Flawed History – February 2, 2018
"That was the day I fell from grace."
You say, “hell, it was a long long long way for me.”
But I keep my wings, hanging on the rack
There might be a day I need to put them back on
I keep them pressed, ironed and clean
The feathers straightened with just enough sheen
I’ll never be the angel that you need
I’ll never be as perfect as you want me to be
I keep polaroids on the wall
To remind me of life before my fall
The photos aren’t clear enough to show the flaws
So, it is easy to believe, we were perfect after all
I said, “Look, recollection is flawed history.”
"Clearly, there is something you need to see"
We set fire to your angel wings
Threw away the polaroids, time to start clean
I could never be the angel that you needed
I could never be as perfect as you wanted me to be
I believed so long that I fell from grace
Recollection is flawed history
