Ready for my 3rd FAWM!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Got my first guitar at age 15, never looked back (but may have left it in the closet for a few years along the way).
5 self-released CDs of various styles of music. Now I just call it 'electric-acoustic folk-rock' when people ask what genre.

Play guitar, uke, keyboards, bass, Merlin (ask!), and whatever instruments I can fake things on (mandolin, harmonica, violin). I use Reaper for recording (willing to do collaborations).

Along with my collaborator and friend @tamsnumber4 I run a monthly songwriter meeting, Songwriters of New Hampshire Group (SONG) where we discuss songwriting and bring songs for suggestions and critiques in a casual songwriter circle format. Been doing this via Zoom since last March.

    Hey Mike!
I just skipped through my comments and read that you wanted to listen to some of the final versions. We won't make it until the FAWM shutdown. In case you're still interested, I'll upload these onto Soundcloud as soon as they're finished - or bandcamp as a whole album someday soon. Some tracks may take months.
Thanks for your comments and support - Hope to see you next year 😀

  • @kenmattsson  7 weeks

Thanks for your support for the Mass FAWM Over party. Let me know when your open mikes are!

    Stay safe

Great Big Sea...they are a great "musical influence" to have....cool
Didn't think too many Americans knew of them. i am guessing you either saw them on tour or you have been to Newfoundland (yes)? Either way they are a great band! Glad you like them.
They live about about 15 mins away from my home.

  • @musicsongwriter  Mar 6

Hello Mike, you are very welcome. Thank you so much for your warm comment on my collaboration with Chris on Wait for Tomorrow.

Thanks for listening to my songs "I Am Frankenstein", "One Kiss", "Lights at Sea", "Start Walking in Your Dreams", "Blue Snow' and "Amelia" and my collab songs "I Can't Wait" with kristi and "Until You" with cindyrella, I appreciate it!!

  • @kathym  Mar 4

I'm finally catching up on all of the overdue thank you notes for having stopped to consider my song Sweet Louise. I take all comments to heart and truly appreciate everyone's comments. All the love.

  • @fearlessflight2014  Mar 2

Thanks for visiting my songs and your comments. I really appreciate you taking the time!

  • @scubed  Mar 2

Thanks very much for your comment on “Love Lives Here” and congrats on such a successful FAWM! I’ve really enjoyed the songs of yours I’ve heard so far and look forward to listening to more of them in the coming days.

  • @lyricslinger  Mar 2

@mikeb Thanks for your comment on 'You Could Be My Harry Potter'. Yes, definitely a work-in-progress. I ran out of time before March arrived to fully explore it but hopefully one I will go back to!

  • @singn4supr Mar 1

@mikeb thanks so much for taking the time to comment on This Will Work, especially so close to the end. Your words of support along the way and your collaboration on Jane and John Doe pushed me to reach 14. Congrats on your 20!

  • @roblincoln  Mar 1

@Mikeb. Thanks for your comment on my song Heatherton Square. As for your question--"Nick Drake tuning" is CGCFCE, though he used more than one alternate tunings, that is the one he is most associated with. I used it in about a haalf dozen songs this FAWM.

  • @richaaaay  Feb 28

Thanks for listening @mikeb. I just stumbled onto FAWM part way through the month. I had no idea what I was getting into but this has been such an incredibly positive experience. Wish I knew about it sooner but all is good. Would love to be kept in the loop about local happenings. I live in the upper valley about a mile from the Vermont border.

  • @nadine Feb 28

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! We will let you know when "Dont tell me I ot hurts" will be finished. It may take some time.

  • @onewholovesrock Feb 28

19 songs! Holy shitt Mike. Nice work.

  • @skittycat  Feb 27

Thanks for the comment on Rainbow - its all Viking and Saxon places where I live LOL we're heavy on the archaeology

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 27

Thanks, @mikeb , for listening to My Heart Skips A Beat! It was fun writing a song around a meter change idea. You have 18 songs now, congratulations!

  • @berni1954  Feb 26

Thanks for your comment on "The Faerie Ring". I'd certainly like to perform a few songs at Renn Fayre. I used to perform at the Albion Fayres of the late 70s early 80s. Ah, those were the days.

