Both solid options.

  • @mikedebenham  Feb 9

Hey Tim, could I get a recommendation? I notice you're using Addictive Drums - is there an AD drumkit that you find particularly versatile (or just plain good)? I have the Vintage Dry & Jazz Brushes (both pretty decent and useful), but you've reminded me I have a third drumkit voucher I never redeemed.

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 9

    Hey Tim
Last year I was late to the party, but did get a few good ones in.
This year I came late to the party, but getting into FAWM mode.
You have not come to check me out. I am feeling sorely neglected ๐Ÿ˜€ Seriously, come on by and check my Twisted song out!!

  • @cts  Feb 8

Hello! Thanks for the dropping by and listening and commenting...always means a lot to me. And yes - I will definitely hit you up for that sweet guitar solo! Thank you for the offer!

  • @jbp123 Feb 8

Hey man, how's it going? I fully intend to get some stuff online this year (the road to hell etc...) so I appreciate your dwindling faith in me ๐Ÿ˜

Gonna listen to your stuff today and will get back to you. Can't wait to hear what you've already done!

  • @ayehahmur  Feb 8

Split Enz - now there's a name I've not heard in years...
(I wasn't "scared" as much as "pissed off by the home invasion")

  • @robynmackenzie  Feb 7

    Iโ€™d love to! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @judypie  Feb 7

Cheers dude, not listened yet, itโ€™s been a fucker of a weekend!

  • @gm7  Feb 7

    Thx for kind words.

  • @panch  Feb 7

Thanks for your supportive comments. I see from your London message board post that you're a fellow Palace fan.

  • @shortdan  Feb 6

Burr broke it trying to fix a bug! All working again now ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • @shortdan  Feb 6

I can't play Ad's new one either. Looks like a fairly widespread issue. I'll hang on to the new 'un until they've sorted it!

  • @shortdan  Feb 6

I think something's bust with Soundcloud. All my previous tracks don't show either!

  • @shortdan  Feb 6

Dunno! It's not working - I'm not doing owt wrong either! Weird. Investigating!

  • @deena  Feb 6

Hey...shared some tracks on dropbox! And sent you an email.

  • @iwilleatyou Feb 5

Yes the Pump It Up was deliberate considering we borrowed an 80s chorus? Hello? Earth to Oddbod? Well at least there's good news in not being able to listen to submissions; I don't have to hear your no-talent "music". Did you notice the quotes around the word "music"?

  • @deena  Feb 5

Thank you for sending me such a beautiful song! I love it!

  • @deena  Feb 5

Hey! I love it when you rustle it up! Please do.. Looking forward to it very much!

  • @metalfoot  Feb 4

I'm still mulling various possibilities and I can always construct a lyric. So yeah, I'll see if I can get something to you in the next couple days and you can tell me if you think it'll work.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 4

Would you be open to the possibility of a metalfoot collab this year?

  • @mdavisto  Feb 4

I'm on 98, as it happens. I can only do them in short runs, mostly while waiting to pick up my kids from school. Which is nice because I can listen through the car's sound system.

I'll join you in the executive washroom soon.

  • @bamsekarhu  Feb 4

    Thanks!

I added the #fawmvision tag to the song, but will definitely try to make a dedicated song for it too. Eurovision is life.

  • @davidtaro  Feb 4

Cheers for the comment! It's funny, you're the second person who's said don't apologise for the big guitar ending. I also noticed a forum thread going on not apologising when posting songs. And I totally totally get it... it's just, being English - we can barely say hello without saying sorry in the same breath ๐Ÿ˜‚. Anyway, looking forward to whatever you've got cooking up next...

  • @philnorman  Feb 4

Thanks, as always, for the kind words. There's lots of things I'd do to fix my productions, but given my limited setup and skills, I'm pretty happy with the way these are turning out this year. It's one mic for the guitar and voice together, then whatever I throw on top. I think the last one could be fun to play with for hours, but also just had to call it done well enough for a demo... One day, when we're between plagues, I'd love to sit with you and learn and make music together.

  • @judypie  Feb 4

Hahahaha I am slightly tempted by the lure of singing in โ€œfrenchโ€ again๐Ÿ˜‚ Email me both and Iโ€™ll decide which I will fuck up less?

  • @panch  Feb 4

Thanks for your comments on Hold me in your heart. I'm not really familiar with Noel Gallagher's stuff but it's always fascinating to hear comparisons people make.

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 4

    Hi Tim
Just arrived at the party...and you have 2 in already!
I have one ready to go as soon as I can get it loaded. Great to see you here, as always.

  • @dock  Feb 3

I got a chuckle about your comment about band-in-a-box. I actually played all the instruments in the track. I use GarageBand so some are canned. Some are sounds from my Korg O1W.
I posted to my Soundcloud page which I had been using for another songwriting club I've been part of. Sorry if it was confusing. The only song from FAWM is the most recent one.

  • @colgoo Feb 3

Just thought Iโ€™d let you know that my collaboration with @jorh for โ€œThrowing Bombs Behind Enemy Linesโ€ is up, if youโ€™d like a listen.

  • @gm7  Feb 3

    Thx...love the Amaj7 Dmaj7...good ear you have

  • @helenseviltwin  Feb 3

I know, mate. Just sometimes things escalate, so easier to lock a thread if there's that potential and everything that needed saying has been said. Wasn't a judgement on you.

  • @johnstaples  Feb 3

Since your thread was closed I'm gonna leave ya a comment here! ๐Ÿ˜ First, I'm glad you removed the FAWMer's ID. But you ain't wrong in the feeling that multiple song postings at once are problematic for both the individual posting and others posting during that time! I have long felt the website should be modified to prevent this in the same way it stops us from posting comments multiple times in quick succession.

  • @wacha  Feb 3

Thank you for your kind words on "Take a Little Time", I've actually used the ukulele to add to a song where I had wanted mandolin and fir the part I had in my head very nicely.

  • @berni1954  Feb 2

Glad you liked my "Armstrong Street" song. I guess loads of us here can identify with the failed band / fame story line.

  • @psyt Feb 2

Hello again Tim, and thanks for the comment. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @ryako  Feb 2

Thanks for the comment on Angelspeak. The vocal style is definitely mellower than before and I left them less processed than usual because I felt like it fit better.

  • @jharms  Feb 2

Thanks for taking the time to comment - on a track that may be outside the norm here ๐Ÿ˜€ Sorry if it was a rude awakening, ha!

  • @headfirstonly  Feb 2

Good grief, that's spooky (although to be fair, the Bergerac theme is basically The Police's "Walking on the Moon" with added trumpets and an accordion). Am I turning into John Nettles?

  • @quork  Feb 2

Re. Embedded player, thanks, Iโ€™ll check it out

  • @mdavisto  Feb 2

Peanut butter is permissible when mixed with honey.

Toast is sadly not allowed on keto. Woe is me.

  • @frozenlonesome  Feb 2

Thanks for listening and for your kind comments on Living Stereo! Glad you liked the track!

  • @postcardhelicopters  Feb 2

Please don't feel bad for skipping my over-long essay - it was more for my own sake and was a convenient place to drop it so I can archive it at the end of the month.

And, to answer your question, yep! Lyrics are placeholders until I come up with something better. Thanks for taking it out for a spin!
