she/her (in flux)

Pandemic-grounded, touring musician embracing her introvert life for a while.
This is my 12th FAWM.

Just got my studio set up and all my gear updated for the first time since I started touring, so lots to learn as I start recording again.

Released 2 albums in 2020:
*Keep Left at the Fork
*the StorySinger set: Live in Germany
*On Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/35h7zpMJNbiWRfahzle2hh

Last year I wrote a song a week until my mom died in October. Started writing a song a week again in January. Taking the year as it comes. Grief plays its own songs in its own time.

Finished 14 songs in 28 days, all produced in the studio. Collaborated with new and old friends. Wrote songs to meet challenges and fulfill commitments.

Made it to 100 comments! Heard folks I've never heard before, discovered new favourites. Encouraged #metoo songwriters.

This FAWM I went all in. I remembered and was reminded why I love my job and why I do this challenge every year. It's a privilege to be part of this community.

March 5th - released a 5-track demo EP of FAWM collaborations with @dasbinky @robynmackenzie @kristian and @zecoop

I'm still catching up on sending thank you notes for your having stopped by my song "When it Snows". I am so touched by the support and comments this song has gotten. I played this at a zoom open mic even though it's not quite polished and it was well received. I will be back in touch if I get the demo up in case anyone is around to listen. Your time and support mean so much to me and I really appreciate your having taken time for me. Leslie ... so much fawm, so little time!

  • @ekunyi  Mar 5

Just saw it now! Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, and thank you for thinking of me regardless of however it works out. <3

Hi Leslie! I wondered if you might be interested in pairing up on something? I don't have any brilliant ideas at the moment, but I'm happy to contribute many excess layers of vocals if you have a need!

  • @rwhosings  Feb 8

You comments mean the world. Thank you for listening! I started playing ukulele 3-ish years ago because they wanted me to teach it at school. I'm starting to feel more confident performing on it. Mine is a tenor Kala.

  • @sunnymae  Feb 8

Leslie, thanks for your feedback on Season of Sorrow! I'm glad you liked what I came up with after futzing with sample sounds, synth bass and all that jazz. Thanks for the listen! πŸ˜€

  • @johncrossman  Jan 28

I know! Don't ask me anything about the song, it might (might!) be buried in my subconscious somewhere. But 2 people in a room who just met, overthinking every little bit, that's actually a fond memory. And of course I'm really glad Binky and I made the trip for the inaugural fawmstock/weird sleepover. πŸ˜€

  • @alyxanderjames  Jan 28

  • @harperjen  Jan 5

Leslie, I do indeed plan to attempt FAWM this year! I need the goalsβ€”I have felt stagnant, musically, for the last two years. Tried a couple of different things to break out of it, but this year, I think I’ve found the combo: Soulwriters2 (1 song a month, based on a prompt), FAWM, and re-enrolling in MHTP (Music for Healing and Transition Program: therapeutic music in hospital/hospice settings). And having conquered my mental block in setting up Bandcamp, my plan is to post the things I compose/arrange/record there to help buy the books I need for MHTP. πŸ˜€. Hoping for a productive yearβ€”I’m not good at maintaining intrinsic motivation, especially when also juggling work things and family things, so having the external deadlines will help keep me on track!