  • @jeff9  Feb 26

    Thanks, Mike.

  • @scubed  Feb 26

Thanks so much for your comment on my collab with Cindy! 😊

  • @oswlek Feb 26

Thanks for the kind words on "Vista", Mike. And you are very welcome regarding "Timeless", it's a terrific song.

  • @electrocelte  Feb 26

Thanks for listening to Pretty Placebo, @mikeb ...LOVE your suggestion!

  • @jeff9  Feb 24

Much obliged for the kind words, Mike. And hearty congrats on already running through the FAWM finish line tape. I’m envious at your prolific output of quality material!

  • @tukayandryan  Feb 23

Thanks for listening to 'Passage of Time'. Not an original idea to write from the perspective of nature but enjoyed doing it! 😀Glad you enjoyed the harmonies. We love doing them 😊

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 23

Thanks for listening to The Twelve Bar Blues, @mikeb ! You are absolutely right, there are definitely some acceptable bars nowadays. My experience has been quite mixed. lol

  • @oswlek Feb 22

Thanks for your comment on "Miracle", Mike. Glad to hear it worked for you. 😀

  • @crisp1  Feb 22

I hadn't thought enough about how the music would sound, but now I'm hearing it all Renn Faire-y if I re-read it!

  • @daveyboy103  Feb 22

Lyrics to Ghosts posted now. 😀

  • @crisp1  Feb 22

Mike, thanks for your comments on Losing My Head! I wonder when those fairs will be allowed to re-open!

  • @quork  Feb 22

Thanks for listening. Agreed about the mando, but I was determined to throw it on, After 7 tracks I wasn’t about to learn and add some fills throughout, so stuck with chords and the solo at the end.

  • @katestantonsings Feb 19

Thank you for commenting on my song, "Making Waves". I really appreciate it, Mike!

  • @hornesgiftshop  Feb 19

Thanks for the comment Mike. Watch this space for the next shed.

  • @grenzgaengerin Feb 19

Thank you very much for comment on "Völva" . I'm glad you liked it and inspired you

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 18

Thanks, @mikeb ! Bliss, Nothing But Bliss was a true labor of love.

  • @berni1954  Feb 16

Glad you liked "Sailing Away" - Yes, in this case the opening four chord changes were gifted to me from a "Chord Sequence Generator" on a web site. I don't often work that way. I usually come up with lyrics first and a vague idea of a melody and then work on that later. But I loved that GMaj7 and thought "Hey! I can use this!".

  • @jeff9  Feb 16

Thanks much, Mike, for the "Just Words" like.

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 14

Thanks, @mikeb ! You inspired me to give the do re me challenge a try☺️

  • @berni1954  Feb 13

Hi Mike, thanks for the heads up on "Tik-Tok shanties". I must admit I have only a vague idea what Tik-Tok involves. But if they're promoting shanties on it, I'm all for it! 😁

  • @serene123  Feb 13

Thank you Mike for your kind words on the toilet window song 🤣. Actually it was someone else's story that I stole to put in a song! According to said person when she came out the guy had already left so he must have been told. She got to drink her cocktail that she'd ordered before running. Kind of feel sorry for the guy. Maybe he deserves a song too

  • @syonip Feb 13

Thanks Mike for comments on "The Mandalorian". I added the lyrics 😀

  • @captainillegible  Feb 13

Thanks @mikeb ... of course it is!

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 12

Thanks for listening to def# jam, @mikeb ! A sound experiment for me☺️

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 12

Thanks, @mikeb for listening to My Neighbor, Conway! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  • @colgoo Feb 12

After I finish this Fearless chain of songs, I will be noticeably slowing down..l tend to do most of my writing before Valentine’s Day....that’s just the pace that has worked best for me in the past six FAWMs. Next week is a school vacation week, so I am pretty busy with family time and household projects. You’ll be passing me by soon...

  • @papaooo Feb 12

Thanks! Maybe by Rocktober I'll be able to figure out recording.

