Influences:   I have no idea anymore. Jangly melancholy pop, maybe. Earnest Americana? Indie folk? Punk? Sarah McLachlan? Whatever. It's hard to tell. And They Might Be Giants.

2021: Back for FAWM number 13, give or take. Not sure what this year will bring, no plans beyond a vague commitment to try something new and write a bunch of songs.

My guiding ethos for this FAWM: "If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs."

In 2020 I put out a solo album made up entirely of FAWM songs from many years of writing, check it out here:.

And I also remixed and remastered an old 2012 EP:

I've been doing this since 2009*, and hit my 14 for 6 years running. I took 2015 off (minus one song), started 2016 with good intentions but was short circuited, spent 2017 on a solo project (except for one song), and took 2018 off (just one song). 2019 and 2020 were back in the saddle with collab-heavy FAWMs. So 2021 is my 13th-ish outing. Or 10th in 13 years if you're being technical. Anyway, it's a lot.

* I wrote and played the music for a tune on the Auto Pseudo Mondo CD in 2008 (with @mixtapesandmeltdowns, but just as a one-off. I wasn't really FAWM-aware at the time.

Yes.....send us all the money! We will feed you with more vampire music. Thanks for the listen!

  • @nancyrost  Mar 1

I like this band, too. It's giving me energy!

  • @nadine Feb 26

Thanks for your comment on Pyromancer. Writing this song was fun! Never tried out Metal before (though I listen to it for half of my life!) and I did not repent it! Especially when Jordans vocal came an nailed that sound! While writing I just imagined going into a medieval metal festival having some tasty mead. Maybe I've played too much dnd the past months...
This bagpipe thingy should be a hurdy gurdy. It was inside a VST sample library and instantly reminded me on that day where I played a real one. This instrument is soooo cool! But so complicated to tune and string.

  • @nancyrost  Feb 21

Just sent you a lyric doc ....

  • @cowex  Feb 18

It was so good. Personally, I know a song's worth posting if I can listen to it and sincerely ask myself "what the hell was that?". It fits.

  • @sapient  Feb 15

Arabian scales? Hmmm. Could be. I do like the harmonic minor, but it usually happens by accident πŸ˜‰

  • @debs  Feb 8

OMG your photo! Hello again, my friend!

  • @bandybum Feb 8

"Thanks for the comment on Hide and Found, and you get serious points for pulling The Sundays out of the arrangement. There were a few production decisions and chord choices that were explicit nods to their work. I've never been sure how much of a footprint they left in other people's musical memory. Rock on! πŸ˜€"

Ah lovely - that made my day!

If you're still looking for collabs perhaps we could give it a whirl? πŸ˜€

Let me know if you think we might be a good fit...

  • @crutherford  Feb 6

over the moon that someone named @dasbinky dug the song i wrote called binky binky. πŸ˜€

  • @rshakesp  Feb 6

I heard this one and in my view it gives Fingertips from Apollo 18 a run for its money and I thought of you..

  • @kahlo2013 Feb 5

You are on a roll! I just started today and clearly I have some listening to do!

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 5

Sure wish we could have had FAWMstock last summer. What a different year...but here we are again

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 5

Thanks for your comments on The Prince!

  • @bitshred  Feb 5

Oh, thanks for the listen John! Appreciate yah. Hope all is well during the craziness. Did you ever try a DI box? I'm running 2 of them now, for bass and my Iridium . Made a noticeable difference to me, unless I'm not using the interface correctly or something.

  • @johncrossman  Feb 4

Some nights, I exist only in print.

Earlier today I was thinking I should come over here and say more stuff. More... stuff. Does that qualify as a dad joke?

  • @dragondreams  Feb 4

You are very kind Lord DasBinky. Thank you. πŸ˜€

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 3

Hey John, I appreciate the listen☺️ 2 down, 12 to go...

  • @lizbrinker  Feb 3

    Thanks for the guidance, @dasbinky ! I am a total newbieπŸ˜‚

  • @dragondreams  Feb 3

I need a bigger bathroom for the snare reverb! 😁
Many thanks for the listen and the great comment! πŸ˜€

  • @bethkille  Feb 3

Hello my long lost friend! Excited to hear your fawm creations!!!

  • @oddbod  Feb 3

I made an error of judgement, realized the error of my ways and corrected it. No need to get the pitchforks out.
    Have a good FAWM.

  • @owl  Feb 2

Happy FAWM to you! I'm still frantically trying to get something written before coming around to comment so I'll be back later πŸ˜€

    Evil Dead the musical

Yasssssss. πŸ˜‚ I myself am also among the lucky to have seen the musical live. I went with a girlfriend at the time who had not seen the movie. And who was NOT a fan of horror. I had to promise her over and over that we were in for laughs and she should not expect to piss her pants. In her defense although of course the musical was hilarious they did a very good job with lighting and sound effects to keep you on the edge of your seat for fear factor. I loved it. Specifically the choose your own scare style ending. Went up on stage and held the chainsaw and took a picture with the cast. A great night all and all.

  • @steventylerpjs  Jan 30

Hey pal. I enjoy your guiding ethos for this year. I can't wait to hear what comes form that.

  • @gslade Jan 29

    Let's rock

  • @seemanski  Jan 29

I got into synthwave massively over the past couple of years and their album Playback is an album I always find myself going back to. Still trying to crack the style myself.

  • @ampersandman  Jan 29

Yeah, right? I happily admit they've grown on me already in the 6 weeks they are here.

  • @andygetch  Jan 29

TBH I know very little about musicals aside from Stephen Sondheim and rock albums.

  • @leslie  Jan 29

Your photo is timeless! Be the awesome you are, and welcome back. πŸ˜€

  • @cts  Jan 28

Thanks man - so many that I’ve been watching as well. Finished High Society yesterday.

  • @hbusse  Jan 28

Hi Binky! Thanks for the welcome, glad to be back taking part again this year. Hope you’re well!

  • @carleybaer  Jan 26

Hi! Your album art/profile pic is epic. Happy FAWMing!

  • @ericdistad  Jan 25

Will there be more rock? Will grooves of deep hookiness be foisted on an unwitting public? Will dasbinky bring the musical heat?

    *shakes magic 8 ball*

    --Signs point to Yes--

Great to see you back! I'm looking forward to more tunes from you.
    Have a great FAWM

P.S. I'm hoping we can sneak in a collab again this year! πŸ˜€

  • @standup  Jan 24

Happy FAWM 2021, look forward to hearing what you’re up to

  • @cts  Jan 20

*CTS tosses up the peace sign* - what's happenin' brochacho?

  • @kristian  Jan 20

Thanks for the mighty laugh friend! It kinda made sense in some parts.. like the stuff about food.

"I will hit you for guitar" 😁

  • @sapient  Jan 19

Flute and mellotron. You heard it hear first...

  • @chasingandromeda  Jan 19

Welcome back. Hope the muse speaks volumes to you this FAWM.

  • @tcelliott  Jan 18

Das. Das ist. Das ist das Binky. Good to see you around, John.

  • @johncrossman  Jan 18

All of my songs this year will be variations on that generation-defining, yet underappreciated band, Baha Men. Maybe if you ask, I'll let you collaborate on one.

  • @andygetch  Jan 15

Hey, it was great to virtually meet you at FAWMstock, looking forward to hearing your stuff!