  • @natalieedelson  Feb 12

Thanks for your kind words on sirensong - looking forward to listening to yours.

  • @dulcimeric Feb 12

never played a Seagull Merlin, but those little strum stick types are fun for simple picking!
I do a lot of chording and not as much traditional-style music, so the 6-string dulcimer from Blue Lion instruments is my tried and true choice

  • @oswlek Feb 11

Thanks for the kind words on "Candles" and "Just One", Mike. I always appreciate you stopping by. 😀

  • @atitlan  Feb 11

Thanks for commenting on 'A Pinch of Salt' - it was written with Boris Johnson in mind, but I wanted it to work on a personal relationship 'well, you should have known better' level, too, should the listener interpret it that way.

  • @daveyboy103  Feb 11

End of Days is really just a sketch currently but I agree it needs another verse. Where do you go after the end of days though?

  • @zecoop  Feb 11

By the way, the high end on that song was likely the 12 string. The six string on the left side wasn't nearly as bright. And the mic does need standard phantom. No idea what the other voltage was about, haha Some of these models use batteries instead of phantom. There are definitely different versions out there.

  • @zecoop  Feb 11

Yeah I am sure there could be some EQ bumps with that mic, but it also is a 1 minute mix so I just threw on my regular presets without much thought. I was pretty happy with how things sounded, though! Can't beat $20 for a solid metal large condenser. I got it mostly to possibly mod the capsule. 😀

  • @crisp1  Feb 10

You're right about Pardon My Love in a way. I banged that out faster than I could give it a proper thinking through, but I was imagining the guy as sincerely repentant and wanting her back yet knowing he's a congenital shmuck and he'd burned through all her tolerance. Thanks for giving it a read.

  • @onewholovesrock Feb 10

Thanks for listening to my crap song Mike. Yes you’re definitely right! Gotta write plenty of crap to hopefully write something worthwhile. I guess its just kinda hard to share something that I’m not happy with. But it does add to the FAWM count.

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 10

Thanks for listening to 23andThee, @mikeb ! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  • @dantanz1 Feb 9

Not sure the year of the tele. I have a feeling it is a "parts" guitar. Another blues legend of the telecaster was Muddy Waters. Danny Gatton is also worth looking into

  • @pvk2020  Feb 9

    Thanks for listening. Good songs.

  • @mmmmarcus Feb 8

Thanks a lot for the comment on You Fucked Me Up! Glad to hear you liked it!

  • @scubed  Feb 8

I appreciate the comment on “These Wide Open Spaces”!

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 8

    Ha! @mikeb I like ironing, but...😉

  • @the3queens  Feb 8

Thanks! I had t- shirt made and for some reason thought we'd be over quarantine by now and able to resume tour. Wishful thinking.

  • @geoff61 Feb 8

I like where this rock opera theme is going, do you have a storyline all in place?

  • @aesthetic72  Feb 8

Thanks for the listening and for the comment on Don't Hide

  • @toms  Feb 8

All I ever wanted to be was a Dead Boy. 😀 Thank you for the kind comment!

  • @andrewjtaylor  Feb 7

Awesome! That's precisely what I think the song needed. The secret song-thoughts of a people in hiding.

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 7

Thanks for listening to and commenting on Louise.

  • @scubed  Feb 6

Thanks so much for your comment! I think it’s actually in 12/8. It did start out as a waltz; I came up some music before writing any words. I was too distracted by deadlines to notice that by the time I’d recorded It I’d completely blown the title! 😆

  • @dragondreams  Feb 6

    Thanks again, Mike. 😀
The amp is one of my own builds. It's a four watt, all valve beast that makes VERY large noises at reasonable volumes. 😉
I needed to blow some cobwebs away this evening. My arthritis eased enough to play that one without embarrassing myself too badly. 😀

  • @singn4supr Feb 6

@mikeb thanks for commenting on my song, Watch Your Mouth! It's great when people can relate to my lyrics, especially if the subject isn't a new one.

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 6

Thanks @mikeb for listening to the song about my Dad❤️

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 6

Thanks, @mikeb ! Yes, Acapella app, an iPhone and earbuds.

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 6

Ha! @mikeb , thanks for the listen! This is my first FAWM, third tune. I loved your comment☺️

  • @dragondreams  Feb 5

Mike, serious thanks for inflicting so many of my tunes on yourself!

  • @colgoo Feb 5

Thanks for the awesome feedback on “Rough Year”. Great minds think alike....your feedback confirmed where I think the final product is heading!

  • @headfirstonly  Feb 5

Hi Mike - thanks for the kid words. The Noire piano is a Kontakt instrument; the strings are Spitfire Audio's "Intimate Strings" from their "Essentials" series. Ridiculously good value at $29 - I've used it a lot. The vibes are a stock instrument in Abelton. The pad in the bridge is "Textural pads: cyclosa" from Spitfire Audio's free LABS instruments (a must have - seriously, get them all), and the pad right at the end is Arturia's Jupiter-8 emulation from the V Collection.

  • @cblack Feb 5

I know I *could* get more than $20... But honestly, I'm not in it for the money. I'm in it for the love.

    (And crack.) 😝

  • @mccannrs Feb 4

Thanks for the comment on my song! I'm glad you liked the mix, I tried my best!

  • @scubed  Feb 4

Thanks, Mike! That’s very high praise.

  • @kristi  Feb 4

Hi. Thanks for you nice words on my lyric Take a Breath or Two. Another Fawmer surprised me w/a demo on that. If you are inclined to do a male version you could, or let me know if something else I post interests you!

  • @klaus Feb 4

Hi Mike. Thanks for listening to my first song. Have a great Fawm.

  • @geoff61 Feb 4

Thanks Mike, interested to see what you come up with. Geoff

  • @majordanby  Feb 4

Thank for listening. There a few stolen lines, slightly rearranged to fit. I found Bradbury’s book very lyrical, especially. At the beginning. Lots of poetry.

  • @panch  Feb 4

Hi Mike, thanks for your comments and alerting me to the problem with the start of the song. That's a schoolboy error that I'll fix.
    Cheers

  • @scubed  Feb 4

Thanks for the comment on my trippy little skirmish piece!

  • @kathym  Feb 4

Many thanks for the comments on Sweet Louise. I'm trying to work through the recording issues. I loaded a new version of Audacity hoping the settings would set to a good default that would work, hoping it's not a problem with the computer.

  • @mikegtz  Feb 4

HI there MIke and thanks for the nice words on Head Full. You are off to a quick start!

  • @elenaduff Feb 3

thanks Mike for commenting on my seashanty, didn't realise you didn't see coments when tagged under it!

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 3

Hey Mike- thanks for your comments on my Donald song!

  • @jyllian Feb 2

Hi Mike - of course I will be fawming.

  • @willowjean  Feb 2

Thank you for the kind words on "Wait out the Weather"! We also have freshly fallen snow here in PA. Got at least 2 feet over the past few days!

  • @waitingforwinry Feb 2

Hey you're welcome, and thanks for the comment love on both my songs so far! Really asppreciate you taking the time 😀

  • @berni1954  Feb 2

Thanks for your comment on my collab with Doug (Just One).

  • @the3queens  Feb 2

No I'm thinking we'll be zooming FAWMSTOCK again this year.

  • @haim  Feb 2

Thanks for your comment on my song "Where You Belong".. it touched me. Yeah.. tough times to make music and to try to become full time musician... It's gonna be ok though. Gotta stay optimistic!

  • @scubed  Feb 2

Thanks for your lovely comment on “Fall Gently”!

  • @mccannrs Feb 1

Thanks for the great comment on my song! Cheers!

  • @dragondreams  Feb 1

    Aww. Thanks Mike! 😀
How do I play that fast? Half a century of practise. 😉

  • @gwyn1234  Feb 1

Thanks for the welcome MIke...have a good FAWM yourself!

  • @geoff61 Feb 1

    thanks Mike 😀

  • @thefinalfrontier  Feb 1

Thanks for listening! I'm not really sure where the rest of the story's going, but it'll end up somewhere I'm sure.
